Pity system (guarantee mechanics)

A quick reference for the guarantee rules that apply to every banner on this page — the full breakdown with a working calculator lives on the dedicated Pity page.

  • Character / Standard / Chronicled / Beginners' banners — Soft Pity starts at pull 74 (5★ odds spike sharply), Hard Pity guarantees a 5★ by pull 90 at the latest.
  • Weapon banner — Soft Pity around pull 63 (our records show some sources citing 63-65, not settled on one exact figure), Hard Pity guaranteed at pull 80 — plus the Epitomized Path mechanic, where you pre-select 1 of the 2 featured weapons.
  • 4★ items (every banner) — Runs on its own separate counter from the 5★ one: at least one 4★ is guaranteed within a maximum of 10 consecutive pulls.
How do the 50/50 system and Capturing Radiance work?

On the Character banner, every 5★ drop has a 50% chance of being the currently featured character, with the other 50% falling to a random Standard 5★ (called losing the 50/50). With the Capturing Radiance mechanic: if you lose the first 50/50, your odds on the next one rise to roughly 55% instead of staying at 50%; lose that one too and the 3rd 5★ pull is guaranteed to be the featured character, no longer left to chance.

Does each banner type share a counter or keep its own?

Each type keeps its own independent counter, NOT shared across types: Character, Weapon, Standard, and the Chronicled/Lightrace pair (which share ONLY with each other, separate from the other three) — see the Two Special Wish Types block above for details. The Beginners' banner stands entirely apart, not counted toward any other pity.

Does pity reset when the banner changes?

No, as long as the new banner is the SAME TYPE as the old one (e.g. Character A switching to Character B is still a Character banner) — your accumulated pulls carry over and never reset except when you actually land a 5★.

See how Chronicled & Lightrace share their counter in the block above ↑

Permanent banners

These two banners NEVER close — no need to time your pulls, they're always available.

Wanderlust Invocation (Standard Wish)

The Standard banner, pulled with Acquaint Fate. There is no 50/50 mechanic since nothing here is rate-boosted — every 5★/4★ in the standard pool has an equal chance. Its pity counter is completely separate from the limited Character/Weapon banners.

The following 5★ characters have never appeared in a single rate-up banner in our recorded history, so they're always pullable here (5 characters):

Beginners' Wish

Only shown to new accounts, at a discounted price, and guarantees a fixed 4★ character right at the 10th pull — no luck involved. The exact guaranteed character can vary over time; our data can't confirm the current one, so it isn't named here — check in-game before pulling.

When is it worth pulling here?

Once your main team is set, or when you have no clear target on the limited banners — pulling on Wanderlust Invocation carries no 50/50 risk, so you're guaranteed what you're after once you reach the pity threshold, making it a solid way to round out a support roster instead of letting Primogems sit idle.

Two special Wish types

Beyond the familiar Character/Weapon banners, Genshin Impact has two lesser-known Wish types with their own counting rules.

Chronicled Wish
A rotating banner that bundles multiple characters and/or weapons that were previously limited into a single run, giving newer or returning players a chance at older characters without waiting for their original banner to come back.
Lightrace Wish
Another special Wish type that similarly bundles characters/weapons in batches like Chronicled Wish, but runs as its own distinctly-named banner with its own schedule.
The most important part: they SHARE one counter

Chronicled Wish and Lightrace Wish SHARE a single pity counter between them (pulling on one still counts toward the other) — but that shared counter is entirely SEPARATE from the Character/Weapon/Standard counters. Pulling here doesn't spend or add to the pity of whatever limited banner is running alongside it.

Our own banner history hasn't recorded any specific Chronicled/Lightrace run yet (only Character and Weapon banner data exists so far) — a list will appear here as soon as that data is added, rather than guessing ahead of time.

Who hasn't come back in a while

Ranked by days since each limited 5★ character was last rate-boosted, recalculated every time you load this page — the day count never goes stale.

Never had their own banner

This group is excluded from the ranking above because they've never had a single rate-up run — they're either permanently available on the Standard banner, or only ever obtainable through gifts/special events rather than Wishing.

Quick guide

This page shows the currently active banners in real time, along with how the wish (gacha) system works and how to plan your Primogems as a free-to-play player. Wishing unlocks at Adventure Rank 5; character/weapon banners use Intertwined Fate, the standard banner uses Acquaint Fate. Each wish costs 160 Primogems (or 1 Fate).

Pity & the 50/50 system

On a limited character banner:

  • Soft pity starts around wish 74 — the 5★ rate spikes sharply.
  • Hard pity: by wish 90 at the latest, a 5★ is guaranteed.
  • 50/50: the first 5★ has a 50% chance to be the featured character. If you "lose" (get a standard character), your next 5★ is guaranteed featured.
  • So the worst case needs up to ~180 wishes to be certain of the featured character.
  • 4★: at least one 4★ is guaranteed every 10 wishes.

Cost & free-to-play Primogem sources

Each wish = 160 Primogems, so a 10-pull = 1,600. Free players gather Primogems from: daily commissions, events, the Spiral Abyss, maintenance rewards, and world chests. A safe estimate per patch (~6 weeks) is around 60–80 wishes if you keep up with commissions and events; buying the Welkin Moon adds a meaningful daily amount. Save up before your desired banner rather than pulling piecemeal.

Who should you prioritise?

Prioritise the main DPS you will actually use, then the key supports for that team. If you have no clear target, save your Primogems: banners always rotate, and a strong account needs complete teams more than scattered single 5★s. Check the tier list and team pages to see who is worth investing in this patch.

FAQ

How many wishes guarantee the featured character?

Up to 180 wishes: 90 guarantees a 5★; if you lose the 50/50, the next 90 guarantee the featured character. In practice the average is much lower thanks to soft pity from ~74.

When do banners change?

Each patch (~6 weeks) usually has 2 phases of character banners, each about 3 weeks. This page auto-updates the active banners and counts down the time remaining.

Should I pull the weapon banner?

The weapon banner has its own pity and a path-selection mechanic (Epitomized Path) but is generally less consistent than the character banner. Only pull it once you have a clear main DPS and want to maximise damage; budget players are usually fine with craftable/standard weapons.
