What main stat to run, by role

Getting the main stat on the right slot is the baseline — substats aimed the right direction decide your real power. The table below is a default framework by role, useful for a quick lookup before you know a specific character's kit.
BodyFeetPlanar SphereLink RopeSub-stat priority
Main DPSCRIT Rate or CRIT DMGATK% or SPDthe character's own Elemental DMG BoostATK% (or Break Effect for a break-focused kit)CRIT comes first — aim for roughly a 1:2 ratio of CRIT Rate to CRIT DMG — then ATK%, then SPD.
HealerHP% or Outgoing Healing BoostHP%HP%Energy Regeneration Rate or HP%HP% first, then SPD — healing output scales off the target's Max HP.
Tank / ShielderDEF% or Effect Hit RateDEF% or SPDDEF%DEF% or Energy Regeneration RateDEF% first, then Effect Hit Rate, then SPD.
SupportNo safe default — depends on the character's kit, check that character's pageSPD, almost always correctNo safe default — depends on the character's kit, check that character's pageEnergy Regeneration RateSPD first; add Effect Hit Rate if the character applies debuffs.

This is a default framework, not a hard rule. Some characters break from it because of their own kit — for example a support that needs CRIT DMG or Break Effect instead of Energy Regeneration Rate. Always check that character's page before locking in a set.

Basic rules you need before picking Relics

  • Head always rolls flat HP, Hands always roll flat ATK — no need to check the main stat on these two, just look at the substats.
  • Only Feet can roll SPD as a main stat; only the Link Rope can roll Energy Regeneration Rate as a main stat.
  • A substat never duplicates that piece's own main stat, and the four substats never duplicate each other.
  • Each piece caps at 4 substats. Every +3 upgrade grants one roll — either unlocking a new substat line or boosting an existing one at random.
  • Enhancement cap by rarity: 2-star +6, 3-star +9, 4-star +12, 5-star +15. Starting substat count: 3-star 1–2 lines, 4-star 2–3 lines, 5-star 3–4 lines.
  • The main stat is NOT random — at the level cap it's always the exact same fixed number. Only substats roll randomly.
  • Quick filter trick: enhance to +9 and you already see enough substat quality to decide keep-or-salvage — don't burn all your resources to +15 before judging.

Should you keep or salvage this piece?

  • Wrong main stat for the slot (e.g. an HP% Sphere on a Lightning DPS) → salvage it right away, don't get attached.
  • Right main stat but the 4 substats don't have even one line of CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG / SPD (for a DPS role) → low value, salvage first.
  • Right main stat plus at least 2 substats you actually need from the start → enhance to +9 and reassess — this piece is worth investing in.

Where can you get Relics?

Relics unlock during the Belobog story arc. To target the exact set and slot you need instead of farming blind, use the Omni-Synthesizer: it runs on Relic Remains, which you get by salvaging Relics you don't use. The machine unlocks from Equilibrium Level 3 onward.

Every piece & its lore

Official in-game name, description and story of each piece — tap to expand
Passerby's Rejuvenated Wooden HairstickHead

A withered twig that was used as a hairstick, with new flower buds sprouting on the end. Now, the past is long gone, and the stick inlaid with parcel-gilt flower buds commemorates the beginning of a new life.

A distant and yet familiar feeling of nervousness wrapped around him, sharp and distinct with phantom pain, as the unnamed woke from his long and deep slumber. His past was shattered into razor-edged shards, and he forgot even his own name.

Wandering aimlessly, he drank melted snow to quench his thirst, hunted wild beasts to fill his stomach, and chopped a withered branch to use as a wooden hair-stick to fasten his flowing hair.

Like the incessantly flowing stream of a mountain spring, his long, black hair never ceased growing. His flesh twitched and throbbed beneath his skin, like river carps flipping and swarming... Fascinating powers ceaselessly reconstructed his body, bringing an everlasting pain of bones and tendons rupturing and healing. As countless phantom agonies and torments tore through his body, his shattered past was also beginning to come together... As he glanced at his own reflection in the water, the story of that tragedy gradually cleared in his mind.

When the face in the reflection was no longer a stranger's, the unnamed suddenly realized the dead branch was sprouting flower buds.

Epiphany struck him like lightning. The curse of immortality still raged on, and the grudge of past misgivings never died out. HE was now the newborn flower on this once-dead branch.
Passerby's Roaming Dragon BracerHands

Bracers made from flowing coral gold and the leather of unknown beasts. Only master artisans from the Vidyadhara dragon race can create this kind of superior armor.

It seems that pairs of objects have telepathic connections with each other. Though the unnamed only had one bracer in his possession, his fingertips could still faintly feel the temperature from the other.

He closed his eyes, trying his best to extract any information about the other bracer from the tenuous connection, be it its location or master.

A slender yet strong hand once wore the other bracer. That owner, whose sharp spear glinted with a cold light and flourished like shooting stars, once sparred with the unnamed. That owner also once shared company and drinks with the unnamed, the two of them simply gazing at the moon with no words exchanged. However, in the end, it was also this person who stubbornly adhered to their plans with the unnamed, turned the beloved into a monstrosity, and pushed all into an abyss of eternal hatred and remorse.

Pairs of objects are destined for an eventual reunion. The long years of grudges and hatred between them should be savored, like ice-cold aged liquor, one slow sip after another until the bottle of resentment is finally empty.

Would the wearer of the other bracer feel the same? The unnamed didn't want to know.
Passerby's Ragged Embroidered CoatBody

An old coat with a ragged hemline. The embroidery has been ruined by blade marks. Flesh heals quickly, but a coat does not, nor does a person's pain.

The unnamed roamed everywhere in his exile like a walking corpse, until a woman in sunglasses and a person wearing colossal armor stood in his way. Before they could extend their invitation, the unnamed had already unsheathed his sword in refusal. After an exchange of blows, the smiling woman offered a deal that the unnamed could not refuse.

The unnamed accepted the deal, obtained a new identity, and went back to the world of civilization and order.

The unnamed was brought into a tailor's shop, where his sizes were measured, and presentable clothes were custom-made... People even dressed his hair, groomed his face, and made him regain his old appearance. In a trance, he began to lose track of time. In hazy memories of the olden days, he finally made up his mind to gift his bosom friend with his hand-made jade flask, only to realize with a shock that the person he longed for was no longer there.

He realized that everything he relied on to walk this earth — this body, this life, this love and hatred, and even this set of clothes — were just loaned items.

He will repay all of them in full, then draw his last breath.
Passerby's Stygian Hiking BootsFeet

A durable pair of boots that have left shoe-prints on many worlds and have witnessed many lethal situations.

The unnamed followed the slave's orders and traveled to the other side of the sky with his new companions. He walked with bewilderment and hatred among countless worlds, often finding himself in grave crises of life and death.

He had long forgotten the joy of creation, lost in his hurries from one battlefield to the next.

In his past battles, he had sustained an innumerable number of sword slashes and cuts. In his past defeats, his body was splintered and smashed into pieces over and over again. His opponent would always end the battle with one finishing move right through his heart. And now, all those masterly sword moves that had induced his numerous scars were forever imprinted in his memory, and his martial prowess was refined in countless lethal encounters. The unnamed wielded his sword and slashed his way through obstacles for his allies. Wherever he fell, he rose right up, over and over again. He seemed to have let go of all his hatred in his dedication to the sword dance.

The slave promised to bring an eternal end and a final funeral to the unnamed's life and to everything he had ever hated. The unnamed nodded, put his sword back in its sheath, then raced to the next world.

If life could be deemed as a continuous journey, then the unnamed wishes to step over the pool of blood made of all whom he deeply resented before reaching his own end.

How to read this relic set page

Cavern Relics have 4 pieces: Head and Hand always carry fixed flat stats (HP and ATK), so only Body and Feet have a random main-stat you actually choose. The 2-piece effect unlocks with 2 out of 4 pieces from the same set; the 4-piece effect is stronger but needs all 4 and usually has its own trigger condition — read the exact text above before committing. Planar Ornaments only have 2 pieces (Planar Sphere + Link Rope) and only ever have one 2-piece effect, there is no 4-piece version.

The two types also differ in where you get them: Cavern Relics drop from the Cavern of Corrosion and cost Trailblaze Power per run; Planar Ornaments come from the Simulated Universe or Divergent Universe, which do NOT cost Trailblaze Power — you trade for them with items or completion rewards instead. A full loadout usually combines one 4-piece Cavern set (or two different Cavern sets at 2 pieces each) with one 2-piece Planar set — go 4-piece when that set gives a large, reliable damage buff, and mix 2+2 when you need to stack several smaller stats (e.g. ATK% from one set plus Elemental DMG% from another).

The "who should use this" list is pulled from cross-sourced build consensus and updates automatically as the meta shifts, it is not hand-picked. See the full set table on the Relics page, or check terms in the HSR Glossary.
