Quick verdict

Only worth leveling if you need a cheap (A-rank) Fire defender for shields or you're running a full Belobog roster. Ben tanks well and packs some surprise damage off his DEF, but he's a narrow support — he only shines in same-faction / mono-Fire teams. Not an investment priority if you already have a more flexible support/defender like Caesar.

Stat targets

DEF is Ben's KING stat: his shields scale off DEF and his ATK also gains +40% of his DEF (counters/EX scale off DEF). Reference Level 60 targets (per mistermenplays/icy-veins): ATK ~2,800+, DEF ~1,800+, HP ~11,000+, Crit Rate 50%+ / Crit DMG 100%+ ONLY if you run M2 for meaningful block counters; at M0-M1 as a pure enabler, drop crit and stack max DEF% + Energy Regen. Main stats: slot 4 DEF% · slot 5 DEF% or Fire DMG · slot 6 DEF% or Energy Regen. Substat priority: DEF% > Energy Regen > Crit Rate/DMG (only with M2) > flat DEF > PEN. Energy Regen matters to spam EX and keep shield uptime high.

Rotation & combos

Ben plays as a quick-swap defender/enabler and rarely stays on-field long. 1) OPEN: hit EX Special to blanket the team with a shield (DEF-scaled) and open the invuln/block window. 2) If an enemy strikes into the block, cash the Block Counter (M2 adds 300% DEF) then swap out immediately. 3) When a partner (Koleda…) is out of energy or about to be hit, use a Defensive Assist to bring Ben in to block → hand the field back to the DPS via Assist Follow-up. 4) Keep shield uptime by returning to fire EX whenever energy allows; Ben spends most of the time off-field as an enabler. 5) ULTIMATE: use it for an extra shield/fire-damage beat or to start a Chain while enemies are dazed.

Mindscapes — how far is worth it?
M1 Situational

When Ben successfully blocks an enemy with his Special / EX Special, that enemy's DMG is reduced by 30% for 15s. Purely defensive; it makes Ben and the team tankier but adds no damage — survivability seasoning only.

M2 Worth it

Ben's biggest jump (Offense Through Defense): Block Counters during his Special/EX Special deal extra DMG equal to 300% of his DEF (per mistermenplays/game8). This is the practical STOP point — it turns a pure shielder into a surprising damage/daze source, where most of Ben's payoff lives; if pulling copies, cap at M2.

M3 Low value

All skills (Basic/Assist/Dodge/Special/Chain) +2 levels. A small flat bump with no gameplay change — low value, just a stepping stone to M4.

M4 Situational

When Ben blocks with the invulnerability of his Special/EX Special, the following counter deals +30% DMG. A small bump that stacks onto M2 but depends on timing the block well — not worth pulling on its own.

M5 Low value

All skills +2 levels again. Still just flat numbers, a bridge to M6 — low value.

M6 Worth it

Wild Spirit: after attacking during EX Special, Daze from Basic / Dash / Dodge Counter +20% for 12s, pushing Ben toward a pseudo-stun role. Very strong for a fire shield-stun playstyle but very niche — whale-only completion; regular players stop at M2.

Pros
  • DEF-scaled team-wide shield plus multiple invuln/block windows while holding EX — one of the highest survivability floors in the game, saving teams in hard content.
  • Grants Crit Rate to same-faction Belobog / same-element Fire allies while shielding (~16% per mistermenplays) — a direct damage boost for Koleda/Soldier 11.
  • Converts DEF into ATK (40% of DEF), giving a surprising slice of damage/daze from block counters — the more DEF, the harder he hits, especially from M2.
  • Very F2P-cheap (A-rank agent) with his own A-rank signature engine (Big Cylinder) — builds a strong fire enabler without spending S-rank pulls.
Cons
  • Narrow support: only shines in same-faction Belobog / same-element Fire teams. Outside that comp, more flexible defenders/supports (Caesar) do the job better.
  • Falls off in high-HP endgame: as enemy HP scales, Ben's small damage share can't keep up and he gets benched in score-chasing runs.
  • Heavy/slow combat feel and reliant on timing blocks precisely; getting meaningful damage requires at least M2, otherwise he's a pure enabler.

Endgame mode fit
Shiyu Defense

Shiyu Defense rewards fast burst inside the stun window, so Ben is mostly a survival enabler for hard floors rather than a primary scorer — good when you want a cheap fire defender for a Belobog comp (Koleda stuns, Soldier 11/Evelyn burst). In high-HP endgame, more flexible defenders are usually preferred. (Moderate confidence: Ben is an older agent with little mode-specific coverage.)

Deadly Assault

Deadly Assault pits you against very tanky bosses with heavy hits — Ben leans into his survival role (shield + block invuln) to keep the team steady through combos, but his low output means he's rarely a top scorer. Use him when you want a safe clear over a high score. (Moderate confidence.)
