Recommended Drive Discs

Standard set: 4pc Yunkui Tales for Rupture, 2pc Branch & Blade Song to push CRIT DMG.
A variant when you're short on CRIT Rate: 2pc Woodpecker props CRIT Rate up to the 50-60% threshold.
Stat priority

4: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG · 5: Fire DMG · 6: HP%

Prioritize CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG > HP% > ATK; aim for ~60% CRIT Rate / ~150%+ CRIT DMG, then farm HP.

Skill priority: Core Skill > EX Special > Chain Attack > Basic Attack.

Quick verdict

Well worth investing in: one of the top-meta Fire Ruptures, with huge Sheer damage once she enters Visage of Wrath and clear team synergy with Dialyn/Lucia. Her downsides are the ramp-up time to charge Wrathful Fires and a reliance on a balanced CRIT/HP build; without the right buffer she loses a notable amount of power.

Stat targets

Level 60 base : HP 8,497 / ATK 859 / DEF 445 / Impact 95 / Crit Rate 5% / Crit DMG 78.8% / Anomaly Mastery 90. Key mechanic: every 1 Max HP adds 0.1 Sheer Force, and all of Banyue's Fire DMG is Sheer DMG (ignores DEF, uses Sheer Force as the multiplier) — so HP IS a damage stat. HP target: aim for 45,000-50,000 HP (45k ≈ 4,500 Sheer Force); beyond 50k, pivot to Crit DMG. Endgame: ~70% Crit Rate / 180%+ Crit DMG / 4,500+ Sheer Force / 300+ Impact. Beginner-fine: ~50-60% Crit Rate / ~150%+ Crit DMG, then farm HP. Substat priority: Crit Rate ≈ Crit DMG > HP% > ATK% > flat HP.

Rotation & combos

1) CHARGE: use EX Special Earth Shaker + Mountain Tremor, mixed with Dodge/Parry (dodge = 4, perfect block = 6 points) to build Wrathful Fires to 120 (150 cap). 2) TRIGGER: cast Immolate to enter Visage of Wrath, gaining 4 Mountain's Might → free EX Specials and Adrenaline refunds. 3) BURST: hold Special to unload the chain Earth Shaker → Mountain Tremor → One's Path → Lion's Roar. 4) FINISH: close with the two-rock crush Toppling Mountain / Crushing Peaks for the biggest single hit. 5) SUSTAIN: between cycles keep dodging/parrying so Wrathful Fires never drops, then repeat from step 2. With M1: apply One's Path early to land Tremor (Fire RES down) before the burst.

Pros
  • Sheer DMG ignores DEF and scales off Max HP → huge single-target output that isn't eaten by enemy armor/level, very consistent.
  • Very tanky: high HP is both damage and survivability; building Wrathful Fires via dodge/parry grants lots of i-frames, so he stays alive and is energy-self-sufficient.
  • Low reliance on energy batteries — self-generates Adrenaline/Wrathful Fires through defensive play, opening up team choices.
  • M1 shreds 10% team-wide Fire RES, adding value alongside Fire partners (Ju Fufu…).
Cons
  • Extremely execution-heavy: one of the hardest DPS to pilot — long combos, precise dodge/parry timing and Wrathful Fires upkeep; mistakes cost real damage.
  • Three-way stat hunger: needs balanced HP (45-50k) + Crit + Impact (300+) at once — very demanding disc farming, hard to hit every threshold.
  • Ramp-up required: must build Wrathful Fires to 120 before Visage of Wrath — the burst window comes late, less flexible in short/rushed content.

Endgame mode fit

Shiyu Defense

Excellent in Shiyu Defense: a top single-target single-side clearer — dumps massive Sheer DMG on bosses inside the Visage of Wrath window. S-tier setups (per/bittopup aggregates) clear ~85s with ~4,750 points & ~48% Banyue stagger; core team Banyue + Dialyn (Stun, +Crit DMG) + Lucia (Max HP/Sheer Force), or Ju Fufu + Astra Yao.

Deadly Assault

Strong in Deadly Assault: with Birkblick/Booressure he regularly hits ~4,500-5,000 points per clear (per). Scores well via DEF-piercing Sheer DMG on high-HP foes; wants a Stun (Dialyn/Ju Fufu) to open windows and a Support (Lucia/Astra Yao) buffing HP/damage for tidy bursts.

Core Passive: One With the Mountains
Banyue gains extra Sheer Force based on his Max HP, with every 1 point of Max HP increasing his Sheer Force by 0.1.All Fire DMG Banyue deals is Sheer DMG, ignoring enemy DEF and using his Sheer Force stat as the DMG Multiplier. When Banyue enters the battlefield, he immediately recovers 60 Adrenaline. In Investigation Zone Mode, this effect can trigger once every 180s.Banyue can recover Wrathful Fires through the following methods:Recover 0.5 Wrathful Fires for every point of Adrenaline consumed;Recover 4 Wrathful Fires upon activating Defensive Assist;Recover 4 Wrathful Fires when parrying an enemy with Dodge: Immovable Mountain, and recover 6 Wrathful Fires instead upon triggering a Perfect Block, up to once every 1s;Recover 4 Wrathful Fires upon triggering a Perfect Dodge, up to once every 1s.Banyue can have up to 150 Wrathful Fires. When he possesses at least 120 Wrathful Fires, Banyue can enter the Visage of Wrath state by using Basic Attack: Immolate. While in Visage of Wrath state, Banyue can no longer gain Wrathful Fires. After Banyue uses Basic Attack: Toppling Mountain, he exits the Visage of Wrath state. When entering the Visage of Wrath state, Banyue gains 4 Mountain's Might. If Banyue has Mountain's Might, launching an EX Special Attack no longer consumes Adrenaline, instead consuming 1 Mountain's Might and restoring 10 Adrenaline. Upon exiting the Visage of Wrath state, remove all Mountain's Might. When possessing Mountain's Might in Visage of Wrath state, hold to launch four different EX Special Attacks and Basic Attack: Toppling Mountain in a fixed sequence. When Banyue uses an EX Special Attack or Assist Follow-Up, he increases his Sheer Force by 150, Fire DMG by 18%, and CRIT DMG by 18% for 30s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.*Stats shown are at Base level.

Additional Ability: Mountain's Zenith
When another character in your squad is a Support or Stun character: While in the Visage of Wrath state, when Banyue consumes Mountain's Might to unleash an EX Special Attack through a Basic Attack branch or quick input commands, he gains one stack of Vidyaraja. Each stack of Vidyaraja increases his Fire DMG by 5%, stacking up to 3 times and lasting 8s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

Mindscapes — how far is worth it?

M1 Greed Burns Like Fire Worth it

When Banyue hits an enemy with EX Special Attack: One's Path or EX Special Attack: Earth Shaker, he inflicts the Tremor state. In this state, enemies Fire RES is reduced by 10%, lasting 30s. When EX Special Attack: Lion's Roar, EX Special Attack: Lion's Roar - Wrath, EX Special Attack: Mountain Tremor, EX Special Attack: Mountain Tremor - Wrath, Basic Attack: Toppling Mountain, and Basic Attack: Crushing Peaks hits an enemy in the Tremor state, the Sheer DMG dealt is increased by 10%. When Basic Attack: Crushing Peaks hits a Stunned enemy, the current Stun duration is extended by 2s. This effect can only trigger once per Stun and does not stack with similar effects. Did Banyue Shifu ever have any desires of his own? He runs a martial arts school in Failume Heights, apparently only because a certain grandmaster once suggested he open one. The school doesn't even have a name, he isn't looking for fame for fortune, and he's never once told his students to shout slogans about passing down his art. Only Banyue Shifu himself knows that the obsession called repentance burns that iron heart, day and night. A single mistake could send him spiralling. "Greed is like fire. When kept in check, it lights the way forward, but left unchecked, it burns you instead."

M2 Anger Cuts Like a Blade Worth it

The CRIT DMG bonus from the Core Passive is increased by an additional 15%, and the Fire DMG bonus is increased by an additional 15%. While in the Visage of Wrath state, Banyue restores an additional 5 Adrenaline when consuming Mountain's Might to unleash an EX Special Attack. The students at the martial arts school had never seen Banyue Shifu lose his temper, let alone fly into a rage. Even with the dullest or most reckless students, he seemed endlessly patient. After all, how could a mountain ever grow angry? Its deep, immovable calm makes people almost forget the fury it can hold. But when it stirs with the wrath of the heavens, even the fiercest of beasts will tremble in fear. "Anger is like a blade — keep it sheathed in daily life, lest it wound those around you."

M3 Ignorance Binds Like Chains Low value

Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2 Banyue Shifu was not just a warrior, but a wise man — or so said both his students and the neighbors who knew him. After all, he always looked so composed and thoughtful. Though he spoke little, every word that left his mouth sounded like a proverb worth pondering. Martial arts, he often said, are not only a way to train the body but also the heart. And as he would always add, he himself was still just a student. "I, Banyue, have been slow and foolish, once straying from the right path. But to clear the way for you on this journey... these fists are still yours to command."

M4 Purge Unit - Type Zero Situational

EX Special Attack: Lion's Roar - Wrath, EX Special Attack: Mountain Tremor - Wrath, Basic Attack: Toppling Mountain, and Basic Attack: Crushing Peaks DMG increase by 30%. Fate may be ordained by the heavens or shaped by human hands. Yet for some, destiny and guilt were never granted the mercy of free will. Before ever having a name, the combat construct known as "Type Zero" was, in the truest sense, nothing more than a killing machine. And when did a "heart" form? Was it the day she erased the chains of his code, or the moment he found the courage to carry it all and keep moving forward? "Repentance is too easy. Rather than fleeing from past sins, shoulder the mountain of your past... and throw a punch."

M5 Student Low value

Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2 Did you hear? There's a martial arts school up in the mountain taught by some big construct. The students there are no joke; they can even hold their own against Ethereals. Their iron-bodied Shifu often heads into the Hollows to help with rescues, too. Must be quite the martial arts master, huh? "I'm still just a clumsy student myself... Though you all call me 'Shifu,' it's you who have taught me what it means to be a person."

M6 Descended Vidyaraja Worth it

At any time, when Banyue uses an EX Special Attack, he also gains Vidyaraja. The Fire DMG bonus from Vidyaraja is increased by an additional 8%, and its duration is extended to 30s. When activating Basic Attack: Crushing Peaks, Banyue deals Fire DMG equal to 600% of his Sheer Force to nearby enemies. Using Dodge: Battle Cry immediately after an EX Special Attack also grants Vidyaraja. "Dying's the easy way out, isn't it, big guy? You've still got a long path of redemption ahead of you!" "This... is my final verdict!" Her frame was delicate, yet her words landed with a weight that seemed to cut through a mountain of burden and doubt. "I still question whether I have the wisdom and courage to judge... but that's no excuse to stop moving forward."

Background & Lore

Banyue is an Intelligent Construct who runs a martial arts school in Waifei, known to many as "Banyue Shifu." He has lived for a long time, his stone-lion-like presence commanding respect. A martial arts expert of great skill, he shares a long-standing friendship with Yunkui Summit's current High Preceptor, Yixuan. As a martial master, Banyue is quiet but dependable. His methods and beliefs are rooted in tradition, and he disciplines his students with strict yet thoughtful guidance, teaching them not just how to fight, but how to learn. Known as a true master of the martial arts, in battle, he can assume a special form known as the Visage of Wrath to vanquish all evil. A long inhabitant of Waifei, Banyue is quiet and even-tempered. He doesn't express emotions easily and has the manner of someone from another era. Knowing he's out of touch with modern trends, he's been secretly trying to learn the latest internet slang... yet his half-baked grasp of it tends to end in funny little misunderstandings. Banyue also appears to have a strange liking for round things — stone balls, spherical bollards, and the like. If the conversation ever goes silent while you're alone with him, bringing up something spherical usually does the trick. Increase Trust to Close to unlock more Banyue's true identity is that of a killing machine secretly developed years ago by TOPS, specifically designed to suppress Miasma and codenamed "Purge Unit - Type Zero." The algorithm implanted within him drives him to act according to the most logical solution for eliminating Miasma, which often results in indiscriminate annihilation of all moving targets within sight, including both the Miasma and affected civilians. After a failed operation, Banyue, then still a mere machine, was abandoned by TOPS, but was then discovered by a sage visiting the Lemnian Hollow, who rewrote his Core and constructed new intelligent logic for him, allowing Banyue to gradually develop self-awareness. Later, Banyue was accepted by the residents of the old mining site in Waifei Peninsula, where he integrated into "human" life. During the catastrophic Miasma outbreak at the old mining site ten years ago, Banyue rushed to rescue the civilians, yet under the influence of his perfectly rational algorithms, he abandoned those he deemed beyond saving. Though he saved the young Ye Shunguang and Ye Shiyuan, this planted a deep-seated guilt within him for "abandoning those in need." As a result, Banyue never took the Forbidden Fruit test, and despite meeting the criteria of an Intelligent Construct, he remains officially unrecognized as one. After receiving judgment from Dialyn, a Judge of the Krampus Compliance Authority, Banyue resolved to atone for his past regrets by protecting the future. Through Dialyn's recommendation, he has now become a Judge of the Krampus Compliance Authority, embarking on a completely new journey. Belle Banyue Shifu may look calm and composed, but he's actually got a timid side! Last time he visited Suibian Temple, a mouse happened to scurry in, and though he did his best to hide it, it was clear he was unsettled... Wise Come to think of it, one time, a kid dropped a marble, and he kept looking at it... I guess Banyue Shifu isn't always the composed martial arts master he seems to be.

How to read this build page

Every Agent build page has 4 parts: a stat table by level, W-Engine/Drive Disc suggestions, a Mindscape roadmap, and recommended teams. Read them in that order — stats tell you "what you need", gear tells you "where to get it", Mindscape tells you "is it worth pulling", teams tell you "who to pair with". The section below explains how to read each part, and it applies the same way to every character on the site.

How to read the stat table and level

The stat table shows values at the ascension breakpoints (usually the final one, e.g. Lv60) — these are BASE stats with no gear added, useful for comparing Agents or checking whether you've ascended far enough. CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG are shown separately because they set the damage ceiling once Drive Disc substats stack on top. If your real stats are lower than the table, you likely haven't fully ascended or leveled yet — it's not a build mistake.

Why the W-Engine and Drive Disc picks make sense

Most Agents have a "signature" W-Engine designed for their exact role, plus a few cheaper standard-banner substitutes. Missing the signature isn't a dead end — most Agents keep most of their power with a well-matched substitute, just short by some amount of total damage.

  • Drive Disc sets (2pc + 4pc) are picked for the set effect that fits that Agent's playstyle (mono-element, Anomaly, stun, and so on).
  • Substats follow a priority that changes by role: Attack-type Agents usually chase CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG before ATK%; Anomaly-type Agents add Anomaly Proficiency to that mix; Stun/Support roles often value survivability or energy stats over pure CRIT.

These weights differ per character — follow the exact substat priority table above rather than applying one formula to every role.

Is Mindscape worth chasing

General rule: M0 (no duplicates) already clears the game's hardest content, even for S-rank Agents. Mindscape is a duplicate-fueled upgrade system, and each level costs more resources for a smaller power gain. For most Agents, the best value stop is usually M1–M2 (where some key effects unlock), while M6 is almost always for players chasing the absolute ceiling, not a requirement. Check the Mindscape section in the table above for that specific Agent's numbers.

Skill priority by role

There's no single order for every Agent, but the general pattern by role is:

  • Attack: level the main damage skill first (Basic or Special Attack depending on kit), Dash/Dodge last.
  • Stun: prioritize whichever skill builds Daze/Stun fastest, since the stun window is where the whole team dumps damage.
  • Support: prioritize buff or energy-generating skills over personal damage — this role's value comes from lifting the whole team.
  • Anomaly: prioritize the skill that stacks anomaly buildup, since most of the damage comes from the triggered effect, not the direct hit.

Always level the Core Skill steadily alongside the rest — it's a baseline stat that affects the whole rotation, not just one move.

Where to dig deeper

This section only teaches you how to read the page — for deeper comparisons, use the dedicated tools:

  • Tier list to see where this Agent stands against the full roster.
  • Teams for full in-game comps, including Bangboo and rotation order.
  • Disc score to check how your current gear scores against the benchmark.

Banyue FAQ

What is the best W-Engine for Banyue?

Banyue performs best with Wrathful Vajra. See alternatives and required stats in the Gear section above.

Is Banyue worth pulling?

Well worth investing in: one of the top-meta Fire Ruptures, with huge Sheer damage once she enters Visage of Wrath and clear team synergy with Dialyn/Lucia. Her downsides are the ramp-up time to charge Wrathful Fires and a reliance on a balanced CRIT/HP build; without the right buffer she loses a notable amount of power.

What is the best team for Banyue?

Banyue works best in the Standard Fire Rupture team. Full members and rotation are in the Teams section.

Who voices Banyue in Zenless Zone Zero?

Banyue (faction Krampus Compliance Authority, birthday July 24th) is voiced according to the official credits published on the HoYoverse Wiki. See the full English/Japanese/Korean/Chinese voice actor list in the "Voice Actors & Character Info" block above — this data is pulled directly from the official wiki, not guessed.

Which Mindscape of Banyue is worth investing in?

Banyue has 6 Mindscape tiers (M1-M6), each unlocking its own effect detailed in the "Mindscape" block above (official wording). Mindscapes cost Mindscape Cinema currency farmed from limited banners, so weigh it against your budget — F2P players usually stop at M0-M1 and prioritize W-Engine and Drive Discs before pushing Mindscape higher.

How much Denny and how many materials to level Banyue to Lv60?

Leveling Banyue to max Lv60 (ascension + basic skills to 12 + core skill A→F) costs roughly 1,706,000 Denny, plus role-specific ascension materials, attribute-specific skill chips, high-dimensional data, and weekly boss drops — see the full list with exact quantities in the "Materials Needed" block above, sourced from the game's official leveling tables.
