XI
Since who knows how many years ago,
The monkeys no longer had a Monkey King.
They learned to read the wisdom of the moon,
And boil asphalt into syrup.
Asphalt is the shadow of utmost darkness,
Both a curse and a wonder of finance.
A monkey laughing till tears fall,
Has learned the trick of pulling something out of thin air.
I grant you one minute as a god,
While shadow and moon whisper in unison.
The animals rejoice with glee,
But none expect the end draws near.
Oh no,
An old monkey stops in its tracks, crying out in alarm.
On the moon has appeared a crack,
That corresponds with the ancient prophecy.
The end draws near,
And the moon shatters.
The trees remain silent,
But the monkeys can no longer climb.
