NIKKE Team Building: Full Burst Rotation, Cooldowns & Roles
B1-B2-B3-B3 + FLEX explained, with roles and rotation math.
Updated: 2026-08-02

A standard NIKKE team follows the B1-B2-B3-B3 + 1 FLEX pattern: one Burst I unit, one Burst II unit, two Burst III units, and one off-burst FLEX slot. You need at least 2 Burst III nikkes because every Burst III skill has a 40-second cooldown, so the two must alternate to keep Full Burst coming back every 20 seconds. The Burst I and Burst II slots should ideally have 20s cooldown so they are always ready when their turn comes around.
Cooldowns and the 20-second rotation
Burst I and Burst II skills can have a 20s or 40s cooldown (a few are 60s). Burst III is always 40s across the entire roster. To keep casting Full Burst on the tightest possible 20-second timer, you want:
- One Burst I unit with 20s cooldown
- One Burst II unit with 20s cooldown
- Two Burst III units (40s each), alternating so one is always ready
Units with a 60s Burst cooldown cannot rotate cleanly into a 20s loop and are usually built around a different, slower rotation instead.
Re-Enter bursts
Some units, like Tia, have a Re-Enter burst — meaning their skill repeats the same burst stage instead of advancing to the next one (e.g. Tia re-enters Burst I). If your team includes a re-enter unit, you effectively need one extra unit of that same stage to still complete the full I-II-III chain.
- A re-enter Burst I unit means you need a second, separate Burst I unit to actually trigger Burst II
- Plan re-enter units as an addition to the base B1-B2-B3-B3 formula, not a replacement
FLEX and off-burst slots
The 5th slot in a team does not need to fit the burst rotation at all. A FLEX / off-burst unit is useful through its passive skills, buffs, or raw damage without ever needing to press its burst — often because its burst cooldown is long (60s) or its non-burst kit is simply strong enough on its own.
- Off-burst units let you slot in a strong DPS or support without breaking the 20s cadence
- Common FLEX picks are chosen for their skill 1/2 buffs rather than burst value
The 7 roles and 3 required ones
NIKKE community taxonomy splits units into 7 roles, each with a recommended count per team:
- DPS: 1-3
- Offensive Support: 2-4
- Defensive Support: 0-2
- Energy Support: 1-3
- Healer: 0-2
- Shielder: 0-2
- Taunter: 0-1
Three roles are considered mandatory in almost every team: DPS, Offensive Support, and Energy Support. Without Energy Support your burst gauge fills too slowly; without Offensive Support your DPS underperforms; without DPS you simply lack damage.
