TL;DR

NIKKE battles play out across 5 positions (P1-P5), left to right: P1, P3 and P5 are frontline, P2 and P4 are backline, and the center slot is always your manually-controlled character. Staying in cover (not firing) makes incoming hits land on your cover object instead of your nikke, while cover itself has HP and can break. i-framing means an enemy attack targets the snapshot of your position at the moment it fired (shown by a flashing red circle), so switching between cover and peek right before impact lets you dodge it entirely.

5 positions and auto-burst priority

Your squad occupies 5 slots, P1 through P5, left to right on screen:

  • Frontline: P1, P3, P5
  • Backline: P2, P4
  • Center slot: always the character you manually control

In Auto mode, the unit positioned further to the left has priority to burst first. This same left-side priority also applies in Arena, where the leftmost enemy unit tends to get targeted first — worth keeping in mind when arranging your defense team.

Cover, peeking and destructible cover

Whenever a nikke is not firing, she is considered "in cover." While in cover, incoming attacks hit the cover object instead of the character, and cover objects have their own HP and can be destroyed if hit enough. You can force your whole squad into cover manually:

  • Tap the avatar again on mobile or PC
  • Press Spacebar on PC

Once cover is destroyed at a given position, characters standing there lose that protection and take direct damage until the stage resets or they reposition.

i-Framing enemy attacks

Enemy attacks in NIKKE do not track your position live — instead they lock onto a snapshot of where you were standing (cover or peek) at the exact moment the attack was fired, shown as a flashing red circle. This means if you change state right before the hit lands, the attack resolves against your old position and misses entirely.

  • Watch for the flashing red circle warning
  • Switching cover-to-peek or peek-to-cover right before impact dodges the attack
  • This is the core skill-expression tool in harder Interception and boss fights

3 stage types and stalling

NIKKE stages come in 3 types with different win conditions:

  • Destroy Stage: kill the boss/wave to clear
  • Defense Battle: stop enemies from reaching the Wall; integrity HP hitting 0 is a loss, while surviving the timer with at least 1 nikke alive and integrity ≥ 1 is a win
  • Base Defense: hold over 50% of the Control Zone when time runs out, or reach 100% control

Stalling is intentionally keeping one mob alive longer to delay the next wave — useful for waiting out a burst cooldown or building up ammo/stacks before engaging fully.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make my whole team take cover instantly?

Tap the character avatar again on mobile or PC, or press Spacebar on PC, to send the whole squad into cover at once.

Does an element disadvantage give the enemy a damage bonus against me?

No. Element advantage only grants a +10% damage bonus to the side that has it; there is no separate penalty applied when you are on the disadvantaged side, beyond simply not getting that +10%.

What is the win condition for a Defense Battle stage?

You lose immediately if the Wall integrity HP hits 0. You win if the timer runs out while at least 1 nikke is still alive and integrity is at least 1.

Why would I intentionally stall a mob instead of killing it?

Stalling buys time — for example waiting out a Burst III cooldown so your next Full Burst window lines up better, or letting ammo/stacks build up before you commit to clearing the wave for maximum damage.
