Two different limit rules

Gakuen Idolmaster uses two SEPARATE limit mechanics for skill cards that are easy to confuse because both get called “limit”:

Once per lesson (レッスン1回, “Lesson 1-time”)
The card can only be used the stated number of times within a single Lesson/Audition, after which it moves to that turn's temporary removal zone. If another effect returns it to your hand or deck from that zone, it can be used again within the SAME lesson — the limit resets per lesson, not per whole Produce run.
No duplicates in the deck (重複不可, “no duplicates allowed”)
A Unique card: when you build your deck at the start of a Produce run, you cannot hold two identical copies. Exception: effects that “generate” a new card mid-run (swaps, card creation) ignore this rule — your deck can briefly hold multiple copies during a run; the restriction only applies to the deck you build at the start.

Sparkling Prism+ is affected by BOTH rules above: usable up to 1 time(s) per lesson, and only one copy is allowed per deck.

Card operations beyond regular upgrading

During a Produce run, skill cards are affected by several other operation mechanics — not just “upgrading to the + version”:

Remove from deck (削除)

Takes one card out of your current deck. A removed card stays available in the reward pool and can return to the deck later through another effect.

Random swap (チェンジ)

Swaps a card you own for a RANDOM other card currently in the reward pool — you don't get to pick the replacement.

Chosen swap (セレクトチェンジ)

Like a random swap, but you get to CHOOSE which card to swap into from a small set of offered options — a rare mechanic that only appears in certain chapters/scenarios.

Reroll all offered choices (再抽選)

Discards all 3 card choices currently offered and draws a brand-new set of 3 from the reward pool.

Exclude one offered choice (除去)

Permanently removes one of the 3 offered card choices from the reward pool — that card won't be offered again for the rest of this Produce run.

Auto-upgrade support from a Support Card (スキルカードサポート)

Some Support Cards carry a passive effect: a chance to automatically bump the skill card you're using up one tier during a Lesson/exam/Audition — the odds depend on that Support Card's type, rarity and level.

Upgrade priority framework

Players commonly sort skill cards into one of four groups when deciding whether to spend resources upgrading them:

Must upgrade
Cards used in most decks, where the core effect scales noticeably with level — skipping the upgrade is a clear long-term loss.
Recommended to upgrade
Useful but not mandatory — upgrading makes the card meaningfully stronger, but the base version still performs fine while you save resources.
Situational
How much the upgrade helps depends on your specific playstyle/team — some builds benefit clearly, others barely notice the difference.
Better left unupgraded
Some cards are intentionally left unupgraded so the resources go to a more important card, or because the upgrade doesn't change much relative to its cost.

This page does not assign the card you're viewing to any group — compare its real effect and cost (the “Mechanics” section above) against the four criteria above to decide for yourself.
