Quick verdict

Yanagi is one of the strongest Electric Anomaly DPS in the game—sticky on-field and a monster at stacking Disorder. Well worth leveling and investing in her signature Timeweaver. Her only weakness is needing an off-element teammate to maximize Disorder; run mono-Electric and you give up part of her power.

Stat targets

Level 60 targets : Anomaly Mastery is the absolute priority. the community recommends AM 400 / ATK 2500 WITHOUT the signature engine, or AM 350 / ATK 3000 WITH it (beginner floor AM 330 / ATK 2000). targets AM 326 / ATK 2947 and stresses AM 300 minimum to activate the signature engine's effect (push 350-375+ to max it). Yanagi barely wants CRIT since she scales off anomaly; slot 5 goes PEN Ratio (or ATK%/Electric DMG in a DEF-shred team with Nicole/Trigger).

Rotation & combos

Opener: (if the team has an off-element anomaly unit, let them apply their status first) → tap EX Special on entry to enter the Forbidden Knowledge stance. Loop: Basic Attack strings 3→4→5 x2 → Special (tap) to swap stance → Basic 3→4→5 x2 again (skip the early physical hits to keep Electric output consistent). Finisher: once the enemy is Shocked, hold EX Special (Lunar Cycle) to detonate Polarity Disorder, then swap out. Time the EX into the enemy's attack window to soak the stance-swap damage-reduction frames.

Pros
  • Self-sufficient Disorder: her falling hit on an already-afflicted enemy triggers Polarity Disorder, so she works without a second anomaly partner.
  • Polarity Disorder does NOT consume the underlying anomaly, so she can chain it repeatedly for sustained, uninterrupted damage.
  • Her dual-stance system gives permanent buffs and excellent on-field endurance; flexible in both mono-Electric and multi-element teams.
  • Stance swaps have a guard window that reduces incoming damage, letting her attack and defend smoothly.
Cons
  • The Anomaly Mastery threshold to activate her signature engine is steep (300 minimum, ~375 to max), demanding good discs and rough on newer accounts.
  • Average base stats — nearly all her power comes from anomaly/Disorder rather than base stats, so a wrong build tanks her hard.
  • Fiddly anomaly timing: you must ensure Yanagi only builds Electric anomaly while the enemy is Shocked, which makes the rotation tricky in double-anomaly teams with Burnice/Vivian.

Endgame mode fit

Shiyu Defense

Excellent for Shiyu Defense: durable on-field damage with strong multi-target Disorder; notes an Anomaly-Mastery build clearing S across all stages in shifting-node seasons. Best paired with Miyabi (resource recovery) or Vivian (chaos buff).

Deadly Assault

Also strong in Deadly Assault: sustained AoE Disorder scores well in this multi-enemy DPS-check mode; wants a Shock-feeder or off-element anomaly partner to keep Disorder uptime.

For the duration of this state, when following up with a subsequent Basic Attack from the 5th hit of a Basic Attack or other skills, the combo will begin directly from the 3rd hit of the Basic Attack. If the downward attack hits an enemy suffering an Anomaly, it triggers a special Disorder effect, Polarity Disorder, dealing 15% of the original Disorder effect's DMG to the target, plus an additional 725% of Yanagi's Anomaly Proficiency. Polarity Disorder will not remove the target's Anomaly. Character is invulnerable while using this skill.

When the lightning strike hits an enemy affected by an Attribute Anomaly, it triggers a special Disorder effect called Polarity Disorder. This deals DMG equal to 15% of the original Disorder effect plus an additional 725% of Yanagi's Anomaly Proficiency. Polarity Disorder will not remove the target's Anomaly. Character is invulnerable while using this skill. After using this skill, Yanagi can immediately follow up with the 3rd hit of the current stance's Basic Attack.

Mindscapes — how far is worth it?

M1 Know Thy Self, Know Thy Enemy Worth it

When any squad member inflicts an Anomaly on an enemy, Yanagi gains 1 stack of Clarity, lasting 15s, stacking up to 3 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Upon being hit by an enemy attack, Yanagi consumes 1 stack of Clarity to gain invulnerability for 1s. When Yanagi has 1 or more stacks of Clarity, her Anomaly Proficiency increases by 80. "Having the clarity to see your enemy's weakness is like an extra safety net... and it increasing your chances at victory." Yanagi adjusts her glasses, remaining as composed as ever, even when victory is already assured.

M2 Outstanding Adaptability Worth it

During her EX Special Attack, the rapid thrust's Electric Anomaly Buildup increases by 15%. Holding down the Special Attack button after a rapid thrust hits an enemy will consume 10 additional Energy to launch another thrust. If Energy is insufficient or the button is released, the attack automatically follows up with the downward attack. When the downward attack hits an enemy suffering an Anomaly and triggers Polarity Disorder, the DMG multiplier increases to 25% of the original Disorder effect. Each additional thrust increases this multiplier by 2.5%, up to a maximum of 2 extra thrusts. "Yanagi can handle any unfamiliar environment thrown her way." "I believe in her more than I believe in myself." — From a martial artist practicing "the cutting of fallen leaves."

M3 Tsukishiro Style Management Low value

Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2 Everyone says Section 6 is gathering oddballs and geniuses, with Tsukishiro Yanagi being the only "normal" one. But it’s precisely her presence that holds the oddballs and geniuses together.

M4 Chessmaster Situational

When Yanagi inflicts Attribute Anomaly DMG on an enemy, they suffer the Exposed effect, lasting 15s. Attacks on enemies under the Expose effect will have 16% increased PEN Ratio. No matter the situation, Tsukishiro Yanagi can rapidly grasp all the information at hand and make the most appropriate decision.

M5 Other Mother Low value

Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2 At present, Tsukishiro Yanagi is the sole designated guardian of Soukaku. "Soukaku, this is the Chief's riceball, you mustn't eat it... forget it, come here, I'll heat it up for you." "We'll just buy a similar one for the Chief later."

M6 Inhuman Blood Low value

After a thrust attack during her EX Special Attack, the duration of the Shinrabanshou state increases to 30s. While the state is active, EX Special Attack DMG increases by 15%. The maximum number of times the additional DMG multiplier increase effect for Polarity Disorder in Outstanding Adaptability can be triggered increases to 4, and the Energy cost for the first 4 additional thrust attacks is halved. Flowing through Tsukishiro Yanagi's veins is blood that isn’t entirely her own. This blood once granted her new life in the face of despair, and with it, she gained certain special powers. "But as you know, something that isn't mine... comes with a price."

Background & Lore

Tsukishiro Yanagi, Hollow Special Operations Section 6 Deputy Chief and intelligence officer. Primarily responsible for personnel management, mission management and feedback, collecting intel, on-site support, etc. At the same time, Yanagi is also Section 6 member Soukaku's Protector. Apart from taking care of Soukaku's day-to-day affairs, she is also responsible for and takes responsibility for all of Soukaku's behavior at work. Section 6 Chief Hoshimi Miyabi possesses a rather eccentric personality; Asaba Harumasa, a member of Section 6, is overly relaxed and carefree; and Soukaku, another member of Section, 6 is still an innocent and excitable child, so most of the team's work falls upon Yanagi's shoulders. Serious, diligent, and meticulous, Tsukishiro Yanagi is the only "normal" person on the team, so to speak. It is only due to her guidance and leadership that the strength of the three who make up Section 6's primary on-field force can be transformed into true combat power. Overall, Tsukishiro Yanagi is a talented and highly efficient executive officer, whose abilities are both exceptional and comprehensive. However, from certain data, Tsukishiro Yanagi appears to have a somewhat clumsy side to her when it comes to day-to-day affairs. Increase Trust to Close to unlock more Due to an accident long ago, Tsukishiro Yanagi appears to possess blood that does not belong to her, flowing through her veins. Belle Where did Fairy even get this info? So even a perfect person like Yanagi has her clumsy moments? Got any specifics to share? Wise How should I put this...? From this data, it feels like Section 6 would fall apart without Yanagi.

More unlocks as Trust with this character increases in-game.

How to read this build page

Every Agent build page has 4 parts: a stat table by level, W-Engine/Drive Disc suggestions, a Mindscape roadmap, and recommended teams. Read them in that order — stats tell you "what you need", gear tells you "where to get it", Mindscape tells you "is it worth pulling", teams tell you "who to pair with". The section below explains how to read each part, and it applies the same way to every character on the site.

How to read the stat table and level

The stat table shows values at the ascension breakpoints (usually the final one, e.g. Lv60) — these are BASE stats with no gear added, useful for comparing Agents or checking whether you've ascended far enough. CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG are shown separately because they set the damage ceiling once Drive Disc substats stack on top. If your real stats are lower than the table, you likely haven't fully ascended or leveled yet — it's not a build mistake.

Why the W-Engine and Drive Disc picks make sense

Most Agents have a "signature" W-Engine designed for their exact role, plus a few cheaper standard-banner substitutes. Missing the signature isn't a dead end — most Agents keep most of their power with a well-matched substitute, just short by some amount of total damage.

  • Drive Disc sets (2pc + 4pc) are picked for the set effect that fits that Agent's playstyle (mono-element, Anomaly, stun, and so on).
  • Substats follow a priority that changes by role: Attack-type Agents usually chase CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG before ATK%; Anomaly-type Agents add Anomaly Proficiency to that mix; Stun/Support roles often value survivability or energy stats over pure CRIT.

These weights differ per character — follow the exact substat priority table above rather than applying one formula to every role.

Is Mindscape worth chasing

General rule: M0 (no duplicates) already clears the game's hardest content, even for S-rank Agents. Mindscape is a duplicate-fueled upgrade system, and each level costs more resources for a smaller power gain. For most Agents, the best value stop is usually M1–M2 (where some key effects unlock), while M6 is almost always for players chasing the absolute ceiling, not a requirement. Check the Mindscape section in the table above for that specific Agent's numbers.

Skill priority by role

There's no single order for every Agent, but the general pattern by role is:

  • Attack: level the main damage skill first (Basic or Special Attack depending on kit), Dash/Dodge last.
  • Stun: prioritize whichever skill builds Daze/Stun fastest, since the stun window is where the whole team dumps damage.
  • Support: prioritize buff or energy-generating skills over personal damage — this role's value comes from lifting the whole team.
  • Anomaly: prioritize the skill that stacks anomaly buildup, since most of the damage comes from the triggered effect, not the direct hit.

Always level the Core Skill steadily alongside the rest — it's a baseline stat that affects the whole rotation, not just one move.

Where to dig deeper

This section only teaches you how to read the page — for deeper comparisons, use the dedicated tools:

Yanagi FAQ

What is the best W-Engine for Yanagi?

Yanagi performs best with Timeweaver. See alternatives and required stats in the Gear section above.

Is Yanagi worth pulling?

Yanagi is one of the strongest Electric Anomaly DPS in the game—sticky on-field and a monster at stacking Disorder. Well worth leveling and investing in her signature Timeweaver. Her only weakness is needing an off-element teammate to maximize Disorder; run mono-Electric and you give up part of her power.

What is the best team for Yanagi?

Yanagi works best in the Electric-Fire Disorder team. Full members and rotation are in the Teams section.

Who voices Yanagi in Zenless Zone Zero?

Yanagi (faction Hollow Special Operations Section 6, birthday Sep 21) is voiced according to the official credits published on the HoYoverse Wiki. See the full English/Japanese/Korean/Chinese voice actor list in the "Voice Actors & Character Info" block above — this data is pulled directly from the official wiki, not guessed.

Which Mindscape of Yanagi is worth investing in?

Yanagi has 6 Mindscape tiers (M1-M6), each unlocking its own effect detailed in the "Mindscape" block above (official wording). Mindscapes cost Mindscape Cinema currency farmed from limited banners, so weigh it against your budget — F2P players usually stop at M0-M1 and prioritize W-Engine and Drive Discs before pushing Mindscape higher.

How much Denny and how many materials to level Yanagi to Lv60?

Leveling Yanagi to max Lv60 (ascension + basic skills to 12 + core skill A→F) costs roughly 1,706,000 Denny, plus role-specific ascension materials, attribute-specific skill chips, high-dimensional data, and weekly boss drops — see the full list with exact quantities in the "Materials Needed" block above, sourced from the game's official leveling tables.
