ZZZ Free Characters — How to Get Every Free Agent | Zenless Zone Zero

This is the easiest group — every player gets them without spending anything:

• Anby Demara (Stun · Electric), Nicole Demara (Support · Ether) and Billy Kid (Attack · Physical): granted after you finish the Prologue "Business x Strangeness x Justness". All three are members of the Cunning Hares.
• Ben Bigger (Defense · Fire): unlocked once you reach Inter-Knot Level 26 and continue the Main Story, then open Ben's message.

These four form your starter core and can carry you through the early game before you touch the gacha.

Beyond the story, two more A-rank Agents are handed out separately:

• Soukaku (Support · Ice): given through the Eridu Frontier event after you clear Shiyu Defense Stable Node: Third Frontier. She's a strong Ice support for mono-element teams.
• Corin Wickes (Attack · Physical): a pre-registration reward delivered via in-game mail. As a launch reward, accounts created after the pre-registration window may no longer get her this way — check your mailbox and any active login events.

The biggest highlight right now: Pyrois (S-rank · Ether · Attack) is given free to every player who completes the Version 3.0 Main Story quest A Sleepwalker's Confession.

The gift is unusually generous — it includes his signature W-Engine Sol Exuvia for free. His upgrades (Mindscapes) and the signature W-Engine can all be earned for free through Season 3 content; two Mindscapes can be unlocked during 3.0 itself by collecting Pixel Fairy Tales. In short, just by playing you get a fully built S-rank without spending Polychrome.

The Star-Studded Cast standard banner (Stable Channel) never rotates out, so it's your long-term source of free S-ranks:

• First 50 pulls: a guaranteed S-rank. This bonus can only be claimed once; afterwards the S-rank counter resets to 90 and your next S-rank may be an Agent or a W-Engine.
• 300 pulls: you get a selector to choose 1 of 6 S-ranks: Grace, Rina, Koleda, Nekomata, Soldier 11 and Lycaon.

Official rates: base S-rank rate 0.6%, hard pity at 90 pulls; per community data, the rate ramps up (soft pity) from around pull 75. You pull this banner with Polychrome or Master Tapes.

Not every free Agent deserves equal investment. Among the early-game free A-ranks, Anby and Nicole are usually considered the "long-term keepers" because their roles (Stun/Support and Support/healing) stay useful in most teams even after you've pulled stronger S-Ranks — they don't get phased out the way some A-Rank DPS Agents eventually do.

By contrast, free Agents built around pure damage usually only carry you through early content before S-Rank DPS Agents outpace them. A sensible strategy for a new F2P player: use your free DPS Agents to clear early content, but put your upgrade resources (Discs, level-ups) mainly into the free Stun/Support roles — those are the "foundation pieces" you'll keep using throughout the whole game.

Beyond Agents, ZZZ also gives out several free Bangboo — robot companions that act as a free fourth teammate without taking up a party slot. The first Bangboo is usually granted right in the opening story to teach the mechanic, with a few more unlocked gradually through main story chapters or specific Hollow missions.

The nice part about free Bangboo is that they tend to stay useful long-term: unlike Agents, Bangboo don't have the same S-Rank damage ceiling, so a free Bangboo that fits your team's needs (energy support, shielding, or Anomaly assistance) remains relevant all the way to late game. Don't skip a free Bangboo just because it seems "lesser" than a paid one — pick by team role, not by rarity.

Many of ZZZ's free rewards — including pre-registration gifts, maintenance compensation, and event anniversary bonuses — don't land in your inventory automatically; they arrive through the in-game Mail system. Mail has an expiration window (usually a few weeks to a few months depending on the type), and unclaimed rewards are lost for good once it passes.

A good habit for F2P players: check your Mail tab first thing every login to grab everything waiting there, especially right after maintenance or a new version launch — that's when the game often sends compensation gifts (including Polychrome, sometimes with Agent upgrade materials) that a lot of players miss simply by forgetting to check.

Taken together, the Agents and Bangboo ZZZ gives out for free during normal play (spending nothing) are enough to field a complete team that clears most main-story content and even some harder challenges. New players shouldn't assume they need to spend money to progress — make full use of everything given for free (story Agents, Bangboo, Mail rewards) first, and only consider spending later if you want to speed things up.
