ZZZ Master Tapes Explained — Encrypted Tape vs Boopon & How to Get Them | Zenless Zone Zero
Master Tape pulls the Stable (standard) Channel, Encrypted Master Tape pulls the limited character and W-Engine channels, and Boopon only pulls the Bangboo Channel. The three are separate tickets and can't be swapped. One pull costs one ticket or 160 Polychrome; Boopon can't be bought with Polychrome and is earned free in-game.
How the three tickets differ
Zenless Zone Zero has three pull (Signal Search) tickets, each locked to one group of banners:
| Ticket | Pulls which banner | Buy with Polychrome? |
| Master Tape | Stable Channel (standard, permanent) + beginner banner | Yes — 160 Polychrome each |
| Encrypted Master Tape | Limited character + W-Engine channels | Yes — 160 Polychrome each |
| Boopon | Bangboo Channel only | No — earned free in-game only |
Each ticket only works on its own banner group and they can't be swapped. One pull costs one ticket.
Master Tape: the standard banner
Master Tape is used on the Stable Channel — the permanent standard banner of base characters and W-Engines. Hard pity is 90 pulls for a guaranteed S-rank character or W-Engine. It's also the ticket for the beginner banner (the one-time 20%-off banner).
In short: Master Tape gets you the standard roster, not the current limited character.
Encrypted Master Tape: limited & W-Engine
Encrypted Master Tape is the ticket that matters most — it pulls the limited character banner and the W-Engine banner:
- Character banner (Exclusive Channel): 90 hard pity with a 50/50 — your first S-rank has a 50% chance to be the featured Agent; if you lose it, the next S-rank is guaranteed featured.
- W-Engine banner: 80 hard pity with a 75/25 — 75% chance for the featured W-Engine; if you miss, the next S-rank is guaranteed featured.
The same Encrypted Master Tape pulls both of these banners, but the pity counters for the character banner and the W-Engine banner are tracked separately — pulling on one doesn't build pity on the other.
So the worst case to guarantee the featured Agent is at most 180 pulls: 90 to hit an S-rank but lose the 50/50, then up to 90 more for the guaranteed one.
Key for new players: your pull count and guarantee state (owing a win after a lost 50/50) carry over when the banner rotates to a new Agent. If you're 80 pulls in with no S-rank, or you're owed a guarantee, the next limited banner continues from there instead of resetting to zero.
Base S-rank rate is 0.6% per pull, with a guaranteed A-rank at least every 10 pulls. Community data puts the soft-pity ramp at around pull 75.
Boopon: Bangboo only
Boopon is its own ticket that only pulls the Bangboo Channel. The big difference: the Bangboo banner has no 50/50. You pick the S-rank Bangboo you want before pulling, and when an S-rank drops it's guaranteed to be that one. Hard pity is 80 pulls.
Important: you can't buy Boopon with Polychrome. It's earned free from daily commissions, story missions, events and more, so Bangboos never cost you gacha currency.
How to get master tapes free
You can farm tickets steadily without spending:
- Master Tape: promoting an Agent to level 10 / 30 / 50 gives 1 each; every 5 Inter-Knot levels gives 2; finishing a Trial on the Primer gives more.
- Encrypted Master Tape: clear limited-time events (every patch) and login events (logging in 7 days over an update can grant up to 10 encrypted tapes).
- Signal Shop trade: 20 Residual Signals (earned from A-rank-or-higher duplicates) exchange for 1 Master Tape.
Any ticket can also be bought for 160 Polychrome each (except Boopon).
Which ticket to spend first?
New players should funnel Polychrome into Encrypted Master Tape to pull the limited Agent you want — that's the strongest, meta-defining roster. Save the Master Tape (standard) banner for free tickets or when no limited banner interests you. Just spend Boopon freely on a support Bangboo that fits your team, since it costs no Polychrome.
