Quick verdict

Worth building: one of the strongest and most consistent single-target carries right now, with a smooth combo that's easy to play once you get the Quick Assist rhythm down. Points to note: her W-Engine pool outside her signature is pretty thin, and she wants Astra Yao to reach her ceiling — without a good buffer, her damage drops noticeably.

Stat targets

Level 60 targets: WITH her signature Heartstring Nocturne → aim ATK ~3,000 / panel Crit Rate ~75% / Crit DMG 150%+; WITHOUT it → ATK ~2,500 / panel Crit Rate ~55% / Crit DMG 160%+. The key threshold: IN-COMBAT Crit Rate must be >=80% to unlock her Additional Ability 'Ambush Point' (raises her Chain/Ultimate damage multiplier to 125%). Since her Core Skill (Binding Seal) grants up to +25% Crit Rate in combat, you only need ~55% Crit Rate from engine + discs to reach 80%. Substat priority: Crit Rate (to ~80% in combat) > Crit DMG (150-160%) > ATK% > flat ATK.

Rotation & combos

1) OPENER: enter and press EX Special to gain the Binding Seal state (self Crit Rate buff); her wire pulls enemies together. 2) Basic-attack to fill the Burning Embers gauge; at >=50% HOLD Basic to release the enhanced 'Garrote' attack → each grants 1 Burning Tether Point. 3) LOOP: repeat until 3 Burning Tether Points, then hold to unleash her Chain Attack (Lunalux Garrote) — this Chain does NOT require the enemy to be Stunned/Broken. 4) Fire the Ultimate (Lunalux Garrote - Timbre) to enter 'Dance of the Awakened Fire': afterward she always keeps 1 Tether Point ready and chains far faster. 5) Weave quick-swaps to cancel animations; when you swap Evelyn back in she auto-fires her Special (follow-up + enemy grouping), then repeat from step 2.

Pros
  • A Chain Attacker that needs no Stun/Break: her Chain works anytime, so she ramps damage fast and isn't tied to the enemy's stun window.
  • Highly self-sufficient: her Core grants up to +25% Crit Rate and self-buffs damage; her Chain has long invincibility frames, making her very hard to interrupt.
  • Groups mobs and closes gaps: her wire pulls enemies together and her auto-attack on swap-in lets her handle crowds and stitch combos — rare for an Attacker.
  • High floor and high ceiling : easy to get value even when not mastered, yet very rewarding once you learn her long combos.
Cons
  • Heavily reliant on her signature Heartstring Nocturne: her off-signature W-Engine pool is weak, and swapping off it drops damage by up to ~23%.
  • Stat-hungry: she must hit >=80% in-combat Crit Rate to unlock her Additional Ability's 125% multiplier — demanding disc RNG and Crit farming.
  • Wants premium partners: to peak she wants Astra Yao + Lighter (both limited); F2P alternatives are clearly worse, on-field time is long, and her combos need precise timing.

Endgame mode fit

Shiyu Defense

Excellent in Shiyu Defense: a Fire hypercarry that bursts single targets via Chain/Ult while her wire groups mobs, so she clears both bosses and crowds within the timer; the standard Evelyn + Lighter (stun) + Astra Yao (buff) is one of the version's strongest star-clearing teams.

Deadly Assault

Strong in Deadly Assault: tanky bosses are the perfect stage for her high, consistent Chain/Ult burst; paired with Lighter + Astra Yao for stun and buffs she regularly posts top scores. Caveat: peaking still needs that premium buffer duo.

Mindscapes — how far is worth it?

M1 Dreamweave Worth it

Upon entering the battlefield, Evelyn immediately gains 1500 Decibels. Enemies affected by Binding Seal will be Bound. When Evelyn attacks Bound enemies, she ignores 12% of their DEF. When Evelyn uses Special Attack: Binding Sunder - First Form or EX Special Attack: Binding Sunder - Final Form, the Bound effect spreads to all enemies hit by the skill. This spread Bound effect lasts for 10s. The distant, blurred light seemed to be a dream she had crafted, an unreachable future. It wasn't about atonement, but a yearning for freedom. "You want it too, don't you? A real life." An anonymous former coworker once asked Evelyn.

M2 Dance of Fire Situational

Evelyn's ATK increases by 15%. When Evelyn uses Basic Attack: Garrote - First Form or Basic Attack: Garrote - Second Form, the Burning Embers consumed will be returned. This effect can trigger once every 25s. When Evelyn consumes Burning Tether Point to trigger Chain Attack: Lunalux - Snare, the skill's Interrupt Level increases. "To me, that light was unfamiliar, something I should have steered clear of, but it broke through every barrier, as though it was trying to remind me that beyond the darkness, there was something worth chasing." When Evelyn recalls the first time she met Astra Yao, there's a rare softness in her tone.

M3 Metamorphosis Low value

Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2. At that moment, she frees herself from her restraints and becomes her truest self. The tightened ropes snap, and the chains turn into a broken cocoon. Evelyn stands at the boundary of rebirth, and in her cold, sharp gaze, there is the flicker of a faint, soft glow.

M4 Fate's Melody Situational

Upon activating a Chain Attack or Ultimate, Evelyn immediately gains a shield equal to 10% of her Max HP. While this shield exists, Evelyn's CRIT DMG increases by 40%. "You know, Eve? Every time I meet someone important to me, my heart goes 'thump-thump!'" Evelyn sighs, signaling that it was getting late. Astra quickly fastens the back of her gown and rushed out the door. "Thump thump," Evelyn mutters to herself, left alone in the dressing room.

M5 Crimson Threads Like the Dawn Low value

Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2. Her threads, dyed crimson like the clouds at dawn. After each attack, she spins elegantly, blazing flames scattering like the morning light. No words are needed — Evelyn's protection has turned into a radiant flame.

M6 Bond of Light and Shadow Worth it

When activating her Chain Attack or Ultimate, Evelyn gains Shadowstring Edge for 20s. During Shadowstring Edge, when Evelyn hits enemies with a Basic Attack, Dash Attack, Special Attack, or EX Special Attack, an additional Lunalux Garrote will be released for a follow-up attack, dealing Fire DMG equal to 375% of Evelyn's ATK. This DMG is considered Chain Attack DMG and can trigger up to 16 times. The number of triggers will be refreshed each time Shadowstring Edge is gained. Where there is light, there will always be shadow. It silently hides, tracing the light's path, guarding each bright burst. The shadow never tries to steal the light's brilliance, but at every turn, it quietly fills those corners the light cannot reach. The two have never been separated, nor can they be — light is whole because of shadow, and shadow exists because of light. It's an eternal pursuit, an unspeakable connection.

Background & Lore

Evelyn is the manager and personal bodyguard of Ridu's most iconic singer, Astra Yao. Known for her calm, decisive decision-making and professional, efficient style, she's an irreplaceable pillar behind Astra. "In terms of commercial value, if Astra Yao represents the 1, then Evelyn is all the 0s that follow," a reporter from an entertainment magazine stated. Evelyn is skilled at planning comprehensive schedules and product endorsements, while also ensuring Astra Yao's safety during any unexpected situations. "Want to get close to Astra Yao? You'll have to get past Evelyn Chevalier first..." Though she's always busy with work, Evelyn never seems overwhelmed, and she has an almost obsessive attention to detail, ensuring that every performance and every product endorsement goes through her strict scrutiny. But strangely, such an exceptional manager is not trusted by her parent company, Odeum HAE. Intel: Evelyn's role seems to go beyond just being a manager and personal bodyguard; there seems to be an "organization" behind her. It seems a lot of people in Astra Yao's central Astranauts group ship them together. Increase Trust to Close to unlock more Information about the "organization" Evelyn is affiliated with is scarce. Currently, it is only known that she was brought into the "organization" at a young age, where she underwent harsh training and developed skills to make quick decisions and carry out tasks in any environment. While these experiences have left numerous hidden scars on her, they also gave her remarkable abilities and composure. Consideration: We need to look into what kind of "organization" it actually is.

More unlocks as Trust with this character increases in-game.

How to read this build page

Every Agent build page has 4 parts: a stat table by level, W-Engine/Drive Disc suggestions, a Mindscape roadmap, and recommended teams. Read them in that order — stats tell you "what you need", gear tells you "where to get it", Mindscape tells you "is it worth pulling", teams tell you "who to pair with". The section below explains how to read each part, and it applies the same way to every character on the site.

How to read the stat table and level

The stat table shows values at the ascension breakpoints (usually the final one, e.g. Lv60) — these are BASE stats with no gear added, useful for comparing Agents or checking whether you've ascended far enough. CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG are shown separately because they set the damage ceiling once Drive Disc substats stack on top. If your real stats are lower than the table, you likely haven't fully ascended or leveled yet — it's not a build mistake.

Why the W-Engine and Drive Disc picks make sense

Most Agents have a "signature" W-Engine designed for their exact role, plus a few cheaper standard-banner substitutes. Missing the signature isn't a dead end — most Agents keep most of their power with a well-matched substitute, just short by some amount of total damage.

  • Drive Disc sets (2pc + 4pc) are picked for the set effect that fits that Agent's playstyle (mono-element, Anomaly, stun, and so on).
  • Substats follow a priority that changes by role: Attack-type Agents usually chase CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG before ATK%; Anomaly-type Agents add Anomaly Proficiency to that mix; Stun/Support roles often value survivability or energy stats over pure CRIT.

These weights differ per character — follow the exact substat priority table above rather than applying one formula to every role.

Is Mindscape worth chasing

General rule: M0 (no duplicates) already clears the game's hardest content, even for S-rank Agents. Mindscape is a duplicate-fueled upgrade system, and each level costs more resources for a smaller power gain. For most Agents, the best value stop is usually M1–M2 (where some key effects unlock), while M6 is almost always for players chasing the absolute ceiling, not a requirement. Check the Mindscape section in the table above for that specific Agent's numbers.

Skill priority by role

There's no single order for every Agent, but the general pattern by role is:

  • Attack: level the main damage skill first (Basic or Special Attack depending on kit), Dash/Dodge last.
  • Stun: prioritize whichever skill builds Daze/Stun fastest, since the stun window is where the whole team dumps damage.
  • Support: prioritize buff or energy-generating skills over personal damage — this role's value comes from lifting the whole team.
  • Anomaly: prioritize the skill that stacks anomaly buildup, since most of the damage comes from the triggered effect, not the direct hit.

Always level the Core Skill steadily alongside the rest — it's a baseline stat that affects the whole rotation, not just one move.

Evelyn FAQ

What is the best W-Engine for Evelyn?

Evelyn performs best with Heartstring Nocturne. See alternatives and required stats in the Gear section above.

Is Evelyn worth pulling?

Worth building: one of the strongest and most consistent single-target carries right now, with a smooth combo that's easy to play once you get the Quick Assist rhythm down. Points to note: her W-Engine pool outside her signature is pretty thin, and she wants Astra Yao to reach her ceiling — without a good buffer, her damage drops noticeably.

What is the best team for Evelyn?

Evelyn works best in the Standard Fire team. Full members and rotation are in the Teams section.

Who voices Evelyn in Zenless Zone Zero?

Evelyn (faction Stars of Lyra, birthday Oct 7) is voiced according to the official credits published on the HoYoverse Wiki. See the full English/Japanese/Korean/Chinese voice actor list in the "Voice Actors & Character Info" block above — this data is pulled directly from the official wiki, not guessed.

Which Mindscape of Evelyn is worth investing in?

Evelyn has 6 Mindscape tiers (M1-M6), each unlocking its own effect detailed in the "Mindscape" block above (official wording). Mindscapes cost Mindscape Cinema currency farmed from limited banners, so weigh it against your budget — F2P players usually stop at M0-M1 and prioritize W-Engine and Drive Discs before pushing Mindscape higher.

How much Denny and how many materials to level Evelyn to Lv60?

Leveling Evelyn to max Lv60 (ascension + basic skills to 12 + core skill A→F) costs roughly 1,706,000 Denny, plus role-specific ascension materials, attribute-specific skill chips, high-dimensional data, and weekly boss drops — see the full list with exact quantities in the "Materials Needed" block above, sourced from the game's official leveling tables.
