ZZZ W-Engine Pity Explained — Soft Pity, 80 Guarantee & 75/25 | Zenless Zone Zero
In Zenless Zone Zero, the W-Engine banner has its OWN pity, fully separate from the Agent banner. You are guaranteed an S-rank W-Engine within 80 pulls (hard pity), with a 1% base S-rank rate. When you hit an S-rank, there's a 75% chance it's the featured W-Engine; lose that 75/25 and your next S-rank is a guaranteed featured one.
What "separate pity" means: W-Engine is independent
The single most important point: the W-Engine banner keeps its own pity counter. Pulls you make on the Agent banner do not add to your W-Engine pity, and vice versa. The two counters are completely separate.
So if you're 70 pulls deep on the character banner, your W-Engine pity still starts at 0. Budget your Polychrome for each banner on its own.
The 80 hard pity and S-rank rates
The base chance for an S-rank W-Engine is 1% per pull — higher than the Agent banner's 0.6%. Even on a dry streak you are guaranteed an S-rank W-Engine on pull 80. That's the hard pity.
- Base S-rank rate: 1%
- Hard pity: 80 pulls
- Cost: 160 Polychrome or 1 Encrypted Master Tape per pull
There's also a soft pity: per community tracking, S-rank odds spike from around pull 65, so most players hit their S-rank before reaching 80.
The 75/25 split and its guarantee
When you land an S-rank W-Engine, it isn't automatically the featured one. The split is 75/25:
- 75%: you get the featured W-Engine.
- 25%: you get a standard S-rank W-Engine (a "loss").
The good part: if you fall into the 25%, your next S-rank is a 100% guaranteed featured W-Engine. This guarantee is friendlier than the Agent banner's 50/50, making W-Engines far less painful to secure.
How much to guarantee the featured W-Engine?
Worst case: you hit pity at 80 but lose the 25%, then hit pity at 80 again. The maximum is 160 pulls to guarantee the featured W-Engine.
In resources: 160 × 160 = 25,600 Polychrome, or 160 Encrypted Master Tapes. In practice, thanks to soft pity around 65, most players spend noticeably less than this ceiling.
- 1Pull To 80First hard pity, guarantees one S-rank W-Engine
- 2Lose The 25%You get a standard one, not featured
- 3Pull 80 More TimesSecond hard pity: 100% featured, max 160 pulls
Should you pull the W-Engine?
Because progress here is best treated per-banner (the pity and 75/25 state apply to W-Engine banners, but the featured W-Engine rotates each version), pull only after you own the Agent who uses it. Prioritize the character first, then the W-Engine if you have resources to spare.
A matching S-rank W-Engine is a clear damage boost, but for F2P (free-to-play) players a well-suited A-rank W-Engine is usually strong enough for most content.
FAQ
Does W-Engine pity share with the Agent banner?
No. The W-Engine and Agent banners have entirely separate pity counters. Pulling on one does not build pity on the other.
When does W-Engine soft pity start?
Per community tracking, S-rank odds ramp up from around pull 65, earlier than the Agent banner. This is a community-measured figure, not an official number.
If I lose the 75/25, do I miss the featured W-Engine?
You don't miss it. After a loss (25%), your next S-rank is a 100% guaranteed featured W-Engine, so within 160 pulls you'll secure it.
