3-Weapon System Explained
Why every combatant plays up to 3 different ways depending on the weapon equipped — and how to pick.
Every combatant can equip up to three different weapon types out of the game's 12 weapon-type pool, and their active skill kit changes based on which weapon is currently equipped — so one character can function as roughly three distinct playstyles depending on loadout. This is the system that most separates 7DS: Origin from generic gacha ARPGs, so it's worth understanding before judging any unit off a single weapon.
The core concept
Think of each combatant as owning a fixed personality (stats, passive traits, ultimate) but a swappable "job" layer on top: whichever of their up-to-3 unlocked weapon types is equipped determines their active skill set for that fight. Swapping weapons outside of battle effectively reshapes how the character is played, without changing who they are.
Why this matters for team-building
Because weapon choice reshapes the skill kit, the same character can potentially fill different team roles on different weapons (for example leaning more offensive on one weapon and more supportive on another). Before assuming a team needs a specific new character, check whether re-equipping an existing one's alternate weapon covers the gap instead.
Choosing a weapon for the fight ahead
Match the weapon to the fight's demand rather than a fixed favorite: a boss fight that punishes slow setup calls for a more immediate-damage weapon, while a long farming stage may reward a weapon with better sustain or crowd-control utility. Since exact per-weapon skill effects aren't catalogued here yet, test each unlocked weapon in-game against the content you're facing before locking in a build.
Weapons vs gear: which to prioritize
Weapon choice changes what skills you have, while gear changes how strong those skills hit — they solve different problems. If a character feels unplayable, try a different weapon first (it's free to test); if the character feels correct but underpowered, that's when to invest in gear.
