Genshin Impact Resin Guide: 200 Cap, Regen Rate, Condensed/Fragile/Transient Resin Explained

Reflects patch 6.7 (2026-07-06) — the meta store re-ranks every patch, never edited by hand.
Quick answer
Original Resin caps at 200 and regenerates 1 point every 8 minutes — a full refill from empty takes roughly 26-27 hours. Regular domains (talent books, weapon materials, artifacts) cost 20 Resin, world bosses/elites cost 40, and Trounce Domains (weekly bosses) are a special case: 30 Resin for your first 3 clears each week, then 60 after that. There are 3 ways to 'bank' Resin — Condensed (converts resin you already have for double rewards), Fragile and Transient Resin (instantly refill 60, and can even push you past the 200 cap) — scroll down for exactly when to use each.

What Resin is, the true max cap, and the exact regen rate

Original Resin is the limited "energy" that gates how many times you can claim rewards from most daily farming content — running out doesn't stop you from playing, it just stops the rewards. Since the cap increase, the current maximum is 200 Resin (not the old 160), regenerating steadily at 1 point every 8 minutes whether you're online or offline.

  • A full refill from 0 to 200 takes roughly 26-27 hours (200 × 8 minutes ÷ 60).
  • Resin simply stops regenerating once it hits 200 — letting it sit capped for too long wastes that regen for good, arguably worse than losing a 50/50.
  • There's no permanent way to raise this 200 cap (it has nothing to do with your AR or World Level).

Since Resin is precious, check which character or weapon is actually worth farming for on our Genshin tier list before you burn it on the wrong domain.

What Resin is spent on: the full cost breakdown by content type

Not all content costs the same amount of Resin — mixing these up is exactly why Resin feels like it "evaporates" so fast:

  • Domains (talent books / weapon materials / artifacts): 20 Resin per run.
  • Ley Line Outcrops (ore deposits/character EXP material blossoms out in the open world): 20 Resin or 1 Condensed Resin.
  • Regular world bosses/elites (not weekly bosses): 40 Resin per claim.
  • Trounce Domains (weekly bosses like Andrius, Childe, Azhdaha, Dvalin): 30 Resin for your first 3 claims each week, jumping to 60 Resin from the 4th claim onward.
  • Local Legends (regular bosses that respawn daily): completely free, no Resin cost.

Condensed, Fragile, and Transient Resin: what's different, and when to use each

These 3 "special" Resin types are the most confusing part of the whole system, since they all involve "converting" or "refilling" Resin, but each works completely differently:

  • Condensed Resin: converts 40 Original Resin you already have + 1 Crystal Core + 100 Mora into a single item, stockpileable up to 5 at once. Using it on a domain gives you double rewards in one run — but it does NOT work on Trounce Domains (weekly bosses). Since it requires 40 banked Resin to make, it's a "stop Resin from overflowing" tool, not a Resin-refill tool.
  • Fragile Resin: using one instantly restores 60 Resin (and can temporarily push you past the 200 cap), or can be redeemed directly for triple domain rewards in a single run. You get these from Events, Adventure Rank level-ups, and the Battle Pass (Sojourner's Battle Pass/Gnostic Hymn gives 1 every 10 levels starting at level 5) — you can't buy these directly with real money or Mora.
  • Transient Resin: also restores 60 Resin, purchasable at the Realm Depot inside your Serenitea Pot for 1,200 Realm Currency per week, refreshing weekly. The key thing to remember: it expires after 1-2 weeks counted from the following Monday after purchase (varies by which promotion added it), and Realm Currency is NOT refunded if you let one expire unused — buy it, use it or convert it soon.

Short version: Condensed saves Resin you already have; Fragile/Transient pump extra Resin in from nothing. Check which team comp actually uses the character you're farming Resin for on our Genshin team guide.

Adventure Rank milestones directly tied to Resin

Adventure Rank (AR) isn't just a display number — it directly decides what you're even allowed to spend Resin on:

  • AR12: unlocks the entire Domain system and Daily Commissions (Daily Commissions cost no Resin at all, just time — 4 random ones a day).
  • AR45: unlocks the highest-tier artifact domains — guaranteeing at least one 5★ piece per 20 Resin spent there, which is when farming artifacts actually becomes worth it (see when to stop farming on our artifact guide).
  • AR60: the current max AR, paired with World Level 9 — it doesn't change your Resin cap or regen speed, but it does raise the quality/difficulty of what domains drop.

In short: below AR45, burning Resin on artifact domains is often wasted effort since 5★ odds are much lower — prioritize talent book/weapon domains instead until you hit that milestone.

The weekly day rotation for talent book and weapon material domains

Not every talent book or weapon material domain is open every day — they're split into 3 rotating groups by day of the week (this applies separately to both the talent book domains and the weapon material domains):

  • Group 1: open Monday & Thursday.
  • Group 2: open Tuesday & Friday.
  • Group 3: open Wednesday & Saturday.
  • Sunday: ALL groups are open at once — the best day to catch up on whatever books/materials you missed farming during the week.

Tip: before spending 20 Resin on a domain, check which group is open today so you're farming the right material for the character/weapon you're actually upgrading — don't walk in only to find the wrong material. Check what each weapon needs on our Genshin weapon list.

Smart Resin spending strategy by game stage

Because Resin is limited, spending it in the wrong order is one of the easiest mistakes to make, especially for newer players — here's a sensible priority order:

  • Always claim your 3 discounted Trounce Domain runs first: 30 Resin each is a much better deal than the 60 Resin that follows — don't let a week go by without using all 3 discounted claims.
  • New/mid-game players: prioritize talent book and weapon material domains on the correct day of the week for the team you're actively building (check team suggestions on our Genshin team guide) before worrying about artifacts.
  • From AR45 onward: that's when it makes sense to dump most Resin into artifact domains — and stop as soon as a build is "good enough" (correct main stat + enough ER) so you can move Resin to the next character instead of chasing one perfect piece.
  • About to be away/busy for a few days: convert spare Resin into Condensed Resin (up to 5) as soon as you have 40 to spare, so it doesn't sit capped and go to waste while you're offline.
  • Near a major update/double-reward event: hold onto Fragile/Transient Resin and pop them right when rewards are doubled or tripled, rather than the moment you get them.

Pairing this priority order with which characters actually matter on our Genshin tier list makes your daily 200 Resin translate into maximum build progress instead of being wasted on the wrong domain at the wrong time.

FAQ

If my Resin hits 200 and I don't spend it, do I lose the extra?
You don't lose what you already have, but Resin simply STOPS regenerating once it hits 200 — every 8-minute tick you miss while capped is permanently wasted, it doesn't stack up for later. The only way to 'rescue' Resin past the cap is to use Fragile/Transient Resin to temporarily push it above 200, or convert spare Resin (40 or more) into Condensed Resin before you hit the cap.
Which should I use first: Condensed, Fragile, or Transient Resin?
Use Transient Resin first if you have any, since it comes with an expiration date (expire it and it's gone, no refund) — use or convert it before the 1-2 week window closes. Fragile Resin is more flexible since it doesn't carry that same short expiration pressure, so it's fine to save for a double/triple-reward window. Create Condensed Resin as soon as you have 40 spare Resin about to hit the 200 cap, since it's essentially temporary storage rather than something that expires on its own like the other two.
Should I farm artifact domains before reaching AR45?
No, don't dump serious Resin into it yet — before AR45, artifact domains open at a lower level with noticeably worse 5★ odds than the 'guaranteed every 20 Resin' rate you get at AR45+, so your Resin-to-results ratio is poor. The AR30-44 range is fine for learning the mechanics (main stats, set bonuses) through a few practice runs, but shouldn't be treated as real farming yet — prioritize Resin on talent book/weapon domains instead for faster overall power growth.
Do Daily Commissions cost Resin?
No. Daily Commissions unlock at AR12, giving you 4 random tasks per day, and completing them only costs your time/movement — no Resin deduction at all. They're a free source of Primogems/Mora/items, so it's worth doing them every day before even thinking about domains. Resin is only spent when you actually CLAIM rewards at a Domain, Ley Line Outcrop, or Boss (regular or weekly).
As a new player with limited Resin, what should I spend it on first?
Prioritize in this order: (1) the 3 discounted 30-Resin Trounce Domain claims if you have a weekly boss whose materials you need for talent upgrades, (2) talent book/weapon domains on their correct day for whichever main character you're currently building, (3) only start thinking about artifacts once you hit AR45. Don't spread Resin thin across too many characters at once — concentrate it on 1-2 main characters to get a clear power spike first; check who's actually worth prioritizing on our Genshin tier list.
