Lore
VisionVisions are external magical foci that resemble the gods of Celestia and the Seven Archons' favor. It allows its bearer to control one of the elements of Pyro, Hydro, Cryo, Anemo, Geo, Electro, and Dendro. A Vision can materialize a person's elemental power. For example, Oz was created when Fischl received her Vision. The seven elemental types are connected to the Seven Sovereigns — elemental dragons and true rulers of Teyvat. When the First usurper defeated the dragons, they stole the dragon's authority. Later, the usurper was wounded in the Great War of Vengeance and could no longer use their absolute authority to suppress the original order of this world because their functions were ruined. They, along with the one who came after, created the Gnoses, one for each of the seven divine thrones. The stolen power became the basis of the Archons' authority, and the Visions that people receive are part of this authority. Whenever a person's wishes reached the heavens, the seven overseers of the material realm were duty-bound to grant them a gift (Vision). Though they might know nothing of who or what wish had stepped into the threshold of the sacred, the Seven Archons still had to impart a shattered shard of their mastery to that person.People marked by the attention of Celestia are named Allogenes, which is a secret that only Archons are privy to. They can ascend to Celestia and become Gods themselves. No one knows exactly about the process of obtaining the Vision: for many, it simply appears out of thin air, while others have revived the faded Vision, which had lost its owner. Thus, Kazuha was able to ignite the extinguished Vision of his late friend for a moment, when their desires coincided. Contrary to popular belief among people, the Archons do not give out Visions, but their receipt may be associated with the will of a person and the Archon's authority. Thus, after the Vision Hunt Decree in Inazuma, not a single Electro Vision was obtained. When the Dragon Sovereign Neuvillette fully restored his authority and set aside parts of himself, as like the dragon-treasure hoards of old, he left them awaiting valiant humans to come and claim them. The first one to receive a Vision during Neuvillette's reign was Furina. The Archons themselves do not need Visions, as they are endowed with their own elemental authority and often take energy from their Gnoses. However, some Archons use counterfeit visions, which are just glass keychains, so as not to stand out among people. Adepti of Liyue also don't need a Vision because of their "illumination" and light of a third "eye." They were born amongst the elemental energy that courses between heaven and earth. When Adepti, the pure elemental beings, take a human form, they use a Vision as a medium to harness elemental power to follow human rules.A Vision reflects the ideals, aspirations, and dreams of its bearer even after their death. That is why losing a Vision without an owner's will can lead to devastation, apathy, and amnesia. Visions have a strong connection with their owner, so for unknown reasons, the Traveler could see what was happening to Tartaglia when they were in possession of Tartaglia's Vision. Some people think that Visions stole pride originally due to them. Thus, Keqing left her Vision in a huge fire for three days and three nights, ran over it with a minecart full of rocks, and even hurled it from the heights of the Jade Chamber. She has never been successful. Although a Vision cannot be lost or destroyed, the owner can voluntarily give up their goals and their Vision. These people will not suffer the usual consequences. Such was the case when Diluc gave up his Vision, leaving Mondstadt after his father's death, but three years later he took it back. Itto, having lost a duel to Kujou Sara, also voluntarily gave up his Vision as a sign of defeat.Allogenes have different opinions on their Visions. Some people see them as an insult from the gods, and some use them to help people or on their job. Some don't care about their Visions, and others see Visions as God's approval of their actions, unlike the people without a Vision, who often feel that they are abandoned and forgotten by the Gods and that their actions go unnoticed.Related Entries:AppearanceA Vision is a round, diamond-shaped, or oval artifact bearing the symbol of the corresponding element. The framing of a Vision depends on the region where it was obtained. Some Visions have a unique appearance. For example, Kaeya's Vision differs from the usual Mondstadt Vision in the number of feathers. Aloy's Vision shape is different from all other Visions obtained in the seven regions of Teyvat. Since all residents of Fontaine possess Arkhe (the special power with which all mechanisms in Fontaine operate), this is reflected in the appearance of their Vision. People with Ousia have rounded elements at the top and bottom of their Visions. People with Pneuma have pointed elements at the top and bottom of their Visions, and the elements on the sides are mirror images of Ousia Visions. The only exception is Furina, whose Vision has both Ousia and Pneuma designs. After the death of the owner, the Vision fades and becomes white and cloudy. They are just masterless husks without any elemental power, and there's no method of reawakening them known, save for a tiny chance that it may resonate with another — and only one such "other" at a time.Related Entries:Elemental PowersVisions are not the only source of elemental power.• Elemental lifeforms can use powers of elements since their birth (Slimes, Fungi, Fontemer Aberrants, Cicins, Oceanids, Hypostases, Phantasms, Spectres, Eyes of the Storm, Elemental dragons).• Vishaps, which were born with the Hydro element, can manifest a form aligned with the Electro or Cryo elements due to certain social adaptations and special "seeds."• Some beasts, like Whopperflowers and Regisvines, absorb elemental power through the ley lines.• Some beasts mutated after feeding on greater lifeforms, becoming Consecrated Beasts and gaining the ability to manipulate elements.• Samachurls can command elements and use ancient magic scrolls to cast spells.• Hilichurls, Hilichurl Rogues, and Mitachurls use Electro crystals, Electro, Pyro, Dendro, Cryo, Hydro, or Anemo slimes, flammable substances, or unmelting ice.• The body of Lawachurls is imbued with the elements Electro, Cryo, or Geo.• Abyss Mages, Heralds, and Lectors are capable of utilizing elemental magic in the battle.• The Eremites use weapons that contain ominous, fragmented spirits, allowing them to use the power of the elements.• Hydro, Cryo, Pyro, Electro, Anemo, and Geo Skirmishers of Fatui use weapons and special equipment that, with the help of technological progress, allow the use of the elements.• Elite members of Fatui (including some Harbingers) use Delusions — a special artifact created using the remains of defeated Gods.
