500 years ago, the government of a godless nation broke the foundations of the world, causing the forces of the Abyss to invade Teyvat. The Heavenly Principles sent many Archons to Khaenri'ah to fight the Abyss, and Khaenri'ah was destroyed.All pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn were cursed with immortality, and the impure-bloods were transformed into monsters.A shadow dragon appeared in Mondstadt during the Cataclysm. He poisoned the land and brought death to the region. Durin was defeated by the Anemo Archon and the elemental dragon. Many warriors died in the fight with the Abyss.The Abyss had broken through in the Chasm, and the Milleliths and Yaksha went to fight the monsters. At the cost of their lives, Yaksha and the mortal Boyang sealed the monsters in the depths with the Fantastic Compass.The Electro Archon went to Khaenri'ah where she was slain. A lot of warriors died, and the land was corrupted. To cleanse the land of the filth, branches of the Sacred Sakura were broken off and planted, which collect corruption. Once every 60 years, a ritual is performed to cleanse the Sacred Sakura.The Dendro Archon was tasked with protecting against the forbidden knowledge. Rukkhadevata died due to the infection. A hollow formed in Tunigi, through which monsters of the Abyss entered. The Khaenri'ahn Marshal Regent, along with the Schwanenritter, defended Sumeru with the help of Ruin Golems because Khaenri'ah was located under Sumeru.A giant creature appeared in Fontaine during the Cataclysm, poisoning the water and land. Many people died in the battle with Elynas. When the creature realized that it was only causing destruction, it gave up and died. Due to the contamination of Fontaine's water, Egeria's familiars,, died out or left Fontaine.The Cataclysm started the decomposition of the Ley Lines in Natlan, which had already been damaged during the battle between the Heavenly Principles and the dragons. Some of the Khaenri'ahn warriors, including the First Fatui Harbinger Capitano, fought on Natlan's side against the Abyss.After the Cataclysm, Natlan had about 500 years left before the nation would be completely destroyed, so the Pyro Archon Mavuika created a plan to use the powers of the divine throne to destroy the Abyss when Natlan's time came.
