"People of the Springs"Theare a tribe living on the Natlan seashore alongside the Koholasaurs. The tribe was founded on a small island, but currents later transformed the landscape. This friendly tribe is passionate about music, parties, and hot springs. They live a carefree life, and some other tribes consider them lazy. The Meztli hot springs are rich in phlogiston and are believed to have the power to cure illnesses. Visitors come not only from all over Natlan but also from all over Teyvat. However, despite their popularity, using the hot springs can be dangerous for unprepared tourists. The high temperatures can cause burns or loss of consciousness. Slipping and falling on rocks is also common. Due to the location of the People of the Springs, the tribe is famous for its water sports: surfing, beach volleyball, diving, water polo, and parasailing. Moreover, the tribe members are Natlan's best guides and love to explore. Their work is similar to that of adventurers, but the People of the Springs' guides can explore lands with high temperatures or areas covered in liquid phlogiston with the help of Koholasaurs. Therefore, both members of other tribes and foreign tourists often hire Meztli guides to show them the shortest route or blaze a new trail. The People of the Springs' settlement is home to numerous shops selling sports equipment and music-related merchandise. People can buy vintage musical instruments and try them out at the Djembe Studios. Many tourists get caught up in the heat of the moment, buy an instrument, then wind up never playing it, so the shop owner, Anchieta, gives customers the opportunity to try out an instrument and buy it the next day. Not far from the Djembe Studio is Xochicuicatl Records, which sells music records. The shop also helps musicians organize the recording and sale of records. One of the famous People of the Springs' musicians is Milu Nui, whose collection of children's songs is a bestseller at Xochicuicatl Records. Although children and Saurian whelps enjoy his music, Milu Nui believes that his music is not at all for children and should be classified as popular music instead. Not far from the music store is Atlahua's Net, a store selling fishing tackle, jewelry, items for the Saurian companion, and all sorts of tools. The store also offers fishing rod repair services. The owner, Yelafath, is a certified player of the Genius Invocation TCG, who, despite living in the People of Springs, cannot stand the heat and stays awake at night. On the other side of the hot springs is the Golden Dusk restaurant, owned by the Nui family, whose mother runs it. Their son serves as the tribe's guide, and Mahina Nui, a certified player of the Genius Invokation TCG, serves as a waitress. Near the restaurant, a Melusine from Fontaine, interacting with a Koholasaurus whelp, can be encountered. She recorded her impressions of her journey through Natlan and sent them in a letter, and in return received a message from the Iudex of Fontaine, Neuvillette, where he urged her to wait for the hot spring water to cool before tasting it for herself. Not only is the water from the spring hot, but it is also bad for the stomach, so the Melusine teaches the Saurian not to drink it. The Saurian itself never saw a Melusine before, so it is more concerned about her appearance than about drinking the water. Besides the Melusine, a Tribal Secret Space can be found near the hot springs. It can be opened using three fragments of azure obsidian arranged in a ring, found scattered in the region's luxurious chests. The tribe's chief is Amina, who can be found atop the ship-shaped theater where the tribe stages grand performances during important festivals. Despite her young age, Amina is a responsible leader. Amina is highly intelligent and always full of brilliant ideas. She developed a battle preparation and defense facilities renovation plan, as well as her personnel deployment plan. One day, the Traveler and Paimon heard of a legend about a mysterious island and went to Amina to learn more about it. In exchange for answers, the chief asked for help in exposing scammers who, posing as guides to the mysterious island, were swindling tourists out of Mora. They operated very cunningly, and each of their transactions was framed as legitimate tourist services, making them difficult to prosecute. Amina provided the Traveler and Paimon with expenses so they could secretly collect evidence while posing as tourists. The Traveler and Paimon went to the usual meeting place for guides and began discussing the mysterious island in an attempt to uncover the scammers. A scammer overheard their conversation and spoke of the dangers lurking on the path to the legendary island. He claimed that although the clues were available to everyone, only experienced guides following the tribe's traditions could decipher them. Although the guide was willing to work for free, he forced the Traveler and Paimon to purchase special equipment and a photograph of a Koholosaurus, which would share a revelation, in order to reach the mysterious island. He forced them to spend more and more Mora, but when they collected enough evidence, it turned out that the ink on the receipts was disappearing, and all the merchants were operating under false names, making them impossible to find. When the guide attempted to escape, the chief of the People of the Springs and her guards barred his path. Amina had deliberately given the Traveler marked Mora so that all the scammers could be tracked. After searching the guide, the guards found Amina's Mora on him. Since the guide was supposed to work for free and had no receipts to prove the purchase, he could have been accused of theft. To avoid charges, the guide admitted his guilt, and the fraud case was solved. At the foot of the theater ship are musical groups, which always attract a large audience. Opposite the theater is another tribal landmark — an Obsidian Totem Pole, from which people can accept orders for monster bounties and deliveries to increase the reputation of the People of the Springs. On the other side of the ship is a sports equipment store called Leisurely Puffer, owned by Mualani, one of the six heroes of Natlan. Like Mualani, her parents are successful merchants who built a retail chain spanning Natlan and collaborate with foreign traders. As a child, Mualani asked her parents if she could help with the shops, but they suggested she try different activities to find her passion. She went on a trip, but often missed the salty scent of the breeze, so she returned home and took up water sports. The equipment she used often didn't satisfy her, so Mualani began learning how to modify its functionality and personalize it. More and more people became interested in her equipment, and thus, Leisurely Puffer was founded. The store now sells inflatable swimsuits, surfboards made of various materials, water skis, parasailing equipment, beach volleyballs, and much more.Opposite the Leisurely Puffer is a unique place ruled by the youkai, Mint Daifuku. Yumemizuki's Cozy Corner was opened by clinical psychologist and yumekui-baku, Yumemizuki Mizuki, who came from Inazuma. Yumekui-baku's specialized psychotherapy helps to expel the darkness from the soul, as well as relieve anxiety, sadness, worry, and confusion. Mizuki is also preparing to open a Natlan branch of the Aisa Bathhouse, where psychotherapy is offered. Mizuki and Mualani once developed a musical game called "Rhythm Ball." They combined the traditional Inazuma game Akitsu Haneasobi with Natlan pastimes, creating a game where participants had to bounce a ball and break blocks while keeping time to the rhythm of music. Natlan's heroine and DJ of the Children of Echoes, Xilonen, helped set up the Dance-Off Stage and even recorded her own record.Another festival Mualani helped organize was a joint dance festival featuring the Children of Echoes, the Flower-Feather Clan, the People of the Springs, and special guests from Sumeru. One day, the Natlanese were holding a barbecue at the southern edge of the Desert of Hadramaveth when they were suddenly attacked by a flock of ferocious red vultures. The vultures were cunning and exploited the terrain so skillfully that the Natlanese were forced to retreat, but a group of mercenaries appeared on their route and drove the vultures away with a mysterious war dance. The Natlanese befriended the Eremites and decided to hold a festival to keep the "dance exchange" going. The Eremites invited Nilou, a renowned dancer from the Zubayr Theater, to Natlan as a director and consultant on behalf of Sumeru. As a result of the event, Mualani and Nilou became so close, as if they had known each other for years, that they promised to visit each other more often. To the left of the People of the Springs' settlement lies a cave with hot springs, where the tribesmen once held a surprise for their elder, Atea. Several years ago, during a battle with the Abyss, Atea was wounded in the stomach by a monster. Doctors managed to save her life, but the power of the Abyss remained in her body, and they made it clear that she could never bathe in the hot springs again. Immersion in hot water would accelerate the corrosion of her internal organs, and the disease would progress. For a long time, she lived, regretting that her illness prevented her from being on the front lines when her tribe faced ever greater challenges, but then she realized her body couldn't withstand it much longer. She began going to the hot springs again, unseen, and fighting monsters alone. When Atea's friends noticed her visiting the springs, they assumed she was feeling better and threw a party in her honor. But in reality, Atea had resigned herself to her imminent death, and even when the Traveler attempted to cleanse her body of the Abyss's power, it ingrained itself deep within her organs, leaving her as fragile as a dry leaf in the wind. When Atea realized her life force was waning, she gave the talisman to her hot springs friend, the Pyro Archon, Mavuika, as she said it "embodies fond memories and my strength of will." Shortly after the Abyss launched a full-scale invasion of Natlan, Atea the Candlekeeper perished, and even in her final moments, she was thinking about protecting her tribe. To the north of the settlement lie ancient, abandoned ruins. It is said that the first sage to learn how to use phlogiston created a place of great purity, and that within this place, warriors were taught to wield the power of prismatic flames and flowing light. Later, even before they were used to resist common enemies, these powers were employed as weapons in conflicts between the tribes. Disheartened by this state of affairs, the Sage of the Stolen Flame withdrew from the world, vanishing from the pages of many tales. Devoid of their original purpose, these empty trial grounds were left behind, along with all those stories that came to be forgotten. Near the ruins, a Fatui agent, Balachko, can be found, access to whom is blocked by a locked gate.Related Entries:Ameyalco WatersThe Ameyalco Waters formed where springs meet the coast and are known for their slightly higher temperature compared to the surrounding coastal waters. This warmth is attributed to the magma chambers beneath. One of these magma chambers lies beneath ancient ruins, hidden underground. One day, the Traveler, Paimon, and their companion, Little One, explored these ruins, where they met a woman from the Masters of the Night-Wind who introduced herself as Chikya. In these ruins, she was searching for the "legendary elixir that heals all wounds" mentioned in a secret scroll. The woman had tried numerous remedies to cure her back, but none had worked, so she decided to seek out the secret treasure left by theAfter meeting Chikya, the Traveler, Paimon, and their companion agreed to join the search and descended to a cave filled with liquid phlogiston. In this cave, they discovered Phlogiston Engravings. The origin of Phlogiston Engraving comes from the days when Natlan was still ruled by a Pyro Dragon, who caused humanity to exist only in primitive tribes. In those days, only the dragons could use phlogiston. But the Sage of the Stolen Flame risked life and limb to steal a flaming seed of it from the great volcano. As such, humans began imitating the way dragons controlled the substance, creating a language by which humanity could exert that same control.Due to the Traveler being able to use phlogiston from their very first day in Natlan, they were able to read a Phlogiston Engraving that read, "If you wish to open this door, seek out an Unveiling Script." When they activated all the Unveiling Scripts and found all the Phlogiston Engravings, a Spiritway was revealed to them, leading to the islands floating above the Ameyalco Waters. The Natlanese call these islands thea pure land of peace, a utopia created by the very first human to use phlogiston. A compassionate sage once taught his great disciples the secret arts here, but for unknown reasons, this place was then hidden from all. According to legends recorded on woven scrolls, the elixir was supposed to be there and was a gift from the Sage of the Stolen Flame to those who passed the test in the cave. When Chikya and the others ascended to the Upper Sanctum and completed the Sage of the Stolen Flame's other trials, it turned out that what awaited them wasn't a magical elixir at all, but a special hot spring. Chikya knew about the spring and deliberately lured the Traveler and Paimon with the legend of the elixir, but she hoped that by bathing in it, she would gain the power to control phlogiston. And although the woman was from Natlan, where everyone knows how to use phlogiston, she did not possess this skill. As a child, Chikya suffered a serious injury related to the Abyss. She miraculously survived, but her health deteriorated significantly. And although she could not use phlogiston, she studied various scrolls and, through analysis of the drawings, discovered the method of Phlogiston Engraving. The woman taught the tribe's children the basics of phlogiston and hoped to have the chance to observe up close how her students were awakening their abilities to use it. She knew absolutely everything about phlogiston, and the more she learned, the more she regretted her inability to control it. During the Spiritway trial, Chikya noticed the Traveler's courage and decided that perhaps this lack of courage was the reason she had never learned to use phlogiston. Although Chikya again failed to find the "legendary elixir that heals all wounds," she decided to remain at the hot springs in the Upper Sanctum. To the east of the underground ruins stands a statue of the first chief of the People of the Springs. Every traveler or guide who wishes to search for the legendary, mysterious island must touch the monument before setting off and ask for the blessing of the ancestors to ensure the expedition's success. On this monument, the first chieftain left a secret message that only manifests in the volcanic dust found on the mysterious island. Not far from the ruins' entrance, on Jadeskirt Knoll, lies a Spiritway trial once established by the ancient dragons. This test can open the way to the legendary, mysterious island, and to begin it, the Phlogiston Nodes must be activated. Furthermore, an unusual Tent Tortoise, Cocijo, who wields the power of Electro, can be found there. Not far from Jadeskirt Knoll lies an underground cave containing a Secret Source Automaton, a claw-shaped manufacturing machine from the ancient ruins. This type of machine, which can transform into numerous shapes, was used by the masters of the ancient ruins to perform various manufacturing tasks, such as building a city within a volcano. The cores powering all Secret Source Automatons are believed to be the same kind of device, and that they simply carry different information, as attested to by the fact that the golden patterns on them are different. At first, the many commands were only added to the circuits to aid in their smooth running, but it seems that all the superimposition and layering of orders onto one another has wound up creating a rudimentary artificial intelligence. In addition, with the help of Phlogiston Engravings, this machine can engage in battle based on its preset instructions. To the west of Toyac Springs, on the very border with Coatepec Mountain, is the entrance to the Secret Source Ruins of the ancient dragons. The ancient dragons tried to use this device to strengthen the Ley Lines by imbuing them with power, but they lacked the skills to navigate the intricate structure of the Ley Lines. Millennia later, the Fatui Harbinger, Capitano, sought to use the device again, but restoring the Ley Lines would destroy all memory stored within them. To buy themselves time, the Fatui sealed the entrance to the ruins with a special mechanism and a Masters of the Night-Wind's spell. The Pyro Archon Mavuika set out with the Traveler and the main Natlan's Ancient Names engraver to stop Capitano and deactivate the Source Mechanism. After solving the riddle at the sealed entrance, they were able to reach the Source Mechanism, but it was already activated. Although it was stopped, the device's activation awakened the Night Lord, the ancient angel who created the Night Kingdom. The Lord of the Night was willing to restore the Natlan's Ley Lines at the cost of her life to help the people, but the Pyro Archon refused. The device's energy allowed the Lord of the Night to remain conscious for a while, so she remained to await the Natlanese's decision. In the south of Ameyalco Waters are picturesque areas inhabited by wild Koholasaurs. One day, while strolling there, Paimon invited the Traveler to take a photo with a Koholasaurus, but their attention was drawn to cries for help. When the Traveler came to the people's aid and drove off the Koholasaurs, the people revealed that they were scholars from Sumeru searching for the mysterious island of the People of the Springs. The scholars later joined the Traveler's expedition group and together set out to search for the legendary island. Not far from where the Traveler and Paimon first met the scholars, a member of the People of the Springs named Rongo decided to set up a surfing training ground to ignite the tribesmen's spirit of competition. The ground Rongo had prepared was favored by the Flowcurrent Birds, so when he asked the Traveler to take a surfing test, they had to chase them away first. After completing the test, Rongo found the ground too ordinary and sought to use the deactivated Spirit Doors. Behind the training ground, an inscription was discovered on the mountain: "...Tinilao of the Meztli leaves this inscription, that the Spiritscripts may not become blocked… Separate the Phlogiston Engravings into differently-colored shells and attach said shells to the..." After collecting three Shiny Shells nearby, the Traveler and Paimon restored the Iridescent Inscription and activated the Spirit Doors. Now, any resident of the People of the Springs can go to the training ground to take the surfing test.To the left of Rongo's training area, Pania and her Koholasaurus, Iwai, who often came to the shore to play, can be found. One day, the Flowcurrent Birds overtook them and occupied the shore near the water. Pania tried to lure the birds out of the water with fish, but they wouldn't budge. The Traveler managed to move the birds toward the shore so they could smell the fish, and Iwai and Pania were able to play in the water again.North of Toyac Springs, at the intersection with Coatepec Mountain, grazing Alpacas, watched over by a shepherd and a Yumkasaurus, can be found. One day, the Traveler, Paimon, and their Tepetlisaurus companion were wandering through this area, and Little One wanted to befriend the Alpacas, but they refused to play with him, and the Yumkasaurus guarding them attacked the Traveler. After the shepherd calmed the Saurian, she explained that she had delegated her duties to it, so she could now enjoy a happy life and sleep after lunch. Deciding to look for other Alpacas nearby, Little One discovered a scaredy-cat Alpaca wearing a hat stuck on the mountainside. When the Traveler and Little One helped the scaredy-cat Alpaca up the mountain and brought it to the shepherd, she, in gratitude, gave them a Wooden Model Alpaca, which they erected at a rest area in Tequemecan Valley. In the very north of Toyac Springs lies the Spiritwall Cave, where many treasures can be found. To enter this cave, the hidden mechanism in the Basin of Unnumbered Flames must be imbued with phlogiston, and the stone floor above the cave should be smashed. Inside, a wall with unfinished graffiti can be found. To complete the graffiti and obtain the treasure, seven Monetoo must be imbued with phlogiston and returned to the wall. This graffiti was left by a Natlanese trapped in a cave by a fallen rock. He dedicated his life to creating paintings from Phlogiston Engravings and spent ten-odd years creating such graffiti. However, he was never able to complete his final painting because he ran out of phlogiston.South of the Spiritwall Cave is an unfinished painting of Koholasaurs. A Broken, Graffiti-Marked Stone can be obtained by bringing another Koholasaurus to the painting and completing it. These stones open a secret passage to treasures beneath Coatepec Mountain. In this location, the World Quest Series and World Quests and can be found.
Lore
Hanan PachaOver the thousands of years of Waxaklahun Ubah Kan's life, his true origins were erased from people's memories, and his name was overgrown with fairy tales. According to one of these tales, when dragons ruled the earth and the Night Kingdom was submissive to the Lord of the Night, people wandered the barren lands. But one day, a mortal man, Waxaklahun Ubah Kan, brought the kindling of phlogiston from the red and black land, and people finally had the opportunity to resist wild beasts and fell dragons. At that time, a winged dragon lived on the black and red lands, who was the scion of Xiuhcoatl, the great lord of the volcano. Among those treasures, one of the most striking was known as "Pyrophosphorite." It was a crystal refined from the primal fire in the depths of the great volcano, and its color was that of an ever-shifting rainbow, shining with dazzling light. Perhaps the dragon's vanity angered the Lord of the Night, and he sent the Sage Waxaklahun Ubah Kan to defeat the dragon. And to be sure, he sent the fool, Chaac, with the Sage. Under the protection of the Lord of the Night, the two reached the black and red lands, and the sage wounded the dragon in the eye with a shot from a bamboo blowdart. Even being blind in one eye, the dragon was still incredibly strong, so Waxaklahun Ubah Kan came up with a far-sighted plan.Disguised as healers, Waxaklahun Ubah Kan and Chaac entered the dragon's cave and offered to replace his wounded eye, fangs, and wings with bright gems. The vain dragon couldn't help but imagine how beautiful he would be if he shone a hundred times brighter, and he agreed without hesitation. Then, the Sage and Chaac took out the grainfruit they had earlier prepared and replaced the eyes, fangs, and claws of the winged dragon with them. Thus, the dragon died in a daze, and the Pyrophosphorite fell into the hands of Waxaklahun Ubah Kan. By breaking the Pyrophosphorite into pieces, the Sage released the power of the dragons, known as "Phlogiston."Leaving the black and red lands, the wise Waxaklahun Ubah Kan and the fool Chaac went to the land of forests and mountains, where human tribes lived. Waxaklahun Ubah Kan wished to pass on the power to use phlogiston to humans, but none wished to learn from him because the people didn't know what benefit phlogiston would bring them. Seeing how upset the Sage was, Chaac offered to show people the benefits of phlogiston, for example, lifting a rock higher than the mountains. Then the Sage taught Chaac the power of dragons, and together they lifted the earth into the air. The land they raised became Hanan Pacha, the Upper Sanctum of which people today speak. Initially, Hanan Pacha was a single continent that rose so high in the sky that all the people of Natlan could see it from afar and came to satisfy their curiosity. The kind-hearted Chaac helped people rise to the Upper Sanctum with the help of phlogiston, and so people, under the leadership of Waxaklahun Ubah Kan, first permanently settled the tribe upon Hanan Pacha. The city had magnificent palaces and temples, all made of rare gems, brilliant feathers, and fragrant flowers. When work on the city was finished, Waxaklahun Ubah Kan decided to raise Hanan Pacha even higher and forbade people from eating anything produced by this land. They could only drink water that flowed from the Source of All Waters, not subject to the Lord of the Night's control. Although the people did not understand why it was necessary to raise the land even higher, they did as the Sage told them. The people began to raise fish in the blue expanse and grow ball algae for food. Hanan Pacha rose higher and higher day by day. Finally, the Lord of the Night realized the Sage's intentions. Fearing that all the people would leave, they pretended to be a man and brought a bottle of mysterious water to the tribe. Chaac tasted this water, which was sweeter than anything in the world, and shared it with everyone. When the Sage returned, the people had already become dead drunk. He knew that the people would no longer be able to leave Natlan, and he banished them from Hanan Pacha. The people scattered to all corners of Natlan and took the phlogiston with them, and the Sage of the Stolen Flame set out on the road home. When the path to the Upper Sanctum was cut off, a legend spread among people about the "legendary elixir that heals all wounds" — a gift from the Sage of the Stolen Flame. To get to the elixir, the Sage set a series of tests, including Spiritways and Unveiling Scripts. But even after passing all the tests, at the end of the path, people only see a hot spring with water.Related Entries:Mysterious IslandOne day, the Traveler and Paimon were exploring Ameyalco Waters and discovered a beautiful spot to take a photo with wild Koholasaurs. Their attention was drawn to cries for help. Rushing to the rescue, they found two scholars from the Sumeru Akademiya surrounded by wild Koholasaurs. Viramdra and his apprentice, Karya, wanted to capture a Koholasaurus, which, according to legend, contained a clue to a legendary, mysterious island. Intrigued by the mysterious island, the Traveler and Paimon decided to learn the legend from the chief of the People of the Springs, Amina. It turned out that the most important condition was to travel with someone you could trust with your life. Therefore, only friends who trusted each other implicitly could reach the mysterious island. And if this condition was not met, even the most experienced guide would not be able to cope with the difficulties along the way.Since the Traveler and Paimon were determined to reach the mysterious island, they asked their friend and guide of the People of the Springs, Mualani, to accompany them. Although she had never been to the mysterious island, she agreed. Viramdra and Karya also wanted to join the expedition, but since they weren't friends with Mualani, she suggested they go together to bond. For their journey together, she purchased the best tent and gear, a portable music player, and a rare record, paying for it all herself. Finally, she went to her mentor, the famous guide Nuu, to obtain a map with clues. In addition to the legend of the mysterious island, the first chief of the People of the Springs left behind a treasure map, covered with strange symbols, like part of a vast puzzle. He distributed copies of the map to the first members of the tribe, so that it would be passed down from generation to generation. Typically, a teacher passes a map to their apprentice. The guide's expertise would help decipher the map and plan a route to the mysterious island. In addition to the map, Nuu gave Mualani a protective amulet made of unusual Spinel Fruit, which she was to return after the expedition. The next day, when all preparations for the expedition were complete, Mualani, the Traveler, Paimon, and the Sumeru scholars met near the monument to the first chief of the People of the Springs to ask for the blessing of their ancestors."Greetings to my ancestors. As your descendant, I'm about to follow in your footsteps and witness your accomplishments. Allow me to depart under your gaze and return under your protective watch."The first clue on the treasure map was related to Koholasaurs. While composing the map, the first chief left a special secret sign, known only to the People of the Springs. It was a code that the tribe used to indicate a herd of Koholasaurs. When outsiders received a copy of the map, they looked in the wrong places for the clue, but one or two Koholasaurs wouldn't give the answer. Mualani knew that wild Koholasaurs occasionally gathered in a herd in the valley of the Toyac Springs, like a tribal council. But once the meeting ended, the Koholasaurs quickly dispersed, so only a guide who had traveled the length and breadth of Natlan could detect a Saurian herd. When scholars from the Sumeru Akademiya hunted Koholasaurs, Karya conducted research and discovered that they relied on smell rather than hearing, so Mualani decided to rub Sprayfeather Gill's extract into her skin to deceive them. In the valley, Mualani, the Traveler, and Paimon saw a drawing appear. This drawing was made of a type of moss that changes color when it reacts to the biological signals released by Koholasaurs. The second clue was located at the boundaries between the water and the land at Jadeskirt Knoll, where the ancient dragons installed a Spiritdoor that opened the Spiritways. During his independent search for the mysterious island, Viramdra was unable to find the exact route to the mysterious island, but he deduced the geographical features of its location. The island must have been located at the intersection of water and land, where a high concentration of phlogiston should have been present. His research revealed that the Spiritways were originally a natural phenomenon caused by the flow of phlogiston. After locating all thethe team opened the Spiritway trial. To complete it, the Traveler and Paimon had to switch nodes between themselves while Mualani followed the Spiritways. Once the trial was passed, the weather began to deteriorate, and a huge whirlpool appeared in the water. The third clue Mualani deciphered indicated that the route to the mysterious island lay through a whirlpool, but Viramdra refused to follow it. He believed that Spiritways had affected nearby bodies of water, lowering the water level and causing the whirlpools. A portion of land that had once been underwater would soon resurface, and the scholar believed this to be the mysterious island. Mualani agreed to explore the whirlpool first to disprove Viramdra's theory, but he wouldn't listen. The scholar decided to wade across the water on the southern side of the hill, but after taking just a few steps, the current swept him away. Even though Mualani knew the whirlpool would close in minutes, she rushed to his rescue. The guide managed to pull him from the water, but the whirlpool had disappeared in the meantime, forcing them to set up camp. The next day, after restarting the Phlogiston Nodes, Mualani and her team entered the whirlpool and found themselves in an underground cave. In the cave, Mualani spotted a special Spinel Fruit, the same one given to her by Nuu, the mentor who claimed not to have found the mysterious island. In the distance, beyond the lava flows, they saw a golden light. Viramdra believed this light emanated from a rare ore called Vulcanite, even a small piece of which was worth a fortune, but Mualani urged them to return. The first chief's map contained many symbols and riddles, but one was written clearly: "When you see the golden light, then go the opposite way." Viramdra couldn't retreat when he was so close to his goal. His previous work had been stolen, and he had begun research, focusing on Vulcanite. If he could return with the ore, his theories would be proven, and he would be able to reclaim everything he had lost. As before, the scholar ignored the warning and rushed toward the golden glow, putting the lives of the entire team at risk. Due to the instability of the lava-formed cave, liquid phlogiston began to rise, causing an earthquake. As before, the guide had to rescue the scholar, and they managed to escape the cave before it collapsed. After leaving the cave, Mualani, Karya, Viramdra, the Traveler, and Paimon found themselves standing next to the statue of the first chief, where they had started their journey. When Mualani touched it, the volcanic dust on her hand revealed a hidden message left by the first chief on the statue. He had once been the greatest guide in all of Natlan. At first, he was like a treasure hunter. He pursued results, overcoming countless dangers to prove his worth. Again and again, he strove to reach places others feared to tread, bringing back rare treasures. The first chief was at the height of his glory, but he still couldn't get enough. Then he found a new goal, a challenge no one had ever mastered — the legendary, mysterious island. The first chief's friends, who had traveled with him all this time, grew weary of the danger and warned him against the journey, but they nevertheless agreed to go with him. As before, they devised various ways to move forward and never failed the chief, even when he entrusted them with his life. They always trusted him, even when it required great courage. Finally, they reached their goal. The mysterious island shone with a golden light; countless treasures were buried there, and the golden glow was baiting him towards death. But the glow of rare ores was also a warning sign of an impending eruption. He could risk his life and claim the treasure, but he risked losing his friends. Ultimately, he decided to return without a treasure. Everyone was disappointed that the renowned guide returned empty-handed, but when he saw that everyone had returned alive, he was satisfied for the first time. Perhaps the treasure he was truly searching for had been nearby all along. So the guide decided to end his long journey and find a safe place for his hard-earned treasure, becoming the first chief of the People of the Springs. For him, this was the real mysterious island. When Mualani returned to her mentor, she asked why he hadn't told anyone about the island. If the secret were revealed, the legend would be destroyed, but if it were preserved, new generations of young guides would be ready to take on the challenge. And although Mualani, Karya, Viramdra, Traveler, and Paimon, like Nuu, returned from the expedition empty-handed, each of them gained something more than just treasure.Related Entries:Volcano LordAround five hundred years ago, after the Cataclysm, Natlan was ruled by the Pyro Archon Cochanina. In Natlan, there is a legend of the Volcano Lord, a huge, hulking monster, with a black and purple body like a salamander (in fact, the Volcano Lord is an allegory for the Abyss). Legend has it that when the great dragon civilization disappeared from Natlan, the empty Great Volcano of Tollan was occupied by the dark Volcano Lord, a descendant of Xiuhcoatl. The Volcano Lord dominated the lands of Natlan, committing countless vile acts. Many Pyro Archons fought him, but he would lie low at the bottom of the dark volcano, only to return to his old ways. He blew a wind filled with sparks to the Scions of the Canopy and swallowed the entire Collective of Plenty, but the tribe's warriors and the Tatankasaurus managed to pierce his stomach from the inside. He also attempted to obtain the precious crystals of the Children of Echoes, but they pinned the dragon's paw to the ground with stone pins, forcing him to cut off his own paw.Another legend tells of how the Volcano Lord was banished from the Toyac Springs, the land of the People of the Springs. One day, the dragon lay in the volcano, admiring his pitch-black body, and thought that the bottom of the volcano was too dark for him to even see himself. If all the dirt and soot from the bottom of the volcano were carried to the purest springs of the People of the Springs, the volcano would become brighter and cleaner. So he made the volcano belch out thick smoke, giving him shadows in which to hide, and came among the People of the Springs. Indifferent to the protests of the people and their attempts to stop him, he dumped all his filthy black things into the spring water, and such a stench fouled up the air of the entire tribe itself, so that even the Flowcurrent Birds couldn't take it anymore and winged it right outta there one by one. The elders of the People of the Springs sought out the Pyro Archon Cochanina and asked her for help. Cochanina decided to find a way to drive the monster from these lands once and for all, taking only a surfboard with her. When Cochanina arrived before the Volcano Lord, she told him that only the ancient treasure of the People of the Springs, the Iridescent Chalice, from which infinite rainbows spill forth, could cleanse all his treasures. The Volcano Lord's eyes lit up, and he was ready to plunge into the water's depths for the treasure. Then Cochanina led him right out towards the deep sea. The clumsy monster could not compete with the tribe's surfing champion and could only follow along in her wake, eating the spray her board kicked up. Seeing that he was already dizzy, Cochanina tossed out a Drifting Pufferfish way off into the distance and shouted loudly that the treasure was ahead. Due to the splashing waves, the monster couldn't see what she had thrown, so he rushed toward the treasure. The Drifting Pufferfish struck him painfully, and the Volcano Lord fell off his board into the water, where creatures far more dangerous than himself lurked. He splashed sorrily among the waves before finally latching onto some reeds and drifting to shore. Although Cochanina didn't manage to get him out of Natlan entirely, the Volcano Lord never again dared to mess with the People of the Springs.Related Entries:The Abyss InvasionDuring the war between the Descenders and the dragons, Natlan's Ley Lines were significantly damaged. During the Cataclysm, they were almost destroyed, so the Abyss was not completely banished. For five hundred years, the Abyss grew in power by attacking the tribes. At first, the attacks seemed random, and the Abyss appeared to be a natural phenomenon, but it later turned out that the attacks occurred at the tribes' vulnerable points. Using memories stored in Natlan's Night Kingdom, the Abyss studied all the tribes' weaknesses, as if possessing a consciousness. And five hundred years after the Cataclysm, it launched a full-scale invasion of all the tribes of Natlan simultaneously.Allied with the Fatui under the leadership of the Harbinger Capitano, the Natlanese rushed to defend their tribes. Despite all of Natlan's resistance, the Abyssal Pylons, constantly creating monsters, appeared in ever-increasing numbers, and the Abyss itself used its main weapon: Gosoythoth. The immense energy of the Abyss took on an unimaginable form, looming over Natlan and casting a shadow over the entire sky. Monsters completely overran the territories of Coatepec Mountain, Tequemecan Valley, and Quahuacan Cliff, and the Abyssal infestation spread to the Toyac Springs. The Abyssal attack significantly weakened the defenses of the People of the Springs, and their lands were under attack. The People of the Springs' hero, Mualani, and Chief Amina went to help purify the waters near the tribe's settlement, while others traveled to the north of the area. On the border of the Toyac Springs, Coatepec Mountain, and Basin of Unnumbered Flames, the people and their saurian companions found themselves trapped, and the Abyssal attacks only grew stronger. Warriors from the People of the Springs, along with their Saurians, were making their way to the Stadium of the Sacred Flame when they were suddenly attacked by Abyssal monsters disguised as Saurians. The Saurians fought to the last, trying to protect the people, but even the arriving reinforcements were too late.Pyro Archon Mavuika had already witnessed a battle of similar magnitude five hundred years ago, during the Cataclysm. Although the Natlanese at that time had managed to drive the Abyss into the depths of the Night Kingdom, they knew it would eventually erupt again. Their calculations estimated that they would have a maximum of five hundred years before the Night Kingdom was completely lost to the Abyss, but as it was, Natlan lay in ruins, and the civilization was dying. It was necessary to unite the tribes, otherwise, it would be impossible to dream of a final victory. So, the Archon had a long and involved discussion with the heroes of each tribe and finally came up with a five-hundred-year-long plan to save Natlan. During this time, the Archons and chiefs were to rebuild the tribes, and when the time came, the Wayob would again choose six heroes of Natlan with the Ancient Names of Xbalanque's companions. Mavuika entered the Sacred Flame to be reborn five hundred years later. In the present day, when all six heroes necessary for Mavuika's plan were recognized by their Ancient Names, she used their power and the power of the divine throne to banish the Abyss. This power helped destroy the previously invulnerable Abyss Tumors, and the Ode of Resurrection enabled the resurrection of all Natlanese who had perished after using this power. Thanks to the Natlanese's bravery, the Toyac Springs and other tribes were recaptured, and Mavuika was able to attack Gosoythoth, forcing it to flee into the Night Kingdom.Despite the Ode of Resurrection, many Natlanese and their Saurians were unable to be resurrected or died from their wounds. Among the dead in the People of the Springs was the tribe's elder, the renowned Atea the Candlekeeper, who had defended her tribe for many years. Several years before the invasion, an Abyssal monster had stabbed her in the stomach, and the power of the Abyss remained within her body, slowly corroding her organs. Even with the help of the Traveler, who cleansed her body of the Abyss, the damage proved irreparable, and Atea died some time after the invasion began. When the main battle was over, and the Pyro Archon and the Traveler were preparing to depart for the Night Kingdom for the last fight with the Abyss, the rebuilding settlement of the People of the Springs decided to hold a pre-battle feast. Although all the tribes were busy restoring their settlements, many came to the feast or sent food. During the celebration, those gathered discovered that many of them had been dreaming of their fallen friends. The hero of the Collective of Plenty dreamed of her deceased Saurian companion, Mualani dreamed of Atea, the hero of the Masters of the Night-Wind dreamed of the tribal grandparents who raised him, the hero of the Children of the Echoes dreamed of the deceased grandparents of her Tepetlisaurus companion, and the hero of the Flower-Feather Clan dreamed of her sister, who died during the invasion. The Pyro Archon, Mavuika, believed that their dreams arose from launching a special kind of Night War by using the power of the divine throne. Its great power allowed the Ode of Resurrection to bring back all casualties, independent of the time of victory, or the possession of an Ancient Name. In addition, the power of the divine throne revitalized the souls and memories within the Night Kingdom, allowing them to take the form of their past selves. Even after the Night Wars ended, the effect still lingered for some time, causing the Natlanese to dream of the dead they knew. It turned out that some of the souls they had seen in their dreams were unable to return to the Night Kingdom because the Lord of the Night could not accept them. Only when the Night Kingdom was restored were they all able to find peace.
