Lore

Windblume FestivalAbout 2,600 years ago, the future Mondstadt was ruled by the God of Storms, Decarabian. Due to the King of the North Winds, Andrius's attacks, he was forced to retreat north and built a city in a ring shape, where every resident of the city had been arranged their own spot between the inner and outer rings. Right in the centre of the city was the tall tower where the King of Gales resided. The Lord of Wind was content with his capital and accepted the worship of the people from atop his tower. He believed he had protected his people, unaware that they did not bow to him out of respect or adoration, but because the harsh winds had laid them low. Back then, there used to be blooming wild flowers over hill and dale. They were not afraid of the mighty winds, terrible winters, and wild whipping ice. The stronger the wind blew, the sturdier those flowers' roots would grow, and the more they flourished. These flowers were called "Windblume." The day when the kingdom was dotted with those flowers would be the day when the tower finally fell down. The word "Windblume" was once a code word for people who wished to stay in contact and plot resistance in secret."Let me give you this nameless flower, and may the spring-times you never saw mean nothing to you.""Pray repay me with hope and a smile, and stand with me to welcome the day when the storms blow no longer."When Decarabian ordered warriors who had never seen the sky to destroy the rebels in the cradle who were attempting to shake the tower, one of the warriors lowered his blade, hearing the songs flowing from the strings of a young bard. He was not deceived by the tongues of treachery or swayed by the promises of illusions. He yielded only to the caged bird's yearning for the sky, a hunger writ in the blood of every living creature. Thus, the silent, red-haired warrior cast aside both duty and name to gather the winds scattered across the long night for the boy singing to the dawn. He was the first to send secret messages through the Windblume. Although his name has since been lost to time and a warrior turned his back on the newborn god, who came after Decarabian, his deeds are still remembered in song. Just as the fate of the Windblume is to bloom under great pressure when the need to arise is most desperate, the fate of this clan will likely never change: they shall ever live in the darkness and bring forth the flame of dawn. A thousand years later, another red-haired warrior, Ragnvindr the Dawn Knight, went to war against the aristocracy of Mondstadt, corrupted by power and wealth. And the heir to the Ragnvindr Clan, Diluc, protects Mondstadt nowadays from all enemies, hiding under the cover of night."Let the nameless flowers kiss away your tears, and grieve not for the parting that tomorrow brings.""Until the breath of dawn erases my name, and reveals for you the light that is true."When the tyrant was overthrown and Barbatos came to power over Mondstadt, Windblume became a symbol of freedom, and the Windblume Festival became a day to commemorate the courage and sacrifice of those heroes. But over the years, the history of the festival was forgotten, and the meaning of the word "Windblume" acquired a new meaning. In times of peace, it has become synonymous with love and gladness, and sometimes, even the forged weapons that are to be wielded for conquest and victory are adorned with such flowers."The flowers in bloom should represent love, and stand for the coming of spring.""No more should they signal for rebellion, nor be the sign for banners to be raised..."Related Entries:WindblumeNobody in Mondstadt knows what kind of flower the Windblume is, but in Mondstadt, there are two main opposing camps: Asterists, also known as "Windblumer traditionalists," and Dandelionites. The first camp believes that the Windblume Festival is a tribute to the liberation of ancient Mondstadt from tyranny. Windwheel Asters that turn the wind are the true symbol of Mondstadt's freedom, and the epitome of windmills, which is why traditionalists chose them as their symbol. Many have forgotten the history of the festival, so this theory is not widespread.Nowadays, most people are the Dandelionites and believe that the Windblume Festival is a festival for lovers and that they should express their love with the most extravagant sincerity during this time. Passionate people in love will often travel to Cape Oath and express their feelings for one another amid the billowing Dandelions and profuse Cecilias. For them, the Windblume means love and gladness. Sometimes, even the forged weapons are adorned with such flowers following the commissioner's or forger's wish.A few people don't belong to Dandelionites or Asterists and believe that Windblume can be Wolfhook, Cecilia, Sweet Flower, or other flowers. In reality, Windblume never existed, so for each person, it means something different: flowers of love, flowers of respect, or flowers of blessing. Windblume is the spirit of the desire for freedom, the courage that allows you to follow the wind wherever it leads. Therefore, anything that is beautiful and worth blessing can be a Windblume.Related Entries:Present DaysModern Mondstadt celebrates the spring Windblume Festival as a festival of freedom and love, a time of joy and fun. The Windblume Festival is not inferior in importance to the Lantern Rite Festival in Liyue or the Fontinalia Festival in Fontaine. At this time, people offer Windblume to the Anemo Archon Barbatos to show their respect and love. And according to tradition, they give these flowers to their closest and beloved people. At this time, even the Adventurers' Guild does not have any commissions, since during the festival, you need to do everything yourself in order to find your love. One of the modern traditions of the Windblume Festival is the capture of foxes. Every Windblume festival, young hunters go to Wolvendom to catch foxes. When they catch one, they place a wreath of flowers on its head and release it. It's a prayer for finding love in the year ahead.

Events

Invitation of WindblumeDuring the Windblume Festival, many people of Mondstadt decide on matters of the heart. At the first festival that the Traveler and Paimon attended, they met their old friend the bard Venti, who was dreaming of earning money for a limited supply of new wine. He decided to teach people, who wanted to know the art of love, to write love poems. In order to quickly free himself and try the wine, Venti asked the Traveler and Paimon to help him and promised to send secret signals to determine whether people should keep their distance and take the time or give up outright. The captain of the Knights of Favonius, Kaeya, also decided to write love poems and stated that like any teacher, Venti should be checking his students' homework. With Venti's tips, the Traveler and Paimon went to help the people of Mondstadt. First of all, they met with Marvin, a member of the famous Mondstadt Goth family. His strict and conservative father did not approve of his son's relationship with a girl from a farming family, so Marvin wanted to give his father a Windblume and ask for permission to date Marla. The Traveler and Paimon give Marvin advice about talking to his father and remind him not to forget about Marla herself on the Festival of Love. Then they went to Ellin, a girl who dreamed of becoming a Knight of Favonius. She wanted to bring flowers and a poem to the Acting Grand Master Jean, since she was her main fan. Ellin was worried that the fair, persistent and conscientious Jean would want to give a return gift, which would distract her from important matters. But at the same time, a gift without a signature could arouse suspicion. With Venti's help, the Traveler and Paimon advised Ellin and went to the next citizen. Albert, leader of the Barbara (the Deaconess of the Church of Favonius and the Mondstadt idol) Fan Club, wanted to build a huge flower statue of Barbara and place it near the entrance to the cathedral.By collecting poems from his students and completing various assignments, Venti receives following poems from Kaeya, Timaeus and Bennett:Kaeya's poem:"Mi muhe yeMeans I love youIn the language of the hilichurls."Timaeus's poem:"Hand in hand with you before the furnaceThe flames fail to riseFor they are burning in my heart."Bennett's poem (co-written with Razor):"You and the Mare JivariSo close and yet so farOne at the edge of the worldThe other in the center of my heartWolfhook and dandelionMy Windblume offering to you."Under the famous bard's guidance, people were able to open up in love poems, although some of them were considered by Venti to be insufficiently thought out. Since the Windblume Festival originated in the City of Freedom, people themselves are free to decide what to do on this day: make the first move or trust to chance. People should share fond memories and let the heart decide the rest. Thanks to the invaluable assistance to the people of Mondstadt, the Traveler was declared the Windblume Star and was given the honor of choosing a Windblume and presenting it to the Anemo Archon on behalf of all the Mondstadt people. After consulting with Venti, the Anemo Archon Barbatos, the Traveler and Paimon learned about the true nature of Windblume and that the flower carries its own meaning for each person."Who was it that stroked your bloodied, determined visageBy stream flowing smallBy boulder standing largeWho was it that embraced your weary yet noble soulIn dreams deepIn skies soaringDear friendI am leading you by the handInto the night where lanterns shine brightTo tell you a tale of freedom and dreamsThe tale of where this festival begins."Related Entries:Windblume's BreathDuring the second Windblume Festival, which the Traveler and Paimon attended, they encountered the alchemist's assistant Sucrose, who had been appointed as the Windblume Festival Special Ambassador. Sucrose's task was to perform good deeds during the festival, and she asked each person whom she helped to exhale into a test tube to collect the "Breath of Joy." She hoped to use this breath in alchemy to obtain unprecedented miracles. Sucrose wanted the last breath to be special and asked the Traveler and Paimon to help her accomplish something difficult. On the way, they met their friend Collei, who had come from Sumeru with her teachers, Tighnari and Cyno, for the festival to meet with her friend Amber. While choosing a book in the Gift Shop, Collei came across a strange note that looked like a prophecy. "If you can do these things, you may light the lantern of utmost joy and receive a supreme blessing. Find a flower that is not of this world. Find a guide who will never get lost. Find one who would never lie. Find a legend that never ends." Together, Collei, Sucrose, the Traveler, and Paimon decided to unravel the mystery of the note and find the lantern of utmost joy.Collei and others assumed that the lantern of utmost joy can grant a wish, and so Collei thought about "changing her personality." The first time she came to Mondstadt, she was really immature and didn't want to let people in. The scout from the Knights of Favonius, Amber, was the one person who didn't give up on her. Because of that, Collei started to look up to her and hoped to be like her one day. After trying and failing for several years, she realized that she would never be like her friend: Collei always gets anxious, overthinks everything, and gets into a spiral of self-doubt, which is why she wanted to change herself.Using the help of all their friends, they found a flying island, in the middle of which there is a table with chairs and cutlery for 7 people and a lantern in the middle. Having expressed all their assumptions about the prophecy, with the help of a lantern, they contacted the witch Alice, Klee's mother. It turned out that the "prophecy" was a letter of invitation to a farewell meeting, which the witches sent to their friends who decided to leave them and spend the rest of their days with their lover. Each of the riddles of the note referred to one of the witches: Rhinedottir (a flower that is not of this world), Nicole (a guide who will never get lost), Alice (one who would never lie), and Andersdotter (a legend that has no end).Alice talked about the Hexenzirkel, a secret witch society. Once upon a time, it challenged the Anemo Archon himself, but he told them to make music, not war. From then on, the mages would only ever convene in the woods, in the sky, or on the edges of cliffs. At these tea parties, they discussed their stories and secrets and resolved their differences. There were eight witches, among whom were who received a letter of invitation, which was found by Collei,Mona Megistus's Master, andThe "prophecy" that Collei discovered in a book written by Andersdotter was inserted by one of I. Ivanovna N.'s apprentices, Scarlett. The young witch wanted to meet the Hexenzirkel to become J's official successor, so she decided to follow Collei and her friends as they solved the note.At the end of Collei's adventures, a shy and modest girl with a difficult past found true friends and especially bonded with Sucrose, an introvert by nature. Sucrose chose Collei's "Breath of Joy" to be the final component for her research. Padisarah seeds, a rare Sumeru flower, became Collei's Windblume, which she gave to the Traveler.Related Entries:ParalogismAt the third Windblume Festival the Traveler and Paimon attended, strange things began to happen in the city. Despite the festive atmosphere, many of the people felt depressed and tired. Beatrice, who had romantic feelings for Quinn and often spent time with him, did not want to go for a walk with him and suggested not seeing each other for a while. The Knight of Favonius, Miles, felt very tired, although the doctors found no illness. And Donna, who was in love with Diluc Ragnvindr, a wine tycoon of Mondstadt, suddenly stopped having feelings for him, but his brother, Kaeya, became her type. They all said that they recently saw something that could have affected them. While the Traveler and Paimon were talking with the receptionist for the Adventurers' Guild, Katheryne, they were approached by Cavalry Captain Kaeya, who asked to meet at the Knights of Favonius headquarters to discuss the events in the city. Inside, they were met by the squad captains who had come to Mondstadt for an important trial. Although almost all the captains had gathered, the Captain of the Investigation Squad, Albedo, was not among them, as it was his case that was being presented at the trial. The trial was presided over by the current Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius, Jean; the Deacon of the Church of Favonius, Dahlia, was the assessor; the prosecution was represented by the Captain of the Logistics Company, Hertha; and the defendant was represented by Kaeya. Before this trial, the Knights of Favonius, in conjunction with the Church, launched an investigation into Albedo for suspected murder and unlawful disposal of human remains. The prosecution had two witnesses testify that they had seen Albedo bury the bodies, and that teeth and bone had been found near one of the sites. A letter written in the hand of an alchemist was also presented, discussing alchemical processes, decomposition, and extraction. The locations mentioned in the letter matched the witnesses' testimonies, and so Albedo was found guilty at the first hearing. After the trial, the Traveler and Paimon met with the Anemo Archon, and his friend Dahlia, who was representing the Archon at the trial. They, along with some other members of the Knights of Favonius, knew of Albedo's artificial origins and did not want this to be revealed at the trial, as people might perceive his nature as the cause of the crime. The defense could appeal within a few days, so Jean and Kaeya asked the Traveler and Paimon to conduct an independent investigation, which led them to Dragonspine. There, they discovered a patch of land different from the surrounding area. While clearing away the snow, they found a large hole that could have been used to hide a corpse, but it was empty. The prosecution believed that Albedo had disposed of the bodies using alchemy, but this location was different from the previous two, as if someone had dug the hole instead. After examining all the evidence, the Traveler and Paimon reported it to Jean. During the second trial, the joint investigation team presented new evidence in the case: they found out that the bone belonged to a person and discovered that several residents of Mondstadt had gone missing some time ago, including a resident matching the description of the bones. In addition, the prosecution presented a map with marks that the Traveler and Paimon had found. Although the evidence seemed irrefutable, the defendant continued to insist that he had not killed anyone. The Traveler felt that something was missing in the investigation, and decided to speak up in court and say that the third place marked on the map was different from the previous ones. The tracks on Dragonspine were old and indicated that the incident that occurred there had happened at a different time, which cast doubt on the alchemist's guilt. Albedo confessed that the map was in fact his and that those places were in fact where corpses were hidden, and that he had buried the body of an intruder on Dragonspine, who had wanted to secretly get rid of him, taking advantage of the deserted location. A battle ensued between them, and Albedo was forced to kill him and bury the body. And although this was irrefutable evidence of guilt for Hertha, Albedo never said that he killed a "human." Albedo's impostor on Dragonspine was a failed experimental specimen left in the stomach of Durin, the alchemist's research subject. At this moment, the Knights of Favonius appeared in the courtroom, bringing the Captain of the Logistics Company, Hertha. "Hertha," who was leading the prosecution, tried to justify herself and expose the arriving captain as an impostor, but she could not confirm on which hand she had a large scar. Miles, who had been acting suspiciously for the past few days, could not answer the same question. Albedo knew that the double could change its appearance and add a scar to itself, but such changes could affect its accomplices. All of them fell under the influence of Durin's life force, and their presence prevented the double from acting. If the changes had started, the creatures around would have been affected by this force, and the double would have lost control of what was happening. Realizing that she had trapped herself, "Hertha" jumped across the entire hall and escaped, and the knights set off in pursuit. When Hertha's impostor escaped, Albedo finally told the Traveler and Paimon what was happening. The events of the past few days were part of a plan that the Knights Favonius had been preparing for half a year. They had long been monitoring the resurgence of Durin's life force and how the monsters became more aggressive under the influence of the corrupting power. When the alchemist first encountered his impostor several years ago, he killed it and buried it in the snow, but the monsters dug up its body and returned it to Durin's stomach. Having absorbed the emotions, memories, and powers of the impostor, Durin realized that he was no longer the only and perfect creation of his mother, so he felt pain and decided to get rid of Albedo. From the impostor, he learned the ability to transform their appearance, and the monsters he spawned could take on someone else's appearance. During his observations, the alchemist noticed that many of those who dared to go to Dragonspine returned different. Some simply fell under the influence of Durin's power, while others fell victim to the monsters that took their appearance and infiltrated Mondstadt. Most of the impostors had no relatives, so their strange behavior went unnoticed. The alchemist killed two monsters that tried to attack people, and also buried one of the monsters' victims. While the trial was going on, monsters began to descend from Dragonspine, and when theirwas affected, they attacked the city. The impostor was forced to release Durin's power, and everyone who fell under the influence was taken under control. To protect the Mondstadters from those who fell under Durin's influence, the Anemo Archon used the power of Anemo, and the Knights of Favonius were able to isolate the affected people without causing them harm. In addition, Barbatos created wind currents throughout the city to quickly move and communicate between the knights. All the Mondstadters came out to defend their home, and with the support of the Anemo Archon, they defeated the monsters. Despite the victory, Albedo still had a personal matter. He asked Barbatos to arrange a three-way meeting with the Hexenzirkel and told the elder, Alice, that he wanted to do something no one had ever done before: a human transmutation. On behalf of the Hexenzirkel, Alice agreed to Albedo's request and suggested that they meet at a long table in a secret room beneath the library. Before going to Alice, the Traveler and Paimon met Mini Durin, a dragon from the fairytale land of Simulanka. He was created based on the Durin of Teyvat, and their fates were intertwined, causing his life to be just as tragic. When the Traveler and the heroes who had appeared in Simulanka saved Mini Durin, he met Albedo, and they agreed to perform a great feat. Mini Durin wanted to replace Durin of Dragonspine and, through alchemy, be reborn as a human. At his meeting with Alice, Albedo asked the Hexenzirkel for the flesh of an immortal monster from the Mare Jivari and a fragment of the "embryo" used by his mother, Rhinedottir, to create her monsters. The alchemist knew that Durin could not be completely destroyed even after death, so he decided to kill him and artificially resurrect him in another form by transmuting the human body. To prove that the alchemist was worthy of wielding the power of these materials, the witches prepared a special test for him: a battle on a chessboard. When Albedo and the Traveler passed the test, and the witches acknowledged their victory, Alice agreed to provide the necessary materials, and the alchemist went to Dragonspine to extract the life core from Durin's heart. After the battle in Mondstadt, the Knights of Favonius chosethe bard as the Windblume Star, who is allowed to choose the Windblume for the festival. According to the Acting Grand Master, Venti made an outstanding contribution to the success of the defensive operation. His words and songs always have a way of lifting people's spirits, and they were a great support to the knights. As a windblume, Venti chose the Cecilia flower, as beautiful as its name."The true feelings of the prodigal son. A sentiment as sweet and warm as a gentle spring breeze — perfect for the season!"When the Windblume Festival reached its climax in Mondstadt, Albedo began his ritual, and Venti performed a song for the citizens in the main square of Mondstadt. Long ago, Albedo's mother, Rhinedottir, sent him to Mondstadt, telling him that he must solve an important task: to find the truth of this world. It took him a while to confirm that "finding the truth of this world" meant "finding life." Thus, the creation of Mini Durin became the truth that Albedo had been searching for for so long."When no love remains for the songs to tell, the world becomes naught but an empty shell...Cruel is said fate, cruel it may be, were it not for a hero who could set us all free.Through shadows so cold, he sought wisdom untold, chasing a fragrance, the wind only knows. Thus wistfulness waned and faded into night, as he stepped from the darkness, and into the light."
