New Fontaine Research InstituteNorthIn a camp on the north side of this subarea, Aigouy and Balent, workers of the Fortress of Meropide who provide the pipeline maintenance, can be found. Previously, Aigouy had noticed a Hilichurl camp and warned his young colleague against working near the camp, advising him to report the problem to the fortress guard, Estienne. Balent took matters into his own hands, as the Fortress's pipeline breakdown and the emergency threatened serious consequences. During the previous inspection, he had found some damage and filed a request, but nothing had been delivered yet. Since there was no time to delay the pipeline maintenance work, he went to the Hilichurl camp alone and was captured. The Traveler and Paimon were alarmed at the possibility of Balent being in danger and wanted to rescue him. However, Aigouy believed that learning through personal experience was crucial for Balent to grow. Despite Aigouy's objections, Paimon and the Traveler proceeded to rescue Balent and aided him in repairing the Fortress of Meropide's piping.Just east of the camp is the location where the Fortress of Meropide guard Estienne, the Traveler, Paimon, a child born in the Fortress named Lanoire, and a prisoner named Caterpillar emerged after escaping the Fortress. This was Lanoire's first glimpse of the outside world. She compared the continent of Teyvat to the Fortress of Meropide, assuming Teyvat must be enormous since she couldn't see any walls. Estienne wanted to let Lanoire go, and the group planned to find Lanoire's family, but another guard from the Fortress of Meropide, Noailles, confronted them, questioning their intentions and their presence with Lanoire. Estienne defended their actions, claiming he was correcting the mistake of Lanoire and Caterpillar's imprisonment due to missing paperwork. However, Noailles insisted they were still criminals. When he saw the real appearance of Caterpillar — a Hilichurl — he considered him a monster and wanted to destroy him and lock the rest in prison. Thanks to the help of Estienne and another guard, Lanoire and Caterpillar managed to leave the Fortress through the shaft of the Geode Mine, and Lanoire went to live with her grandfather, Earnshaw, who did not even know about her existence.A private laboratory used by Potton, a researcher from the Institute who also goes by the name Rawat, is located in the northern part of this subarea. Potton was considered ugly, women did not want to meet him, and other researchers of the Institute did not want to work with him. Only criminals were willing to support his research, and so Potton began to become involved in Sinthe production. This laboratory was used for the production of a face-changing сream. This cream used illegal components and could be dangerous for people. The Maison Gardiennage found it while investigating the escape from the Fortress of Meropide. Eventually, all criminals involved in this illegal production were arrested.Related Entries:Kuisel's Clockwork WorkshopIn the northern section of this subarea, an abandoned workshop known as Kuisel's Clockwork Workshop can be found. This workshop isn't private property, but an abandoned building that failed to become part of the Fortress of Meropide. After the disappearance of the workshop's previous owner, Coutrot assumed ownership and used the name "Kuisel" as a convenient character. Assistants, interested in furthering Kuisel's research regarding a neural network, used to inquire through researcher Bricole inside the workshop. Due to the failure to comprehend the meaning of Coutrot's research, this project was ultimately taken away. According to Bricole, Coutrot's peculiar research got him kicked out of the Fontaine Research Institute. After the Institute heard Bricole's brief report, he was asked to assess the area for suitability as a quality development training ground alongside conducting his retrieval work. Consequently, he had placed a few replica anchors in nearby surroundings, reassuring everyone that they were just dummies and completely safe.Defeating certain "Imperfect Mek" encounters in the Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering Region and Liffey Region will grant an Energy Concentrating Component. Originally an ordinary moving clockwork component, they have been enhanced with an energy storage ring made from high-density materials, potentially capable of powering an entire machine. With a total of seven available, these components could be used to open a cell in Kuisel's Clockwork Workshop.Related Entries:New InstituteThe Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering was the technological center of the entire Court of Fontaine. Alain Guillotin established the institute after leaving the Marechaussee Phantom 400-500 years ago. As the Fontaine Research Institute dedicates itself to studying machines and energy, clockwork meka research was the primary focus with most mechanical inventions having come from this Institute.Ever since the first diluvian period, the Fontaine Research Institute has been preoccupied with the thought that there might be a second one. Some had the idea of taking back the ruins lost to the waves and building an underwater city, whereas others looked up to the untouchable sky islands overhead with the intention of building a metropolis in the clouds. Edwin Eastinghouse is a former Senior Technician who conducted experiments using Arkhium to defy gravity with the hopes of lifting the Court of Fontaine into the sky as a means to avoid the prophesied flood. His experiments were believed to be the cause of the massive explosion that destroyed most of the Fontaine Research Institute. After the explosion, the institute had to regroup and establish a new facility adjacent to the remnants of the old ruins, preserving what remained intact after the explosion. The operational institute now goes by the name "New Fontaine Research Institute." The Fontaine Research Institute Administrative Officers, Choiseul and Raimondo, are also located here. Raimondo and Choiseul share the heavy responsibilities that belong to the post of Director. Raimondo is responsible for getting scientific work and research back on track, and Choiseul is responsible for everything apart from that. Their main goal remains the same — to rebuild the Fontaine Research Institute and work hard for the well-being of all the people of the Court of Fontaine. The Research Institute is famous for its bright orange drink, Fonta, and the Fonta machine is located in the New Institute. At the Fortress of Meropide, the Pankration Ring is the most popular form of entertainment. All can stand on the stage of the Pankration Ring and the winning team will receive Credit Coupons as well as a Fonta Trophy. When shown at the Fontaine Research Institute, the winner is able to drink all the Fonta they would like, for free. Once, the institute wanted to test their new red Fonta taste, and even offered to sponsor the Pankration tournament so they could push their new product, but the Duke refused to even entertain the idea. The institute representatives are still trying to promote their drink, thus the "hidden rule" of the Pankration Ring appeared: If someone tries to support both boxers at the same time, they'll receive a package the next morning, which contains a strange blood-colored liquid.Slightly northeast of the New Fontaine Research Institute is what remains of the Institute Dormitories. When a researcher at the Institute says they need rest, they only want a quick break for their brain. They will usually come to the Institute Dormitories to play piano, read, and have a drink or two if necessary. The dormitories of the Institute do not have beds. According to the researcher Nacker, sleeping is a waste of time, and most other researchers feel the same way. Even when it seems like they're taking a break, they're still pondering different academic subjects subconsciously. It's akin to a vast ocean that, while appearing calm on the surface, still has a strong undercurrent beneath. Sometimes, the undercurrents below are much stronger than the towering waves above.Once, the Traveler and Paimon were accompanied by Chronie, a journalist, and Nacker, to the new Fontaine Research Institute and met with co-administrators Raimondo and Choiseul. They escorted Nacker to complete a task located at the Institute Dormitories. Chronie questioned whether this was truly where researchers should spend their downtime and found the conditions to be inhumane and suggested prioritizing the renovation of this place. Although this location was not as impacted by the explosion, Nacker agreed this space urgently required renovations and had a severely limited power supply.Related Entries:Executive OfficeLocated at the intersection between the Liffey and Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering regions, the Executive Office is primarily responsible for the Institute's various administrative tasks. The Institutes Safety Exhibition Project Director, Conjat, can be found here.Various documents are kept here including an announcement for the memorial service for Monsieur Butor, the inventor of Cipher Letter. Service attendees not associated with the Institute were required to register with the Funerary Office. The Cipher Letter technology consists of encrypted images that use a special paint that requires an equally special solvent to remove. The service aimed to honor his research contributions to the Institute and the people of the Court of Fontaine.Documents regarding sanctions for Patrice are stored here relating to his traveling to Liyue without permission and conducting research on Vibro-Crystal without the Institute's approval. He was also suspected of tampering with and falsifying experimental results. As a result, he retained his position on probation, pending investigation. All experimental data and papers from his project were temporarily archived and placed under the care of Monsieur Anatole, pending subsequent review and empirical verification. In accordance with the Fontaine Research Institute's personnel regulations, Edwin Eastinghouse had been absent from work without permission for an extended period without submitting any application. Consequently, he was dismissed from his post as Senior Technician effective immediately, with further investigation pending. Like Edwin Eastinghouse, Coutrot, who also went by the name Kuisel, was dismissed from his position by the Institute. Coutrot was dismissed from his position as a Researcher effective immediately due to his peculiar research on neural networks. The Institute retained the right to pursue further legal action in accordance with the relevant laws.Financial documents located here show the funding approval for the Auxiliary Roboarm, Hollow Propulsion Wind Glider, and Autonomous Circuit Aquabus projects were suspended, pending further reviews of finances and assets.Related Entries:Academic Assembly HallThe Academic Assembly Hall is located between the Executive and Materials Offices. The circular design of the exhibition hall allows it to accommodate a larger audience while providing a better view. This hall is a venue for showcasing the fruits of the institute's research to the public, such as the combat-capable Artificed Dancers, the gramophone, and Turbine-Powered Glider. Some joke that Fonta may be the institute's lone scientific achievement that is still legally marketable. Where this hall stood, Edwin Eastinghouse used Arkhium in the creation of the "Prototype Cal. Breguet'' to counteract the effects of gravity. The Arkhium in the device's core has the characteristics of "splitting" or "precipitation," and can take matter, or certain things outside of matter, and separate them. Initial estimates indicated that the device could lift an entire block of buildings. While conducting research, the Arkhium core within the field generator overloaded, triggering a colossal explosion that laid waste to the institute of which Edwin Eastinghouse is given the blame. Consequently, the Experimental Field Generator lost control and now occupies this area of the institute. The explosion claimed the lives of several researchers and many of those who escaped unharmed chose to leave the institute. A mysterious green-yellow crystalline ore that is mutually attracted to others like it can be found at the top level of the ruins by the "Prototype Cal. Breguet."The Institute is planning to rebuild, which requires certain resources and personnel arrangements to be managed through the Maison Gestion. They took this matter seriously and Roialte, Gestionnaire of the Maison Gestion, selected a team to conduct field studies in the vicinity. While Mr. Roialte stayed behind at the Maison Gestion to handle the head count, Iaune was tasked with visiting the Institute to take pictures of certain locations in order to coordinate the reception. The Institute had a letter for the Maison Gestion and Iaune thought to bring it back with him. Mr. Choiseul insisted this would violate proper procedure and refused to hand it over as letters need to be "traceable." As for the Academic Assembly Hall, while the structure resembles a hall, its academic relevance was questionable. Iaune observed the building, finding it relatively intact but too high for a reception to coordinate the plans to rebuild the institute.Chalmet is the Fontaine Research Institute Materials Retrieval Project Director. She can often be found in the Materials Office, located southeast of the New Fontaine Research Institute, continuously organizing documents and files according to Raimondo's instructions. The Materials Office remained structurally intact despite the explosion, keeping most files in good condition. Most materials are outdated reports, memos, and progress updates. Although Chalmet doubts the value of some of the documents, they sometimes contain incomplete projects and detailed work descriptions. She believes these discoveries could be valuable as the Institute plans to restart its research projects, indicating overall positive progress.Related Entries:Bravais' Hidden StudyRight before the final room of Kuisel's Clockwork Workshop, a hidden tunnel leads to Bravais' Press Works where Arkhium can be forged. After obtaining seven Mysterious Ores they will combine into a Arkhium Stock. The Arkhium Stock can be converted into Arkhium Lumenite by using this press.Unlocked only with this Arkhium Lumenite, Bravais' Hidden Study is located near the Academic Assembly Hall. Research notes found inside this study reveal researchers were working on a project that used Arkhium. The notes discuss research related to the Golden Troupe, Fortuna, Petrichor, and Ruggiero, the founder of the Consilium Sapientium. He collected numerous special conches to uncover proof of the Grand Symphony's existence. One can be found in this study, which is similar to the conch harp found in Merusea Village.Related Entries:Mary-Ann Memorial ParkLocated east of the New Fontaine Research Institute and North of the Central Laboratory Ruins lies a park dedicated to Alain's sister, Mary-Ann Guillotin, who was an agent of the Marechaussee Hunters. When the leader of the Narzissenkreuz Ordo, a secret esoteric organization, sent the members to revive the Abyssal creature Elynas, the Marechaussee Hunters, along with Mary-Ann, were ordered to stop and arrest them. A battle occurred between the Marechaussee Phantom's agents and the Narzissenkreuz Ordo's members (Jakob, Lyris, and Caterpillar). During the battle, Mary-Ann Guillotin was seriously injured, and an Oceanid Lyris absorbed her consciousness by hugging her. A new Oceanid, Mary-Ann, was born from this merge. Mary-Ann was no longer either Lyris or Mary-Ann Guillotin but embodied their shared consciousness and desires and was something beyond human or Oceanid capable of creating other Oceanids.Gestionnare, Roialte, was hoping to have someone make a speech here, but due to its current condition and the lack of any iconic landmarks, a speech was out of the question. Beneath this memorial park lies an underwater laboratory belonging to Bossuet.Related Entries:Bossuet's LaboratoryMonsieur Bossuet became the supervisor of the Alain Guillotin Memorial Research Institute and renamed it the Bossuet Research Institute. Per Junior Researcher Chisseray, who notes he was not mandated to say so by Monsieur Bossuet himself, Bossuet's flawless decisions and wise leadership led to remarkable results in multiple research areas. Bossuet was awarded the title of Senior Technician after his paper, Theoretical Analysis and Design of the Novel Artificed Core Configuration, was selected as Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering's Outstanding Paper of the Year. A portrait of Monsieur Bossuet was found in his laboratory and next to the portrait is a memo reading: "A renowned painter of the Court of Fontaine was commissioned to paint this portrait of Monsieur Bossuet to commemorate the fantastic showing of 'Icewind Suite.'" After Bossuet left his post, the laboratory was abandoned and everyone was scattered throughout the institute. Bossuet is now retired and lives in a distant town, Petrichor.During the exploration of these peculiar underwater ruins, the Traveler and Paimon discovered a mysterious light-emitting device. After calibrating three Experimental Focusing Mirrors and activating the device in the center, a gate unlocked allowing them further down the lab. Prototype Artificed Dancers Claire and Lothair, created by Maillardet, were in standby mode but then suddenly activated, forcing the Traveler to defeat them. Sevigne, a researcher at the Fontaine Research Institute, informed them that ever since Maillardet secured a prime spot on Erinnyes, he rarely returned to the lab. The prototypes had been waiting for him, but now, they were so badly damaged that most of the clockwork machinery had fallen out. Sevigne asked the Traveler and Paimon to bring three punched tapes to Chisseray. They used the current from a waterway to leave the lab and gave the tapes to Chisseray at the Institute.Related Entries:Dryas WoodDryas Wood is a sparsely populated area southeast of the New Fontaine Research Institute. Natural philosophers suggest the pine forest's name originates from a barbarian tribe named Dryas, offering a less romanticized explanation than the one offered in the ancient Fontainian play "Dryas." This play honors Aurelius, a hero who conquered many nations for Fontaine, who is believed to be a fictitious invention since historical records do not correspond to his existence. Legends tell of Aurelius falling into an enemy trap during a campaign where he was saved by silver arrows just before an assassin's blade could strike. He met Dryastis, the young maiden who had saved him with her bow, and she began to plead for an end to the needless death in their land. Aurelius was moved by her plea and accepted the proffered bow from her hands and sounded the withdrawal, only to be slain en route by conniving traitors, his body consigned to the ocean depths. Over millennia, the tale has evolved with various versions depicting Aurelius's tragic fate or obsessive love for Dryastis. Regardless of his fate — whether drowned, slain by new adversaries, or transformed by time — the tale of Aurelius and Dryastis persists as a legend of turbulent times. Meanwhile, the bow that played a pivotal role in Aurelius's destiny found its way through many hands, eventually becoming a prop in children's theater — a separate tale of its own.A little girl Blanche and her brother, who sometimes goes by the alias "Tricky Bulle Fruit," often visit Dryas Wood. About a month prior to meeting the Traveler, Blanche's brother came into possession of a valuable potion formula known as "Pure Water," believed to be created by the Fontaine Research Institute. After the Institute's explosion, many items were scattered in the wilderness. This area of Dryas Wood used to be the backyard of the Fontaine Research Institute, which housed various plant nurseries. Blanche's brother often explored these surroundings, which is how he found the formula. The person who created "Pure Water" had lived here in seclusion. The formula contained the names of raw ingredients her brother couldn't understand, so he began searching for relevant manuscripts until he disappeared one day. When he was finally found, "Tricky Bulle Fruit" recounted the tale of the potioneer, an eccentric young man from the Fontaine Research Institute, known for his brilliance in potions and alchemy. Despite his talents, the Institute's focus did not align with his interests, and his withdrawn and narcissistic tendencies led to him being somewhat ostracized. He moved to the mountains and continued his research in seclusion, but rather than preserving them, he poured all his creations into the ground. Some believed that by the intervention of the Hydro Archon, the legendary potions formed a small pond. The young man would immerse himself in the pond all day until he accidentally slipped too deep into the pond and drowned in his own creation. "Tricky Bulle Fruit" planned to send the formula for "Pure Water" to the new Fontaine Research Institute as an inheritance for Blanche."Trendy Zaytun Peach" compiled "Fashion reading materials" around this location served as a dictionary of terms. Members of the New Tide include "Trendy Zaytun Peach" who is also one of the Five Great Operatives of the Fruity Order. He believes "the Ley Lines have contaminated everyone, and so the New Tide shall be born; the darkness has contaminated everyone, and so a world of light shall be born." "Ruthless Calla Lily," "Guileless Wolfhook," and "Tricky Bulle Fruit" are also part of the Five Great Operatives of the Fruity Order. After Bulle Fruit betrayed the organization, higher authorities tasked Calla Lily with eliminating him. When she confronted him, Zaytun Peach and Wolfhook came to his defense. They proceeded to fight Calla Lily but she held back as she uncovered that Bulle Fruit had betrayed them solely for the benefit of his sister, Blanche. Calla Lily allowed them to defeat her, and as she was departing, Blanche offered her a copy of the "Pure Water" formula that Bulle Fruit recreated, which she graciously accepted. Not wanting his sister to become a Treasure Hoarder like him, Bulle Fruit willingly went to the Fortress of Meropide. He is considering selling the potion at the Fortress for Mora.Related Entries:Central Laboratory RuinsCentral LaboratoryLocated in the heart of Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering, the Central laboratory had the most advanced instruments in Fontaine. Previously, the primary research undertaken there was related to the "Experimental Field Generator." While conducting research, the Arkhium core within the field generator overloaded, triggering a colossal explosion that laid waste to the institute, in which the Central Laboratory was destroyed. With the help of this "allogravity-condensed water," the ruins of the Institute ascended safely and efficiently. A mysterious green-yellow crystalline ore that is mutually attracted to others like it can be found under breakable rubble in the Allogravity-Condensed Water Body below the Central Laboratory Ruins.Since the initial explosion, all of the institute's Arkhium fragmented, posing a perpetual risk of spontaneous excitation and subsequent explosion. A secondary explosion, minor in comparison to the first, occurred at the ruins of the Central Laboratory, which dispersed numerous condensing components of the Arkhium inhibitor into the surrounding waters. This secondary explosion was the result of energy flow affecting a small portion of Arkhium in the ruins. A suppression device was implemented, and the crisis was averted, however, a senior researcher named Mr. Nacker escaped. Nacker worked with Mr. Eastinghouse, and is believed to have triggered the small explosion in order to steal the Arkhium Kinetic Core to make a "small fortune."The Institute used to be connected with the Court of Fontaine through the Callas aquabus line. The Aquabus system is a system designed in cooperation with Callas, the former president of the Spina di Rosula, and both the Court of Fontaine and Fontaine Research Institute. The three aquabus lines are all named after people in Navia's family – Navia, her father Callas, and her mother Clementine. These three lines serve to connect the Court of Fontaine with the Fontaine Research Institute, Romaritime Harbor, and Erinnyes. During Edwin Eastinghouse's Arkhium research, the Callas Line was destroyed in the aforementioned explosion and has yet to be repaired. The Aquabus Station contains a Special Notice that states: "Due to force majeure, operations on the Callas Line are suspended indefinitely. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." The Spina is planning to reconstruct the Callas Line and add more stops for the existing aquabus lines. The Café Lutece Message Board features a discussion about the Callas Lines reconstruction proposal. Prior to its closure, the Melusine Talochard worked as a tour guide for the Callas line, which used to be the third line. An Arithmetic Enhancer Mek, the Automated Supercomputing Field Generator can be found in this location east of the Ruins of the Central Laboratory. It was created by the Fontaine Research Institute and was engineered to transmit and amplify signals. This machine was created to complement the energy defects and increase the operational efficiency of clockwork meka, allowing it to replenish the power of nearby disabled clockwork meka that shares a similar energy source. Its operational power derives from a controlled annihilation reaction between Ousia and Pneuma within its kinetic core. Overloading it with excessive energy can disrupt its delicate equilibrium. The Arithmetic Enhancer Mek operates on Ousia power and is equipped with a Gravity Reduction Field when Arkhe is active. Striking it with opposing Arkhe while its shield is down causes it to lose Arkhe and be temporarily stunned. This Mek can regain Arkhe more rapidly than other Clockwork Meka after being stunned, and it defends itself with a Geo shield.Related Entries:Scattered ReferencesA large Meka can be found to the east of the central laboratory ruins in the middle of a Hilichurl camp. The aftershocks of the explosion at the Fontaine Research Institute could not completely destroy it, and it continues to exist in a form contrary to its original design. Throughout the Hilichurl camp, there are notes that detail how a project team developed the "Comprehensive Combat Formula" (CCF) by combining ancient fleet combat logic and adventurer combat data. The CCF set targets for the meka, such as acting as a vanguard, detecting and defeating monsters, engaging powerful enemies, overcoming obstacles, and destroying enemy strongholds. Nine prototypes were planned in three phases: Full System Prototype, Initial Operational Viability, and Full Operational Viability, with mass production to follow based on prototype data. Throughout this location, three gears, two Spur Gear C's and one Spur Gear T, can be found. Placing the gears onto the meka will reveal a hidden property of the machine where unlit fireworks spawn at the top, which can then be lit to display a brief fireworks show. A mysterious green-yellow crystalline ore needed to create the Arkhium Lumenite can be found on top of the large Mek.Related Entries:Marechausee Hunter VaultEast of the Central Laboratory Ruins lies a hidden vault containing treasure protected by a puzzle and a large door. Within this secret vault, it is rumored that the Marechaussee Hunters of the past left behind a treasure capable of defeating any sorcerer. To enter the cave where this vault is hidden, one must crack open a bit of rock, revealing a stretch of open water. After completing that puzzle mechanism connected to the vault door, you must prove yourself worthy of inheriting the secrets of the past. The reward for solving the puzzle is one of the Marechaussee Hunter keys, passed down through generations. Four keys in total are needed to form the final, complete key. Once the door is opened the treasure will be revealed: a stone tablet surrounded by weapons. The silent tablet bears the names of the ancient Marechaussee Hunters and their heroic deeds inscribed upon it. The weapons surrounding the tablet, at first glance, appear absolutely ordinary, but a faint energy emanates from within. Though it's been a long time since they were used in battle, their edges remain sharp, as if they're simply waiting for the next worthy Hunter to carry on their legacy. The Marechaussee Hunters of ages past would often imbue their weapons with special enchantments to suppress monsters. Whenever a monster was nearby, their weapons would start to glow. If one recites the names of a Marechaussee Hunter while holding one of these weapons, the Marechaussee Hunter will be summoned forth. The will of that past Hunter will course through the wielder's being. It is a feeling of courage and determination – a silent vow passed down from generation to generation that says, "eradicate the monsters no matter the cost." The contents of this room are the treasure spoken of, representing the true legacy left behind by the Hunters. The Traveler, Paimon, Furina, Lyney, Navia, and Clorinde were brought to this cave by a role-playing game organized by the Tabletop Troupe. According to the game's plot, all of the heroes were Marechaussee Hunters who had to find the Hunters' treasure to defeat a powerful sorcerer. When they were near one of the locked doors outside the vault, the game master Clorinde realized that their adventure had gone beyond the game, as the real Marechaussee Hunters' vault was revealed before them. The piece of key they received after solving the puzzle was exactly the same as the key Clorinde's mentor had left. It turned out that they had been lured to this cave by another club member and the heir of the Marechaussee Hunters, Florian. His father was a Hunter and devoted his entire life to serving the cause, but in return, he received only poverty and suffering. Members of his family had been Marechaussee Hunters for generations, passing down not only the title and swordsmanship but also a seal the Marechaussee Hunters used to restrain the Devorator, hoping that in time a way would be found to defeat it. Florian's father instructed him to always watch over that seal and maintain it regularly since it was the most important duty of his clan. However, after his death, his son abandoned this duty. This seal was suppressing the Devorator — a dangerous opponent who was able to amplify the obsessions and desires in people's hearts, to the point where they overtook them entirely. When Florian finally decided to check the seal, the monster took over his consciousness. The anger over injustice in Florian's soul made him easy prey.Florian lured Clorinde, Lyney, Furina, Navia, the Traveler, and Paimon into the secret treasury in order to destroy the Hunters and take the treasures that he believed were rightfully his. To open the vault, he lacked only one key out of four: one was given to him by his father, he stole the other, and took the third key from a Hunter. During the battle with Florian, Clorinde temporarily expelled the monster from his body. To fight the Devorator, Clorinde's friends decided to take the Hunters' weapons: Furina had Este's sword, and Lyney had Walter's bow. Navia used Clorinde's mentor's sword. To defeat the monster, Florian lured it into his body, and Clorinde, Navia, Furina, Lyney, the Traveler, and Paimon defeated it with the help of the Hunters' spirits. In the Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering Region world quests,,,,,,,, and can be found.
Lore
ExplosionThe Fontaine Research Institute is the Hydro Nation's crown jewel of scientific advancement. It stands as a testament to the relentless pursuit of knowledge and interplay between technology and energy power in Fontaine. When a flood was prophesied to destroy Fontaine, institute researchers shifted their efforts to safeguard the entire nation. With its vast energy potential and ability to break earthly constraints, a mysterious yellow-green ore named Arkhium was once considered the key to the gate of salvation. The Arkhium Kinetic Core is the fruit of Raimondo's joint research with Edwin Eastinghouse. They believed if they constantly injected the kinetic core with enough energy, it would easily allow the Experimental Field Generator, designed by Edwin Eastinghouse, to run at full power. After creating the core, they both realized they could barely find a way to keep injecting it with enough energy to keep it at maximum power. Coming across the giant Arkhium, and although it was always in an inert state, they were certain that this ore had unprecedented purity. Edwin and Raimondo had a disagreement due to Raimondo offering a more conservative proposal, when Edwin wanted to solve the problem quickly. The Arkhium core within the field generator overloaded and triggered a colossal explosion that laid waste to the institute. This event propelled substantial blocks of Allogravity-Condensed Water Bodies and fragments of the institute into the atmosphere. After the explosion, Raimondo promptly led the disaster investigation and evaluation efforts. Edwin disappeared after the explosion and many believed him to be dead. However, he was dismissed from his post of Senior Technician with further investigation pending due to being absent from work for a long period without having submitted any application. As a result of the disaster, the institute was forced to recollect and build a new location near the old ruins while maintaining what was not destroyed in the explosion. The Institute currently in working order is referred to as the "New Fontaine Research Institute." This large explosion caused the institute's Arkhium to fragment and eventually, a secondary explosion occurred at the ruins of the Central Laboratory. While visiting the New Fontaine Research Institute, the Traveler and Paimon met with co-administrators Raimondo and Choiseul, who assigned them to escort Nacker as he retrieved two Survey Anchors to monitor energy flow strength. The minor secondary explosion was the result of energy flow affecting a small portion of Arkhium in the ruins. The force of the explosion was enough to cause the condensing components of the Arkhium inhibitor to be dispersed into the surrounding waters which required a suppression device to avert further crisis. Nacker, a senior researcher who had previously worked with Eastinghouse, had triggered the small explosion in order to steal the Arkhium Kinetic Core. Nacker was able to escape the explosion amidst the chaos. Later, a special investigator named Fusilier was hired to take charge of the stolen Arkhium Kinetic Core case. The investigation led Fusilier to a residence that emitted residual energy readings all around. Fusilier broke the house lock when none other than the missing Edwin Eastinghouse was found inside. Edwin surreptitiously pointed out Nacker's current whereabouts to be around the Fort Charybdis Ruins. Nacker revealed he was working on a "Field Generator" and was attempting to synchronize it with the Arkhium Kinetic Core in hopes of being the greatest kinetic engineer ever. It came to light that Edwin Eastinghouse led the investigation against Nacker on purpose, and he encouraged Nacker to go back to the institute and repent. Edwin wanted to get back to his research and claimed he wasn't present when the core exploded. After Nacker and Edwin exchanged a few words, Fusilier stated both of them harmed the interests of the institute and as the special investigator of the Fontaine Research Institute, she demanded both be taken to the institute to be dealt with accordingly. Upon arrival at the institute, after enough time had passed for Edwin and Raimondo to exchange words, the Maison Gardiennage's personnel arrived and took both Nacker and Edwin to the Fortress of Meropide.Related Entries:Butterfly DewOne day, there was a presentation of a new cosmetic product "Butterfly Dew" in the Court of Fontaine. This face cream was created by an extraordinarily handsome researcher from the Fontaine Research Institute, Rawat, and promised to significantly improve skin quality. It got its name from the glow it gives to the skin: like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis and spreading its wings for the first time. "Butterfly Dew" was created because a person's appearance can be a shackle that hinders a person in life. It can deprive a young person of confidence when applying for a job, or dissuade a young lady from approaching the one she loves. As a result, people become the way the outside world sees them. To get rid of these shackles, Rawat decided to create a product that could transform the appearance, erase birthmarks and wrinkles, and give the skin radiance and shine. Rawat tested the product on himself, and his beautiful appearance convinced buyers of its effectiveness. The presentation was also attended by Sigewinne, a writer for "Beautes en fleurs" magazine, known under the pen name "Romaritime Flower." She was one of the leading faces of the Fontaine Beauty Association, so her praise of the product caused a great stir, and within minutes Butterfly Dew was sold out. Thanks to their fame, the Traveler and Paimon, who were interested in the event, received two free samples of the cream. Sigewinne believed that the product could be improved and promised to make it more effective. On the same day, Rawat testified to the Marechaussee Phantom against a group of criminals using his research and disappearing without a trace.Because of Rawat's statement, the Marechaussee Phantom arrested all the criminals and placed them in the Fortress of Meropide for interrogation, but on the same day, strange things began to happen in the Fortress. One of the prisoners saw his doppelganger, another had his face melted, and several more people, including a guard, said that they woke up in someone else's body. All the prisoners they mentioned in their testimony were due to be released on that day. Realizing that a crime was unfolding before Duke Wriothesley and the officers of the Marechaussee Phantom, they ordered the release of prisoners to be stopped, but some had already managed to be freed. Sigewinne assumed that a special potion was used to change their appearance, and went along with the officers, the Traveler, and Paimon to investigate. After collecting all the clues, they discovered the connection between Rawat and the criminals and suspected he could be their next victim. They believed the group may have coerced the researcher into producing pharmaceutical products. While searching for Rawat, a secret laboratory was discovered where the criminals were hiding. The pharmaceutical was made using a special solution that they could no longer find, and without the solution, their faces would rot. Potton, a criminal with a melted face, locked the officers in a room and released poisonous gas, but Sigewinne offered him a deal. She realized that the key component of the face-changing potion was the fluid left behind by Fontainians dissolved by the water of the Primordial Sea. After Neuvillette turned all the Fontainians into ordinary humans, they stopped dissolving, and the fluid quickly ran out. Sigewinne had the potion formula and one bottle, which she promised to give to Potton if he opened the door. She pretended that she was about to pass out from the gas, and the only bottle of potion that could save Potton's face would break, and he opened the gate. After Sigewinne gave him the potion, he managed to escape. When the Marechaussee Phantom officers searched for information about Rawat, they discovered his sick mother. Hoping that the researcher would return to her, they left several agents to guard the house. The officers' attention was drawn to Potton attempting to enter the house. He again changed his appearance with Sigewinne's potion to an appearance that matched the photograph in the arrest warrant. It turned out that Rawat was Potton. Before becoming Rawat, he was ugly, women did not want to meet him, and other researchers of the Institute did not want to work with him. Only criminals were willing to support his research, and so Potton began to become involved in Sinthe production. When he wanted out of the case, his accomplices gave his photograph to the Marechaussee Phantom officers so that Potton could not escape. Then he created a potion that changed his appearance and became Rawat. He first spent all the money on treating his mother, but no medicine could cure her, and she did not even recognize her son with a new appearance. Researchers from the Institute were Interested in working with Rawat, but he wouldn't allow them to use his patent. The woman, who rejected him earlier, told him about her feelings. Rawat decided not to give up the profitable business and continued making Butterfly Dew. The liquid from the dissolved Fontainians was supplied to him by Vacher, who was behind the serial disappearances of women and Sinthe business. Rawat changed his appearance to his real one so that his mother could bid him farewell before her death, but the officers then arrested him due to a warrant. Thanks to Sigewienne, the officers allowed Potton to say goodbye to his dying mother. He deliberately returned to his previous appearance so that she could recognize him, but she lost her sight from the high temperature. She did not recognize him even when her son took her hand, but she recognized Sigewinne's touch, as the Melusine had previously tried to help her. After Potton's arrest, the officers seized all copies of Butterfly Dew sold, even though the remedy was safe. Sigewinne discovered a way to neutralize the substance from dissolved Fontainians, allowing it to evaporate naturally. The Melusine guessed that this particular fluid was the key component of the potion because she had already used it many years ago. This is how she acquired a human-like appearance. Her teacher was the first to discover such a side effect while studying the water of the Primordial Sea and its effect on Fontainians. She tried to find a cure by experimenting on herself but never found one. When Sigewinne was not allowed to cure a girl because Sigewinne was not human, the teacher decided to make the Melusine a face-changing potion. She created the potion by dissolving herself and left it as a parting gift.As Sigewinne had promised, she made one bottle of Butterfly Dew more effective by adding a few other ingredients. Paimon was afraid to use the potion, and for Sigewinne it no longer mattered whether she was a Melusine or a human, so they decided to destroy the last face-changing potion.
