The formula used here

From pull 1-73 (character) or 1-62 (weapon), the 5★ rate is a flat 0.6%/0.7% per pull. Past that threshold (Soft Pity), the rate climbs pull by pull until it's 100% guaranteed at pull 90 (character) / 80 (weapon) — Hard Pity. Same math as the /genshin/pity page, cross-checked against community pity calculators.

Wish Mechanics Guide

Reference for Version Luna VIII (July 21 - August 11, 2026). Core pity mechanics are permanent; the current banners will change after this version ends.

Official consolidated 5-star rate (average including pity): 1.6% for characters, 1.85% for weapons. A separate community estimate exists (from 9.45M sampled wishes: 1.6052% / 1.8779%) - shown here only where explicitly labeled "community estimate", never mixed with official numbers.
Capturing Radiance

Only applies on Character Event Wish, only when the 50/50 is in play (not already guaranteed). Base trigger chance is 0.018%. If it triggers, you get the promotional 5-star character, raising the consolidated chance of the promotional character to 55%. If the promotional 5-star was only the SECOND 5-star obtained on 3 consecutive occasions, Capturing Radiance is guaranteed on the next 5-star pull. It does not change or replace the 50/50 guarantee itself.

Lightrace Wish (new banner, Version Luna VIII)

A new limited wish type added in Luna VIII, with the same rates as Chronicled Wish. Choose a Lightrace Path (a 5-star to target) - 50.000% chance any 5-star obtained is that target, guaranteed 4-star or higher every 10 wishes, hard pity secures a 5-star within 90 wishes. Important: the guarantee ("pity") counter is SHARED between Lightrace Wish and Chronicled Wish - pulling on one carries the counter into the other. Fate Points earned toward your chosen item do NOT carry over and reset when the banner ends.

Chronicled Wish

Requires Intertwined Fates. Choose a Chronicled Path (a 5-star target from a rotating list of past event-exclusive characters). Same rate structure as above: 50.000% chance the 5-star is your target, guaranteed 4-star+ every 10 wishes, hard pity at 90. The guarantee counter carries to the next Chronicled Wish and is shared with Lightrace Wish; Fate Points toward your specific target reset each time a new Chronicled Wish begins.

Masterless Items (compensation for duplicates)

When a wish result would be "wasted" (duplicate character, or any weapon), the game compensates with these items instead:

Wish result Stella Fortuna Masterless Stella Fortuna Masterless Starglitter Masterless Stardust

Duplicate 5-star character110
Duplicate 5-star character (Constellation already maxed)125
Duplicate 4-star character12
Duplicate 4-star character (Constellation already maxed)5

4-star weapon2
3-star weapon15
Good to know

A 1.6% consolidated 5-star rate works out to roughly one 5-star character every 62.5 wishes, or about 10,000 Primogems. Because the 50/50 (or 75/25) guarantee only applies to the promotional item, the long-run share of 5-star pulls that are actually the featured item is about 66.6% (two out of three) rather than 50%.

These are figures derived from the pity mechanics above, not a fixed guarantee for any single pull — actual luck still varies per player.

Frequently Asked Questions

⚠ The terms "pity", "soft pity" and "banner" used in this FAQ are community shorthand, not official HoYoverse terminology. These answers are derived from long-term player testing, not an official rulebook.

Do Standard, Character, and Weapon Event Wishes each have separate pity?

Yes. Each Wish type tracks its own pity counter. Character Event Wish-2 (when it runs) shares its counter with the main Character Event Wish.

Does pity carry over to a new banner within the same Wish type?

Yes, for Character Event Wish and Weapon Event Wish - your pity count keeps going across consecutive banners of the same type.

Do Epitomized Path Fate Points carry over to a new Weapon Event Wish banner?

No - Fate Points reset to 0 whenever a new Weapon Event Wish banner begins.

If I get a 5-star before wish 80 or 90, does that guarantee another 5-star exactly at wish 80/90?

No. The pity counter resets to 0 the moment any 5-star is obtained, regardless of when it happened.

Is the 50/50 (or 75/25 for weapons) shared between Character and Weapon Event Wishes?

No. Pity and guarantees are tracked completely separately for each Wish type.

If I lose the 50/50 (or 75/25), is my next 5-star guaranteed to be the featured item?

Yes - losing once guarantees the featured item on your very next 5-star pull of that Wish type.

If I win the 50/50, is my next 5-star also guaranteed to be featured?

No - winning resets you to another independent 50/50 (or 75/25) for the next 5-star.

When does soft pity actually start?

Around wish 74 for Character/Standard Wishes, and around wish 63 for Weapon Wishes - rates then climb wish by wish until the hard pity cap.

Does getting a 5-star also satisfy the 4-star guarantee?

Yes - obtaining a 5-star (or 4-star) satisfies that Wish's 4-star-or-higher guarantee; the independent 4-star pity counter is not reset by it and carries into the next Wish.
