ZZZ Best Team Comps 2.8 — Team Building Guide | Zenless Zone Zero

Updated: 03/07/2026
30-second summary

A standard ZZZ team is just 3 agents: 1 main DPS + 1 Stun + 1 Support. The Stun agent fills the enemy's Daze bar to stun them, opening a Chain Attack window where your DPS deals bonus damage, while the Support buffs and heals. Pair two agents of the same Faction or the same Attribute to trigger their Additional Abilities — that is the real "faction bonus" everyone talks about.

The Core Formula: DPS + Stun + Support

Almost every strong ZZZ team follows one single template: 1 main DPS to deal damage, 1 Stun agent to fill the enemy's Daze bar, and 1 Support for buffs and healing. Three slots, that's it.

How it works: the Stun agent builds up Daze until the enemy is stunned → the stunned enemy can't act and takes far more damage → you trigger a Chain Attack to swap to your DPS and unload your full combo in this "golden window", slotting the Support in to stack buffs. Get this order right and you've mastered 80% of team building.

The 6 Agent Roles and What Each Does

Every Agent has a fixed role (shown next to their name). Knowing these 6 tells you who does what:

AttackMain DPS, the highest direct damage in the team.
StunFills the Daze bar fast to stun enemies and open Chain Attacks.
AnomalyStacks elemental status effects for Anomaly and Disorder damage.
SupportBuffs, debuffs, heals and sustains the whole team.
DefenseTanks hits, builds shields and counters instead of always dodging.
RuptureA newer DPS branch that runs its own damage mechanic.

A proper team needs all three jobs covered: damage (Attack / Anomaly / Rupture), the window (Stun) and support (Support / Defense).

How Faction Bonus & Additional Ability Actually Work

Many players imagine a separate "faction buff", but in reality the faction bonus comes from each agent's Additional Ability — it is not an automatic stat aura.

The activation condition is easy: the agent must share the team with at least one ally of the SAME FACTION, OR the SAME ATTRIBUTE. You only need to meet one of the two. For example, an Electric agent lights up her passive with another Electric ally, or with an ally from her own faction.

There are exceptions: a few agents (such as Qingyi, Zhu Yuan and Jane) instead activate their passive with an ally of a specific ROLE rather than a matching faction/attribute — Qingyi wants at least one Attack agent, Zhu Yuan wants a Support. So always read each agent's Additional Ability description to know the exact condition.

On the squad-select screen, watch the yellow smile icon reading 3/3 in the corner — that is how many Additional Abilities are currently active. Building to a full 3/3 means your team is running at full power.

Two Team Types: Stun (Burst) vs Anomaly (Damage-over-time)

Stun team: packs all damage into the stun window. The rhythm is build Daze → stun → Chain Attack → unload your DPS combo. Excellent against a single big target (boss).

Anomaly team: ignores stun and instead keeps stacking elemental status for Anomaly damage. When a second elemental effect hits an enemy already afflicted by a different one, it triggers Disorder — a bonus burst of damage. Great for multiple targets and "apply-and-swap" play.

Which one you pick depends on your DPS: an Attack DPS usually wants a Stun team, while an Anomaly DPS (like Ice/Frost carries) wants an Anomaly team.

3 Ready-Made Teams to Copy (Patch 2.8)

Enough theory — here are 3 currently strong teams to copy. The meta shifts between patches, but the 3-role skeleton never changes:

Stun team (burst)Zhu Yuan (Attack DPS) + Qingyi (Stun) + Nicole (Support). Qingyi locks the enemy down and boosts the Stun multiplier, Nicole shreds DEF — Zhu Yuan unloads inside the stun window.
Anomaly teamMiyabi (Anomaly DPS, Frost) + Yanagi (Anomaly, Electric) + Astra Yao (Support). Two different elemental effects constantly trigger Disorder. F2P players can swap Astra for Grace.
100% free teamBilly (Attack DPS) + Anby (Stun) + Nicole (Support). All three are Cunning Hares and all free — more than enough for regular content.

Note: each team above already meets an Additional Ability condition (shared faction or the right role), so they light up a full 3/3.

Don't Forget Bangboo — Your '4th Member'

Beyond your 3 Agents, every team also brings 1 Bangboo — the little robot that jumps in during Chain Attacks. This is the "4th slot" many beginners overlook.

The picking rule is the same as for agents: match the faction, attribute or role of your team to unlock the Bangboo's strongest effect. For example, Sharkboo is at its best with two or more Ice agents on the team; other Bangboo heal, shred DEF, or add bonus damage during your combo. If no S-rank Bangboo matches your team, an A-rank one with the right faction/attribute beats a mismatched S-rank.

Building a Team as a Beginner / F2P: 4 Steps

You don't need S-rank agents. Just follow 4 steps:

  • Step 1 — Pick the DPS you like or already own; note whether it's Attack or Anomaly.
  • Step 2 — Add one Stun agent to create the stun window.
  • Step 3 — Add one Support, ideally the same faction or same attribute as your DPS to switch on extra Additional Abilities.
  • Step 4 — On the squad screen, check the 3/3 icon. If it's not full, swap one agent to match faction/attribute.

A-rank and B-rank (free) agents are perfectly fine for regular content — don't worry about lacking S-ranks.

Pick Your DPSPick a DPS you like; check Attack or Anomaly
  2. 2
Add a StunAdd one Stun agent to open the window
  3. 3
Add a SupportPrefer same faction or attribute as your DPS
  4. 4
Check the 3/3If not full, swap an agent to match

4 Common Team-Building Mistakes

  • Cramming 3 DPS with no Stun: without a stunner the enemy never stays down, and your DPS loses half its damage.
  • Dropping the Support: no buffs or healing means a fragile team that dies in hard content.
  • Mixing agents with no shared faction/attribute: Additional Abilities don't activate, the icon sits below 3/3, and you throw away free buffs.
  • Forgetting to swap agents: skipping Chain Attacks and Quick Assists wastes your biggest damage window.

FAQ

Do I really need two agents from the same faction?

No. An Additional Ability activates with an ally of the <b>same faction OR the same attribute</b> — you only need one condition. So matching by attribute lights up the buff just as well; same faction isn't mandatory.

Can a team run without a Support, or with only 2 agents?

You can, but it's usually weaker. Some strong DPS can both deal damage and build Daze, so a 2-agent team can work. Beginners should stick to all three roles (DPS + Stun + Support) to stay safe.

What's the difference between Stun and Anomaly, and which should I pick?

Stun = burst damage inside the stun window, strong against single-target bosses. Anomaly = stacking elemental effects for continuous damage and Disorder, strong against multiple targets. Pick based on your DPS: an Attack DPS goes Stun, an Anomaly DPS goes Anomaly.
