Character Progression in Chaos Zero Nightmare: Level, Potential, Manifest Ego & Gear
Every system that makes a Combatant stronger in CZN: Level and Promotion every 10 levels, the 7-node Potential skill tree fed by Attribute-based Growth Stones, 6-stage Manifest Ego from duplicates, plus Partners, Memory Fragments, Save Data and Prism Modules.
Character Progression in Chaos Zero Nightmare covers every system that makes a Combatant stronger: Level and Promotion, the Potential skill tree, Manifest Ego, Partners, Memory Fragments, Save Data and Prism Modules.
Level and Promotion
Every Combatant has a Level that sets their base ATK, DEF and HP, raised by spending Battle Memories and Units (both farmed via Tactical Training stages using Aether). A Combatant hits a level cap every 10 levels and needs a Promotion — the material required depends on the Combatant's Class. Your account is gated the same way: every 10 account levels (10, 20, 30…) you must clear a Promotion Stage before earning more account EXP.
Potential (skill tree)
Potential unlocks along a linear tree from node 1 to 7, branching at 3-1 and 5-1:
| Node | What it does |
|---|---|
| Potential 1 | Randomly grants one of the combatant's Rare Unique cards when entering Chaos through Epiphany. |
| Potential 2 | Buffs Basic Card multipliers. |
| Potential 3 | Buffs Neutral Card multipliers. |
| Potential 3-1 (branch) | Improves a specific card with added mechanics or higher multipliers. |
| Potential 4 | Buffs Unique Card multipliers. |
| Potential 5 | Flat stat boost. |
| Potential 5-1 (branch) | Raises card multipliers further once the combatant crosses a stat threshold. |
| Potential 6 | Flat stat boost. |
| Potential 7 | Boosts a specific multiplier or adds a new mechanic once a stat threshold is met. |
Unlocking a node costs Growth Stones, Units and sometimes boss drops. Which Growth Stone type you need depends on the combatant's Attribute (Passion, Instinct, Order, Justice, Void); harder Tactical Training stages drop higher-rarity stones, and you can pull up to 3 boss drops a week from the Challenge tab. Units let you merge low-rarity stones up or dismantle high-rarity ones down, though farming the right rarity directly is more efficient.
Manifest Ego
Pulling a duplicate copy of a Combatant lets you Manifest Ego. Every Combatant has 6 Manifest Ego upgrades, ranging from plain stat increases to mechanical changes that alter how the character plays. Duplicates come from Rescue pulls or from buying dupes directly with Moments of the Radiant Hero in the Memory Archive shop.
Partners, Memory Fragments, Save Data & Prism Modules
Partners are equipment (the equivalent of a weapon) that add stats, a class-locked passive, and an Ego Skill — see the Partner guide for detail. Memory Fragments are the gear/artifact-equivalent, giving stat bonuses and farmed via Memory Fragment Tactical Training — see the Memory Fragments guide. Save Data is generated by running a Combatant through a Chaos run; it's an equippable build that carries the deck changes and Equipment earned in that run into future stages. Prism Modules are a purely cosmetic upgrade — each Combatant has 5 cards that can be Restored with their own Prism Module type, obtained by spending Prism Lenses on the Prism Module banner (you pick the 5★ to unlock; 4★ drops are random and can't be chosen).
FAQ
| Question | Answer |

| Can I choose which Prism Module I unlock? | Only the 5★ pull on the Prism Module banner is selectable; 4★ Prism Modules drop randomly. |
| What's the fastest way to raise account level for more Promotions? | Clear the Promotion Stage that gates every 10 account levels — you can't gain further account EXP until it's cleared. |
