New Eridu Overview Type: City

New Eridu (also shortened to "Ridu" in various in-game systems and text) is the main setting of Zenless Zone Zero, the last surviving city after contemporary civilization was destroyed by the Hollows. New Eridu managed to survive and thrive after the apocalypse by acquiring technology to extract resources from the Hollows themselves; the Hollows are industrialized and monetized by the New Eridu City Administration, gradually leading to increasing tension between monopolistic enterprises, gangs, conspirators, and fanatics. The city features extensive infrastructure (roads, trains) and a blend of retro and futuristic technology (advanced computers running on CRT displays, VHS tapes and record players still common). Its main City Quarters are: Janus Quarter (a premiere shopping district, main setting of the Prologue and Season 1), Throne Quarter (home to H.A.N.D. Headquarters and Waifei Peninsula, main setting of Season 2), Pluto Quarter and Minerva Quarter (prosperous during the Eridu era, until parts were swallowed by Hollow Zero during the Fall of the Old City; Helios Academy — Wise and Belle's old school — is located in Minerva Quarter), Faunus Quarter (currently expanding, creating new jobs) and Vulcan Quarter (industrial areas and factories). Beyond the city lies the Outer Ring — a lawless region outside the city's purview, home to biker gangs and outlaws, which relies on oil instead of Ether and has hundreds of Hollows scattered around it.

Sixth Street Type: Area (Janus Quarter)

Sixth Street is an Area within Janus Quarter, New Eridu — home to the main characters Belle and Wise. Although modest in size, it has consistently ranked among the "Most Livable Neighborhoods in New Eridu" for several consecutive years thanks to its reputable shops. Along with Lumina Square, Ballet Twins Road, and the Brant Street Construction Site, Sixth Street is one of the major locations currently available in the game. Activities here include the Arcade, Newsstand, Officer Mewmew, Sage in a Barrel, and 404 Television Studio; shops include a Coffee Shop, Convenience Store, Gadget Store, Music Store, and Remodeling Shop; there is also a 404 Livehouse entrance and a Decibel Bar. Per the community wiki, Sixth Street has 101 NPCs and 17 interactable objects. Since Version 2.6, the area gained new open-world decorations, NPC idle quotes and dialogues, special Chinese New Year background music, and fireworks visible at Late Night (12AM).

Lumina Square Type: Area (Janus Quarter)

Lumina Square is a busy shopping district within Janus Quarter, New Eridu — wealthy, safe, mostly free of crime, and located far from any Hollows. Both the Hollow Investigative Association (HIA) and New Eridu Public Security maintain major locations here, alongside many chic, upscale stores such as 141 Convenience Store, Beaverson Beauty Salon, Buyan Antique Store, Coff Cafe, Dew Gardening Shop, Gravity Cinema, HIA Club, JC Pharmacy, Lumina Galleria, Newsstand, Old Duyi's Physiotherapy Studio, Richard Teamilk, Sān-Z STUDIO, Simmer Hot Pot Restaurant, Waterfall Soup, Capsule Hotel, and High Ambitions Financial Services. The area unlocks via the mission "Unthinkable (A)", granted after reaching Inter-Knot Level 30 and completing the Rank-Up Commission "Path of the Proxy II (HDD)". Per the community wiki, there are 77 NPCs here, along with a list of Agents who can have a Trust Event in Lumina Square (e.g. Alexandrina Sebastiane, Asaba Harumasa, Astra Yao, Burnice White, Caesar King, Corin Wickes, Ellen Joe, Evelyn Chevalier, Hoshimi Miyabi, Hugo Vlad, Jane Doe, Lighter, Luciana de Montefio, Pan Yinhu, Piper Wheel, Qingyi, Seth Lowell, Trigger, Vivian Banshee, Von Lycaon, Zhu Yuan). Since Versions 1.5 and 2.6, the area gained new open-world decorations, NPC idle quotes/dialogues, and special Chinese New Year background music.

Scott Outpost Type: Area (Janus Quarter)

Scott Outpost is a military base camp located on the outskirts of Hollow Zero, established to monitor and contain the anomaly and to maintain the Shiyu towers. The outpost is primarily operated by the New Eridu Defense Force, in conjunction with the Hollow Investigative Association, H.A.N.D., and the White Star Institute. Soldiers and Investigators are stationed there to suppress Hollow Zero and exterminate dangerous Ethereals; due to a shortage of operatives, Independent Investigators are also specially hired to assist. Activities tied to this area include Deadly Assault, Hollow Zero, Notorious Hunt, Routine Cleanup, and Shiyu Defense; it has a Logistics Shop and an Outpost Area/Outpost Interior. Per the community wiki, there are 22 NPCs in Scott Outpost and 1 interactable object (a Telescope).

Ballet Twins Type: Mentioned Area

The Ballet Twins are a set of two towers facing the Ballet Twins Road, currently engulfed by the Ballet Twins Hollow — the towers themselves are a "Mentioned Area" in the lore, distinct from the explorable Ballet Twins Road. They were constructed before the fall of the Old Capital by the "Ballet Group," consisting of the two Bolt brothers, as part of their wish to build the tallest building in all of Eridu. After construction, the Ballet Twins became one of the most popular business hubs while also being a testament to the Ballet Group's wealth, becoming a hotspot for art exhibits (famous paintings such as "Gentleman With a Bangboo" and "Ballet Brothers on Ethereal's Back" by Kinston Bird, alongside Bangboo sculptures such as "The Bangboo Weirdo" by WeirdBoo) and a large stage that regularly hosted ballets performed by Rhodes's granddaughters, the Nette sisters Augilia and Augetta. After the fall of the Old Capital, the Ballet Group suffered severe financial losses and went bankrupt, and the Ballet Twins became engulfed by a Companion Hollow of one of the original great Hollows, Lemnian. The Nette sisters, trapped inside the building during the Hollow's expansion, were eventually corrupted and became the Twin Marionettes. The sudden downfall of the Ballet brothers and their business empire spawned many rumours, including a legend that the brothers had made a pact with a Golden Bangboo that could control people's fortunes, which cursed them after they ignored their end of the deal. With the Twin Marionettes and other Ethereals such as Ahriman (which resembles a statue when idle) roaming the halls, the Ballet Twins also became known as one of the most famous haunted spots in New Eridu. In recent times, the Ballet Twins Hollow has shrunk, allowing parts of the towers to be visible from outside, prompting wealthy investors to attempt to purchase the buildings, though none of these deals came to fruition; one such investor hired Victoria Housekeeping Co. to investigate the towers under the guise of maintenance. Despite the apparent danger, many individuals still attempt expeditions into the Ballet Twins, allured by the riches still hidden within.
